Kohima, Jul 16 (PTI) Reigning Miss Universe Nagaland 2025, Kelülü Dawhuo, is all set to represent the state at the national finals of Miss Universe India 2025, to be held at the National Stadium in Indore in Madhya Pradesh.
She emphasised her commitment to showcasing the strength, diversity, and cultural richness of Nagaland on the national platform.
A BA second-year student, Kelülü acknowledged the challenge of balancing academics with pageantry. However, with family support and guidance from mentors, she said she is confident in managing both responsibilities effectively.
Following in the footsteps of Ruofuozhano Whiso, who brought home the fourth runner-up crown last year, Kelülü admitted the pressure but remained determined.
'I am not here to outshine anyone but to shine in my own light and bring laurels to our state,' she said.
She encouraged women to follow their dreams and announced her continued advocacy for girl child education, which she plans to pursue more actively post-competition. PTI NBS NBS ACD

‘Don' director Chandra Barot dies at 86; film fraternity mourns his demise
Last Updated: Mumbai, Jul 20 (PTI) Veteran filmmaker Chandra Barot, best known for directing the 1978 Amitabh Bachchan-starrer 'Don", passed away on Sunday due to cardiac arrest at a hospital in Mumbai, his family said. He was 86. Barot was battling 'Idiopathic Pulmonary Fibrosis' (IPF-fibrosis of lungs) for the last 11 years and had been receiving treatment at the Guru Nanak Hospital, as per his family. 'Chandra passed away at the Guru Nanak Hospital this morning at 6.30 due to cardiac arrest caused by a chest infection. He had IPF, which is fibrosis of the lungs, for the past 11 years," his wife Deepa Barot told PTI. Before making his directorial debut with 'Don", the filmmaker served as an assistant director to actor-director Manoj Kumar in 'Purab Aur Pachhim", 'Roti Kapada Aur Makaan", 'Yaadgaar", and 'Shor". After 'Don", Chandra Barot directed a Bengali film – 'Aashrita" (1989). Released in May 1978, 'Don", featuring megastar Amitabh Bachchan in a double role — that of a mafioso and a simpleton — went on to become a blockbuster with its racy music, iconic dialogues and pulsating action. One of the most celebrated films of Chandra Barot's career, 'Don" had its fair share of ups and downs. On the 40th anniversary of the movie in 2018, Chandra Barot in an interview with PTI shared an interesting insight that he, along with his friends Amitabh Bachchan, Zeenat Aman and Pran – all three who featured in 'Don" — decided to make the film to pull one of their producer friends, Nariman Irani, out of debt. 'Bawa's (Irani) wife was a hairdresser and knew writer Salim Khan. We asked her to put in a word for us. When we met Salim, he didn't have a script ready but told us, 'There is one subject which no one understands'. 'We said 'we don't care, we just want 'Salim-Javed' written on the posters'. It was a ready script and we took it immediately. It didn't even have a title. Everyone in the industry called it 'Don waali script'," Chandra Barot had recalled. Sadly, Irani passed away six months before the release of 'Don", he added. The filmmaker also revealed that many big stars in the industry, including Dharmendra, Jeetendra and Dev Anand, had refused the movie, which was one of the highest-grossing Indian films of 1978. Chandra Barot is survived by his wife and a son. 'Don" was turned into a franchise by filmmaker Farhan Akhtar, son of Javed Akhtar, who had written the original script of the movie along with Salim Khan. Film industry colleagues took to social media to mourn Chandra Barot's death, remembering him as a wonderful filmmaker who made one of the most entertaining Hindi movies – 'Don". Farhan Akhtar paid tribute to the 'OG' 'Don" filmmaker on Instagram. 'Saddened to learn that the director of the OG Don is no more. RIP Chandra Barot-ji. Deepest condolences to the family," said the actor-filmmaker. Farhan Akhtar's Excel Entertainment bought the rights to the 1978 film and directed it in 2006, with superstar Shah Rukh Khan playing the titular role. He made the follow-up movie 'Don 2" in 2011. The third part of the franchise will see actor Ranveer Singh stepping into the shoes of Khan. Kerala minister condemns bid to drop rappers' songs from university syllabus

Terming the recommendation 'condemnable," the minister, in an official statement on Sunday, alleged that the move was part of the Sangh Parivar's agenda to 'saffronise" the higher education sector. He said the decision to remove the songs was reportedly made following a complaint filed by members of the university's governing body, appointed by the chancellor. Those who 'recommended the removal of the songs", he claimed, lacked an 'understanding of the international significance of rap music." In his statement, the minister also emphasised that the vice chancellor should recognise Kerala's 'cultural consciousness and its tradition of embracing diversity." Eros hits back at Aanand L Rai after the director expresses displeasure over the studio altering the film's ending with AI without consent
Filmmaker Aanand L Rai has voiced strong disapproval over Eros International's move to alter the ending of his 2013 romantic drama Raanjhanaa using artificial intelligence. The acclaimed director, who crafted the film's tragic yet emotionally resonant finale, expressed sadness at what he views as an interference with his original vision. If this goes unquestioned, what stops anyone from 'updating" any film, performance, or legacy to suit short-term profiteering?" Now the company has hit back at the film-maker. In an official statement to PTI, Eros Group CEO Pradeep Dwivedi clarified their stance, stating, 'This is a creative reimagining, not a replacement, and is consistent with global industry practices, including anniversary editions, alternate cuts, and modernised remasters. We categorically reject Mr Rai's allegations, which are not only factually incorrect but also legally unfounded. The re-release is a respectful reinterpretation and not a 'tampering' of the original. It is clearly positioned as an alternate, AI-enhanced version—akin to classic cuts or re-edits seen globally." When questioned about whether the Raanjhanaa team had been consulted prior to the revision, the studio asserted its legal authority. It emphasized that it owns the 'sole and exclusive copyright of the film,' and that the new version was developed 'with sensitivity and respect for the original creative team's contribution.' Eros also noted that they 'tried to acknowledge Aanand's concerns and responded to him respectfully,' but added that he 'has chosen to publicly distance himself from the project, despite the film being a product of collaborative effort where rights are lawfully vested with the producer. Our re-release is an homage to the film's legacy, not a deviation from it." The controversy deepened as reports surfaced about the updated AI-driven version of Raanjhanaa being sold to Tamil Nadu-based distributor Upswing Entertainment for a regional re-release in Tamil.
