Kate Middleton News: Princess of Wales stops wearing her iconic engagement ring, once bought by Charles for Diana

Mint3 days ago

Kate Middleton has quietly stopped wearing her iconic sapphire engagement ring. There's a lot of history involved around the ring. It was originally purchased by Prince Charles for Princess Diana. In 1981. It was valued at £28,000. Now, it is worth £300,000 ( ₹ 3.5 crore) or more.
Instead, she now sports a stack of eternity rings. According to Jewellery experts at Steven Stone, the rings are worth around £10,000 ( ₹ 11.5 lakh).
'Kate's choice of rings suggests that she values subtlety and meaning over grandeur, while still maintaining an air of elegance and sophistication,' Maxwell Stone told MailOnline.
'Though her engagement ring has been seen less frequently, her continued display of commitment to Prince William through her eternity rings speaks to her desire for personal and understated expressions of love,' he added.
Royal watchers have noticed the switch at recent public events. It is apparently a clear shift in her jewellery choices.
The famous 12-carat Ceylon sapphire, encircled by diamonds, was given to her by Prince William in 2011. While it remains a treasured heirloom, Kate's current ring choice reflects both practicality and personal growth.
Known for her hands-on approach, Kate recently sported a new set of four rings during a Scouts promo shoot.
Her updated collection includes a £4,700 ( ₹ 5.5 lakh) Cartier diamond-and-sapphire band, rumoured to be a 13th-anniversary gift from Prince William. She is seen with a delicate £1,000 ( ₹ 1.15 lakh) white diamond ring as well.
Kate Middleton also wears a £1,500 ( ₹ 1.72 lakh) diamond eternity ring gifted after Prince George's birth. At the same time, she continues to sport her classic Welsh gold wedding band worth £2,300 ( ₹ 2.65 lakh).
The wedding ring is part of a royal tradition, shared by the Queen Mother and Queen Elizabeth II.
'Considering the nugget of gold it was made from, and the legacy of the lady who wears it, it is likely to be worth a lot more in the coming years,' Stone explains.
As per Stone, the Princess prefers jewellery with deep meaning over flashy gems. Her rings, timeless and full of sentiment, show her as a devoted wife and mother.
They are chosen for their emotional value, not their price tag. It goes well with her graceful and modest image.

Echo Valley movie review: Sydney Sweeney is squandered in Hollywood's dopey Drishyam dupe that can only be saved by Ajay Devgn

The central thrust of the Drishyam movies relies on one basic truth: Ajay Devgn's character will do just about anything to protect his family. Not only does he cover up a murder, he also concocts an intricate scheme to keep the cops off his scent. The Drishyam movies don't realise this, but the protagonist is actually a psychopath in the guise of a protective family man. In the second movie, he even allows his teenage daughter to be manhandled by the police in order to keep up the charade. The Drishyam franchise holds some sort of record for having inspired the most remakes. And although it isn't an official adaptation, the new Apple movie Echo Valley follows the exact same beats. It would've been one of the rare examples of Hollywood ripping off an Indian project had Drishyam itself not been a rip-off of a Japanese novel. Julianne Moore plays a middle-aged woman named Kate, who runs a horse farm in rural Pennsylvania. She's separated from her wealthy husband, played by Kyle MacLachlan, and is grieving the death of her wife. There's a lot of backstory in there that's communicated quite gracefully, especially for the kind of movie Echo Valley eventually turns out to be. Kate has a young daughter Claire, who's caused her immense trouble over the years. Played by Sydney Sweeney, Claire is a drug addict who comes and goes from Kate's life as she pleases. She's entangled with the wrong crowd, and has a shady boyfriend. Kate's manner, however, suggests that she's no longer interested in throwing her a rope. But when Claire shows up at her doorstep one night, soaked in what she says is her boyfriend's blood, Kate does what any mother would do. She gives her troubled daughter a hug, and tells her that she'll take care of it. Also read – Sirens review: Hilarious and horrifying, Julianne Moore's Netflix show is a cult hit in the making Kate gets to work immediately, cleaning the interiors of Claire's car and driving the dead body dozens of miles away to a lake. There, she tosses the corpse off the side of her boat, and allows it to sink to the surface. Satisfied with her handiwork, she returns home and tells Claire that she needn't worry about a thing. But this is merely the end of the first act; there's an hour of movie left. Sure enough, more trouble arrives in the shape of a scary villain played by Domhnall Gleeson. He tells Kate that her daughter lied to her, and that the boyfriend is very much alive. Claire owes this guy thousands of dollars, and staged the murder in order to save herself. Someone did die, but it wasn't Claire's partner. And because Kate got involved in the cover-up, she's one 911 call away from being arrested. The villain begins blackmailing her, and Kate has no choice but to comply. She's not only protecting herself, but also Claire. But this is when Echo Valley gets weird. Simply because she's outlived her usefulness to the plot, a scene is contrived for the express purpose of kicking Claire out of the movie. And so, for roughly 45 minutes of run time, Sweeney doesn't even appear in the film. It is left to Moore to do the heavy lifting all by herself, with some help by a scenery chewing Gleeson. Echo Valley is presented as some kind of artsy Sundance thriller; the cinematography is haunting, the pace is steady, and the tone very serious. Think of it like a version of Jennifer Lawrence's breakout movie Winter's Bone. But the movie has no idea how ridiculous it is. Read more – Fountain of Youth movie review: We never got a third National Treasure movie, and thanks to Guy Ritchie, we still haven't Forget the Drishyam-coded narrative, the entire thing rests on Kate's decidedly unbelievable criminal capabilities. Just because the plot calls for it, she magically transforms into Tom Hardy's fixer character from MobLand. There is no evidence to suggest that she has a mysterious past where she may have acquired these skills. The only flashbacks we get are of her dear departed wife, who seemed like a very nice lady. At least Ajay Devgn's character in Drishyam could claim to have learned everything he knows from the movies that he'd watch obsessively. In this regard, Echo Valley is an inferior film. Directed by Michael Pearce, the movie is written by Brad Inglesby, who remains best known for having created the acclaimed HBO series Mare of Easttown. There are overt similarities between the two projects; both feature grieving middle-aged moms as protagonists. Considering how minor the daughter character is, it's sort of surprising that a star of Sweeney's popularity agreed to play it. She has nothing to do after a point; this is when a new character, played by Harry Potter's Fiona Shaw, pops in to support Kate. Would it have been that difficult to write Claire into the story instead? Perhaps not. In fact, it seems like Sweeney backed out of the project midway through, and the Shaw character was written in as a replacement. There's a sloppiness to Echo Valley that's difficult to explain, especially since it has the look and feel of something competent. Certainly, Moore is more than capable of rescuing subpar material from itself. She's quite solid here, as a woman pushed to the end of her rope, dealing with abandonment, sorrow, and intense guilt. But that's about it. Echo Valley Director – Michael Pearce Cast – Julianne Moore, Sydney Sweeney, Domhnall Gleeson Rating – 2/5 Rohan Naahar is an assistant editor at Indian Express online. Sachin Tendulkar Never Used ‘God', Virat Kohli Didn't Write ‘King': Fans Troll Shubman Gill For ‘Prince' Bat Sticker

Shubman Gill is all set to lead India in the upcoming Test series against England starting June 2025, but his captaincy debut is already making headlines—not for cricket, but for his bat sticker. Fans spotted the word 'Prince' written below the MRF Genius logo on his bat and began trolling the young star on social media. Carrying A Legendary Legacy Gill is the latest batter to sign a bat sponsorship deal with MRF, a brand that has been associated with cricketing greats like Sachin Tendulkar, Brian Lara, AB de Villiers, and Virat Kohli. These icons proudly carried the Genius sticker on their bats but never added any personal nickname. So when Gill's bat was seen carrying the word "Prince" along with "MRF Genius", many fans felt it was too bold, especially before proving himself fully in Test cricket. Why 'Prince' Is Causing A Stir The Overhyped "Prince" of Indian Cricket Shubman Gill is so self-obsessed. Who even called you the Prince? A so-called 'Prince of ICT with a poor SENA record, a below 35 Test average, and zero overseas centuries across all formats after 5 years in his international career. — Niik (@Niiki099) June 11, 2025 The nickname 'Prince' was originally linked to Brian Lara, one of the greatest batters of all time. Over time, fans also started calling Gill 'Prince' as a sign of admiration and expectations. However, critics say that adding it to his bat sticker was a step too far. Fans pointed out that Tendulkar never used 'God' and Kohli never had 'King' written on their bats despite being globally known by those titles. Sachin Tendulkar never played with a bat that had "God" written over it and Virat Kohli never played with a bat that had "King" written over it. (@CricCrazyV) June 11, 2025 Not a New Addition, But Now Under Spotlight Interestingly, the word 'Prince' first appeared on Gill's bat during the IPL 2025 season, but it went largely unnoticed. It came into the spotlight recently after the BCCI released official team photos ahead of the England series. Fans zoomed in and spotted the sticker, triggering online discussions and mixed reactions. Despite the online trolling, Gill seems focused on the job. In his first address as captain, he encouraged his teammates to take every practice session seriously. "Let us play every ball with purpose... It's not about surviving but about discovering our game under pressure," Gill said. His calm and determined words suggest that he's aiming to make a strong start to his captaincy era. MRF, in its statement earlier this year, praised Gill as the right man to carry forward the legacy of batting excellence. "With legends like Sachin Tendulkar, Virat Kohli, and Brian Lara having graced the iconic MRF bat, Shubman Gill now carries forward this tradition," the brand said. Upcoming England Series Big Test For Shubhman Gill The upcoming five-match Test series against England will be played from June to August 2025 at Headingley (Leeds), Edgbaston (Birmingham), Lord's, The Oval (London), and Old Trafford (Manchester). It will be a huge opportunity for Gill to prove his leadership skills and silence the critics.
