Double-ACL injury or not, this Cowboy is sleeper at the TE position for 2025
There's a temptation to name Spann-Ford the sleeper of the TE room, but his buzz has been so active, and the hype has been so prevalent, he's become the furthest thing from a sleeper. Spann-Ford is expected to earn similar snaps to Schoonmaker and there's hope he'll eventually compete for TE1 someday in the not-too-distant future. He's too good of a prospect and too forefront on the minds of Cowboys Nation to be a sleeper.
No, the sleeper is a player Cowboys fans know but might have forgotten. He's a player who's flashed playmaking ability in the past but injuries and circumstances have always gotten in the way of opportunity. He's a player, who even now, could shine in training camp and force the Cowboys to go four-deep at the TE position in 2025. It's John Stephens, Jr.
At 6-foot-5, 221-pounds, Stephens is the leanest TE on the Dallas roster. A converted receiver, Stephens displays pass catching ability the others do not on this roster. It's those plays downfield that's allowed the 25-year-old to stand out in previous training camps and it's what earned him a place on the team just one season ago.
Unfortunately for Stephens, his 2024 season came to an abrupt end after he suffered a torn ACL in practice late October. It's the same knee and same injury as a year before and may even delay the start to his 2025 campaign as a result. If anyone has earned sleeper status, it's Stephens.
Fellow TE Princton Fant has the inside track on TE4 if such a roster spot is made. And new undrafted rookie free agents Rivaldo Fairweather and Tyler Neville have the years of controllability working in their favor. But it's Stephens who makes the plays downfield others don't. It's Stephens who already has a relationship with Dak Prescott and it's Stephens who Brian Schottenheimer is most familiar.
Stephens may never be a do-everything every down TE but he's a situational weapon who's able to shine downfield as a pass catcher. If he can get a clean bill of health and be a full participant in training camp, he's the sleeper to watch from the TE position in 2025

Alex Lodise signs with Atlanta Braves
Alex Lodise is officially an Atlanta Brave. Jonathan Mayo of announced that the former Florida State Seminole had signed with the Braves for $1,297,500. It is an underslot deal, as the No. 60 pick had a value of $1.52 million. Lodise will have a chance to move quickly in the Braves system, which is light on position players, and they desperately need help at shortstop in Atlanta. He is coming off a breakout season in Tallahassee, where he won the Dick Howser Trophy after hitting .394 with 17 home runs, 18 doubles, 68 RBI, and 62 runs scored. He was also a consensus All-American and the ACC Defensive and Player of the Year. He made just five errors in 216 chances, posting a .977 fielding percentage and helping turn 34 double plays. He started all 58 of FSU's games, finishing with 31 multi-hit games and 13 three-hit games against 10 hitless games. Lodise was the first FSU shortstop drafted since Mike Salvatore in 2019 and the highest drafted since Stephen Drew went to the Arizona Diamondbacks with the 15th overall pick in the 2004 draft. He is the 14th Seminole that the Braves have selected, and the first since 2011. Philadelphia Eagles unveil Super Bowl LIX victory rings
The Philadelphia Eagles have received their Super Bowl LIX rings, and showed them off on social media Friday night. The rings were made by Jason of Beverly Hills, and feature a pair of Lombardi trophies to signify the team's second Super Bowl win after its first in 2018. The Eagles defeated the Kansas City Chiefs 40-22, denying the Chiefs their third-straight Super Bowl and avenging their Super Bowl XLVII loss to Kansas City just two years earlier. Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts won Super Bowl MVP, throwing for 221 yards, two touchdowns and one interception. The Eagles will host the Dallas Cowboys for their Week 1 opener in September, and they'll celebrate their recent championship one final time that night when they hang their Super Bowl banner in the rafters at Lincoln Financial Field. Why didn't the Broncos sign Von Miller?
Von Miller agreed to terms on a one-year contract with the Washington Commanders earlier this week. Terms of the deal are not yet known, which is probably a sign that it's a team-friendly deal (agents are often quick to publicize the details of player-friendly contracts). If the assumption that Miller did not receive a massive salary is accurate, the Denver Broncos probably could have afforded to sign him ( estimates Denver has more than $12.6 million in salary cap space). So, why didn't the Broncos sign Miller for the 2025 season? Miller has made it clear that he loves the team and wants to retire as a Bronco, so it's clearly not a matter of the player not being interested in a reunion. Instead, it seems to be a matter of numbers. Denver already has Nik Bonitto (a second-team All-Pro last year) and Jonathon Cooper (who totaled 10.5 sacks last year, more than Miller has recorded in any year since 2018). The Broncos also used a third-round pick to select Jonah Ellis last year, and he was productive as a rotational rookie with five sacks. Denver also found a UFL gem in Dondrea Tillman last spring, and he also recorded five sacks last fall. So the top four pass rusher spots are set, and the Broncos used a fourth-round draft pick to select Que Robinson in April. Denver also signed high-profile undrafted free agent pass rusher Johnny Walker. That's at least five and possibly six outside linebackers who could end up on the 53-man roster. The Broncos' rotational pass rushers also play on special teams, and Miller has acknowledged that's not something he's looking to do at 36 years old (and it wouldn't make sense to ask him to). At this point in his career, Miller is a luxury piece -- a situation pass rusher who makes sense for a contender that doesn't have a packed depth chart at his position. Denver's OLB room is packed, and the team wants to continue developing its young pass rushers. So while Miller will undoubtedly return to retire as a Bronco one day, there just wasn't room for him on the squad in 2025. Social: Follow Broncos Wire on Facebook and Twitter/X!
