After its theatrical run with a decent box office performance, Malayalam mystery comedy 'Detective Ujjwalan' is now set for its digital premiere. Starring
and Siju Wilson in lead roles, the film has started streaming on Netflix, as we reported earlier.

The film is part of the growing Weekend Cinematic Universe, and it has caught attention for its quirky setting and curious narrative style. Interestingly, the Dhyan Sreenivasan starrer also shares a subtle connection to 'Minnal Murali'. This adds an extra layer of intrigue to its entire universe.
Where mystery meets comedy in Plaachikkaavu
Set in the quiet village of Plaachikkaavu, 'Detective Ujjwalan' follows the titular character, a small-time detective who's usually busy solving minor local cases.
But things take an unexpected turn when a mysterious stranger arrives in town and challenges Ujjwalan's sleuthing skills.

A promising ensemble
Alongside Dhyan Sreenivasan and Siju Wilson, the film stars Kottayam Nazeer, Seema G Nair, Ameen, Nihal Nizam, Nibraz Noushad, Shahubas, and Roni David Raj. The script and direction are handled by newcomers Indraneel Gopalakrishnan and Rahul G, marking their entry into feature filmmaking with a distinctly offbeat narrative style.

The period settings are interesting and the village characters are loveable enough, though some of the superb comic talents from social media, Ameen, Nihal Nizam, Nibraz and Shahubas, are barely utilised. The film seems to go in the direction of most Dhyan films; a bit of an anti-climax."
