Celtics named frontrunners to land three-time All-Star

Yahoo5 days ago
This offseason has not been that best so far for the Boston Celtics by their standards. They have not made a giant splash yet in free agency and the team is still dealing with the injury of Jayson Tatum, who ruptured his achilles in the second round of the NBA Playoffs against the New York Knicks.
However, according to Heavy Sports, there is one star that Boston can land this offseason: Bradley Beal. Beal is expecting a buyout with the Phoenix Suns, which will make him a free agent. As a three-time All-Star, there will be no shortage of interest in Beal.

The LA Clippers have been mentioned as an early favorite to get Beal. Other teams that have been rumored to be in the mix are the Miami Heat, Milwaukee Bucks and Golden State Warriors.
But the Celtics cannot be forgotten about in this case. Tatum and Beal go way back with both kids being from St. .Louis attending the same high school. In the past, Beal teaming up with Tatum in Boston has been talked about, but it never panned out. This time around, it could happen.
Boston's situation offers something that few teams around the league do: stability and structure. Not to mention, Boston is in need of a star guard like Beal. Without Tatum for what will likely be the majority, if not, more of the 2025-2026 season, the Celtics are going to need someone that can somewhat replicate the production of Tatum. Bradley Beal may end up being the guy that steps in for Tatum's absence.

Report: Celtics Still Considering Two More Offseason Trades

Based on facts, either observed and verified firsthand by the reporter, or reported and verified from knowledgeable sources. Newsweek AI is in beta. Translations may contain inaccuracies—please refer to the original content. Brad Stevens and the Boston Celtics have been busy this offseason. Due to the torn Achilles injury suffered by Jayson Tatum and the team's luxury tax situation, the Celtics were forced to trade away two of their main pieces early on in the offseason. First, the team made a big trade with the Portland Trail Blazers to ship out veteran star guard Jrue Holiday. Boston received Anfernee Simons in return as the centerpiece of the deal. After that move, the Celtics made a trade to send Kristaps Porzingis to the Atlanta Hawks. Georges Niang was the main piece received back in that trade. Read more: Report: Celtics Miss Out on Top-Tier Offseason Target According to a report from NBA insider Jake Fischer, Boston is still showing interest in two other potential trades this offseason. "As we discussed, I think the Celtics are still very active in taking trade calls—maybe even making trade calls. There was some conversation last week between Memphis and Boston about something. We're still looking to track down more info on that. But rival teams are definitely still under the impression that Boston is looking for deals involving both Anfernee Simons and Georges Niang," Fischer said. Simons is currently owed over $27.6 million in the final year of his contract. He could be moved to save more financially, but Stevens did speak out recently and talk about the 26-year-old's future and potential fit with the team. "Anfernee is a guy people out here probably don't see as much because of the time that they play," Stevens said. "But his ability to score, to shoot the ball, make really hard shots, is pretty elite. And you look, a guy that's 26 years old and averaged 20 a game for three straight years." Of course, no one truly knows what a team is going to do. The Celtics could very well head into the 2025-26 season with both Simons and Niang on the roster. Expect to continue hearing rumors surrounding Boston. At the very least, the Celtics are a team worth keeping an eye on as a franchise potentially still open for business. Boston Celtics jersey history No. 27 - Marvin Barnes (1978-79)

The Boston Celtics have had players suiting up in a total of 68 different jersey numbers (and have three others not part of any numerical series) since their founding at the dawn of the Basketball Association of America (BAA -- the league that would become today's NBA), worn by well over 500 players in the course of Celtics history. To commemorate the players who wore those numbers, Celtics Wire is covering the entire history of jersey numbers and the players who sported them since the founding of the team. With 25 of those jerseys now retired to honor some of the greatest Celtics to wear those jerseys, there is a lot of history to cover. And for today's article, we will continue with the sixth of 13 people to wear the No. 27, Boston big man alum Marvin Barnes. After ending his college career at Providence, Barnes was picked up with the second overall selection of the 1974 NBA Draft by the Philadelphia 76ers. The Providence, Rhode Island native would play the first two seasons of his pro career with the ABA's (defunct) Spirits of St. Louis instead. He also played for the Detroit Pistons and (then) Buffalo Braves (now, Boston Celtics - it's a long story) before he was dealt to Boston in 1978. His stay with the team would span just 38 games before he would be cut. During his time suiting up for the Celtics, Barnes wore only jersey No. 27 and put up 8.1 points, 4.7 rebounds, 1.4 assists, and 1.0 steals and blocks per game. What is it like in an NBA locker room at halftime? Celtics coach Joe Mazzulla explains

What is it like in an NBA locker room at halftime? Fans of the Boston Celtics have likely often wondered how it goes for their favorite team under head coach Joe Mazzulla. Does he have the same slightly abrasive and at times seemingly unhinged bedside manner he can have with the media? Or does he take a different tack with his players when there is a game on the line at the halfway point of the contest? Now, you can get the answer to that cluster of inquiries from the man himself, after Mazzulla recently took some time to sit down with former New England Patriots star Julian Edelman on Edelman's "Games with Names" podcast. The full interview with Mazzulla is a truly wide-ranging one, and the segment in question was clipped for us to watch later by the editors of the pod. Take a look at the clip embedded below to hear what they had to say about how things go at halftime in an NBA locker room.
