Nebraska baseball suffers setback following 4-0 shutout loss to Kansas in midweek battle
Nebraska baseball (19-22) welcomed the Kansas Jayhawks (32-10) to Lincoln for a midweek single-game clash on Tuesday night. The Huskers failed to score, resulting in their second shutout loss of the season, 4-0.
The Huskers' best opportunity occurred in the first inning, with two runners on and one in scoring position. But the Jayhawks tagged both runners out on steal attempts, ending the inning.
Kansas immediately capitalized on the momentum swing, scoring twice in the second. The Jayhawks then scored two more times, one in the seventh and one in the ninth.
Nebraska totaled seven hits, while Kansas recorded nine hits. Max Buettenback produced two hits, going 2-for-4 with a double. Robby Bolin, Tyler Stone, Gabe Swansen, Case Sanderson and Will Jesske all recorded one hit.
Kansas sent six pitchers to the mound and shut down the Huskers on the day, combining for six strikeouts and allowing seven hits.
The Huskers also sent six pitchers to the mound, with Tucker Timmerman (0-1) taking the loss after allowing two runs on two hits in 2.0 innings. Gavin Blachowicz and Pryce Bender followed, both pitching 2.0 innings and shutting out Kansas.
Drew Christo pitched the seventh inning, coughing up one run and two hits. Casey Daiss also allowed one during his 1.1 innings pitched. Grant Cleavinger concluded the game, throwing one strikeout across 0.2 innnings.
The Huskers head to the East Coast, facing off against Maryland for a three-game conference series starting Friday night. The first pitch is set for 5:00 p.m. CT on B1G+.

That's when things took a turn. Dobbins suffered a torn ACL in a preseason game prior to the start of the 2021-2022 season and missed the entire year. He rehabbed but again suffered knee problems the following year, only to come back and tear his ACL during the 2023-2024 season. Dobbins signed a new contract with the Los Angeles Chargers prior to the 2024-2025 season and had what could only be described as a bounce-back year, having his most productive campaign of his career by rushing for 905 yards and nine touchdowns. Dobbins also had some yards as a receiver, putting him over 1,000 yards from scrimmage. Now, after all of that rehab and resiliency, Dobbins will be joining the Denver Broncos on a reportedly one-year, $5.25 million deal. The base salary of the contract is $2.75 million, but many incentives are available to push him over $5 million. This is great news for Dobbins. When healthy, he's shown that he can be a difference maker in the backfield, and the Broncos are banking on exactly that. Hopefully, he has a season where he's on the field as much as possible, and that translates into a long-term deal. Nebraska lands commitment from offensive tackle Rex Waterman Nebraska football landed a commitment on Tuesday from class of 2026 three-star offensive tackle Rex Waterman. He made the announcement on social media Tuesday afternoon. He is the 103rd overall offensive tackle in the 2026 class and the 21st overall player in his class from the state of Arizona, according to the On3 industry rankings. Waterman has made three visits to Lincoln in the past year. He took his first unofficial visit to the program on February 1, and then followed that up with a visit on April 5. He took an official visit this past weekend, in what was a busy weekend for the program. The Arizona native measures in at six feet five, 295 pounds. This is a solid addition for the Huskers' 2026 class that should see some movement over the next couple of weeks. The class itself ranks 60th overall in the country with five commitments, per On3 Rankings. Waterman is a prospect who could fly under the radar and become a dependable piece of the offensive line in the future.
