The mother of an American woman who was allegedly murdered by an Irish man in Hungary has paid tribute to her on the six-month anniversary of her death, admitting that her family misses her 'unbearably'.
Mackenzie Michalski (31), from Fredonia, New York, was on holiday in the Hungarian capital of Budapest and was last seen at a nightclub in the city in the early hours of Tuesday, November 5th, 2024, and was listed as missing by Budapest Police Headquarters later that day.

A 37-year-old Irish man, who works in marketing, has allegedly admitted to killing Ms Michalski, a nurse practitioner from Fredonia, New York, accidentally after claiming they became intimate at a rented apartment while on holiday. He claims her death was accidental.
The arrested man, allegedly, informed police after his arrest that he attempted to conceal her body in a suitcase along with her handbag and credit card, which he transported her in the boot of his rental car to a marshy area in Szigliget in western Hungary.
The Metropolitan Court of Budapest extended his arrest until March 10th this year and have since had his detention increased by several more months while investigations continue.
Detectives have also said they found numerous alleged incriminating online searches on a computer and allege that the detained Irish suspect cleaned his apartment.

In a social media post, Ms Michalski's mother, Jill, said the family is 'grateful' for all the 'fantastic memories we've shared (and) no one can take those away'.
Ms Burek Michalski added: 'Half a year, six months, 26 weeks (and) 181 days without you. Oh Kenzie, we miss you unbearably, we celebrate your short, amazing life that affected so many, we love all the signs that let us sense you're close.
'We know you are thrilled with all the ways you're being honored and remembered (and) we love you to infinity and beyond.'
A memorial service for the nurse was held last January on what would have been her 32nd birthday.

György Magyar, the lawyer of the man suspected of murder, previously told 24.hu news in Hungary that what happened on the night in question was an 'accident' during consensual intimacy.
Ms Michalski, had travelled from Portland, Oregon in the US, and was last seen near Szimpla Kert, known as the party district in the city at around 10pm.
The young woman had been travelling throughout Europe with a female friend, and Hungary was their last stop. The two separated for the last night of their trip.
Ms Michalski's body was brought back to the US by her family in late November last year. The Fredonia native's family issued a new statement on social media saying that they believe the man suspected of killing her did it deliberately.
The Michalski family said the 'death was in no way accidental, despite claims to the contrary.'
The Michalskis have pointed out that they have been 'completely supported and cared for by the US Embassy, the FBI, Antea International Funeral Home, many translators, as well as countless people who reached out to offer services and love'.

Diesel clothing advert banned for objectifying Katie Price

An ad for clothing brand Diesel featuring the model Katie Price was irresponsible and likely to cause serious offence by objectifying and sexualising women, a watchdog has ruled. The ad, which appeared on the Guardian news website on March 26th, included an image of Price wearing a bikini and holding a handbag in front of her chest. Advertisement The UK Advertising Standards Authority (ASA) received 13 complaints that the ad objectified and sexualised women and featured a model who appeared to be unhealthily thin. The banned Diesel ad featuring Katie Price (ASA/PA) Diesel said the ad was part of a brand campaign called 'The Houseguests', which was designed to challenge stereotypes and support diversity and inclusion in the fashion industry by reflecting a wide range of body types. It believed the ad was compliant with the advertising rules but said it removed the ad from the Guardian website. The brand said Price was 46 years old and had a body type that was not usually included in high fashion campaigns, explaining that the average age for editorial models was between 16 and 23. Advertisement Diesel believed the image was a 'celebration of Ms Price's sexuality and empowerment and was not objectifying, degrading or sexualising', and 'showed Ms Price clearly in control in an active and dynamic pose where she proudly showed off her body and the handbag'. Diesel added that Price was 'well-known for her exaggerated appearance and larger-than-life personality and her large lips and breasts formed part of her curated public image', and this 'exaggerated, eccentric and altered appearance' formed part of the creativity of the campaign. Finally, Diesel said although Price was slender, she had excellent muscle tone and was not unhealthily underweight. The Guardian said it received a complaint directly about the ad on April 4th and blocked it from appearing again because it did not consider it complied with their policies. Advertisement Partly upholding the complaints, the ASA said the bikini only partially covered Price's breasts, and it considered the positioning of the handbag, in front of her stomach with the handle framing her chest, drew viewers' attention to, and emphasised, that part of her body. The ASA said: 'While we acknowledged that Ms Price was shown in a confident and self-assured pose and in control, we considered that because of the positioning of the handbag, which had the effect of emphasising and drawing attention to her breasts, the ad sexualised her in a way that objectified her. 'We therefore considered the ad was likely to cause serious offence, was irresponsible and breached the Code.' The ASA did not uphold complaints about Price appearing to be unhealthily thin, and concluded that the ad was not irresponsible on that basis. Advertisement The watchdog ruled that the ad must not appear again, adding: 'We told Diesel to ensure their future ads were socially responsible and did not cause serious or widespread offence.' Diesel said: 'Diesel's latest Houseguests campaign continues its tradition of challenging norms and embracing individuality. A key image features model Katie Price, 46, showcasing a body type rarely seen in high fashion, proving that women of all shapes and ages deserve representation. The photo celebrates confidence and empowerment without objectification. 'Shared in over 100 countries, it has not received any regulatory complaints, highlighting Diesel's commitment to respectful, inclusive storytelling.'

UK to repeal ‘archaic' 200-year-old rough sleeping law

The government will repeal the 200-year-old Vagrancy Act by the spring of next year, which criminalised rough sleeping. Deputy Prime Minister Angela Rayner stated that Labour is ending 'nearly two centuries of injustice' towards vulnerable people. Homeless charities have long advocated for the repeal of the 'archaic' law, arguing that criminalising the homeless is not the solution and that support is needed instead. New measures will be introduced through amendments to the Crime and Policing Bill to ensure police have the necessary powers, including offences for facilitating begging for gain and trespassing with intent to commit a crime. Homelessness charities such as Crisis and St Mungo's have praised the repeal, while Centrepoint cautioned against unintended consequences from the proposed amendments.
