Tasman Targets Anti-Social Road Users
Two search warrants were executed, resulting in a stolen firearm being located and three vehicle impounds for sustained loss of traction and driver licence offences.From Wednesday 28 May to Sunday 1 June 2025, Tasman Police delivered an operation focused on anti-social road users.
This was in response to an increase in complaints from the local community.
Two search warrants were executed, resulting in a stolen firearm being located and three vehicle impounds for sustained loss of traction and driver licence offences.
Further Police activities occurred across the district with Tasman Police staff supported by the Anti-Social Road User team from Christchurch.
The team deployed across Nelson Bays and Marlborough resulting in over 50 vehicles being inspected and deemed unsafe or defective.
Five more vehicles were impounded for Land Transport Act offences.
Over 100 Infringement notices were issued for speeding, restraint and distraction offences amongst many others.
Following the operation, Police have laid charges against multiple individuals for unlawful possession of a firearm, unlawful possession of ammunition, sustained loss of traction, driving whilst suspended, driving whilst disqualified and threatening behaviour. Further charges are being considered.

Three arrested after drivers flee in Manawatū, police say
(File photo) Photo: 123rf A group of dangerous drivers have been arrested after an on-road confrontation with police in Palmerston North overnight, police say. Officers reported seeing a vehicle being driven as part of a convoy on Roberts Line without license plates, about 11.40pm on Friday. The driver failed to stop for police and fled the scene in the vehicle, while the driver of another vehicle tried to block police from following, they said. Both vehicles were spiked nearby in the city, on Tremaine Avenue, a short time later. Officers arrested the two occupants of the vehicle that had no registration plates, after it came to a stop, but said the second vehicle continued to flee. "... due to the manner of driving, a pursuit was not authorised," police said. However the second vehicle was found at about 3am, and the driver arrested. A police spokesperson asked for people to report anti-social driving behaviour with as much information as safely possible. "We need your help preventing and responding to the activity," they said. "And in cases where we cannot immediately respond, [this] allows us to follow up with drivers and take later enforcement action."
