Washington to cut funds for weapons purchases to Ukraine

Washington - Saba: US Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth announced on Tuesday that the United States plans to cut funds allocated in the 2026 fiscal year budget for the purchase of new weapons for delivery to Ukraine. During a hearing before the US House Appropriations Committee, in response to a question about the fate of the security assistance initiative to Ukraine in the 2026 budget, Hegseth said, "There is a cut in this budget. As you know, this administration has a completely different vision for this conflict (between Russia and Ukraine)." He continued, "We believe that a negotiated peaceful settlement is in the interest of both parties to the conflict and in the interest of the United States of America, especially in light of the competing interests around the world," according to Russia's Sputnik news agency. Ukraine has received massive financial and military aid from Western countries, primarily the United States and other European countries, since the start of the Russian special military operation in Ukraine on February 24, 2022. Western countries, through the material, military, and political support they provide to Kyiv, are seeking to obstruct the objectives of the special military operation. However, Moscow has emphasized on more than one occasion that military operations in the Donbas region will not cease until all of its objectives are achieved. Whatsapp Telegram Email
