Walnut Creek police warn residents of scam about missing officer

(KRON) — A scam has been circulating social media about a report of a missing police officer, causing confusion among Walnut Creek residents, according to the Walnut Creek Police Department (WCPD). The department made the announcement Thursday, referring to a scam that says 28-year-old officer Kate McArthur went missing.
WCPD said the post is a scam and is not accurate, adding that the department did not send out this alert.
'This post in its entirety is not accurate and was not created or sent out by the Walnut Creek Police Department,' WCPD wrote on social media. 'Please do not click on any links or additional information that is associated with this post, as it is a scam.'

The scam post appears to have been posted in a public Facebook group 'Walnut Creek/Concord Homes for Sale or Rent.' As of Thursday evening, the post WCPD alludes to appears to have been taken down.
WCPD did not mention if McArthur is a member of the department.
Walnut Creek police urge residents to not click on any links or give out additional information in association with that post.
'As a reminder always verify any information before sharing or engaging with content seen on social media. Scammers oftentimes create fake posts or harmful links to hack into personal data or accounts,' WCPD warned on Facebook.

According to police, the shot entered Hermosillo's vehicle through the passenger-side window and struck her in the head as she pulled up in the lane beside him, unaware of the danger. The content creator was remembered as 'a loving wife, a devoted mother, and a beautiful soul whose light touched everyone who knew her.' 'She leaves behind her husband and their 4-year-old son, who now face an unimaginable loss,' the page reads. 4 The road rage incident kick-started after two other drivers got into a heated dispute at a red light stop, prompting Dousten to allegedly open fire.
