How to get a Nintendo Switch 2 this week in the UK

Metro2 days ago

Pre-ordering a Nintendo Switch 2 during launch week is not going to be easy, but the odds are increased if you know where to look.
While there have been complaints online about the Nintendo Switch 2's pricing (more so for its first party games than the console itself), it is still expected to be a hot commodity once it launches on Thursday, June 5.
With stock routinely selling out across the country, the best time to score a Nintendo Switch 2 pre-order was last month. The next best time is right now.
If you're unsure where to look, we've put together a list of retailers worth checking for any last minute stock or at least for receiving alerts from when the console becomes available again.
At the time of writing, the only place we could find with any Switch 2 stock is Very. Listed below is every bundle they have, but be sure to act quick before they run out.
While it doesn't have any stock at the moment, ShopTo is currently accepting back orders for shipments starting the week of June 9. The only option it has, though, is for the Mario Kart World bundle, which it's selling for £429.95.
Alternatively, if you're willing to stay up till midnight, Smyths is running a launch event across all its stores and it will have limited stock available. Use this store tracker to see if there's a Smyths near you and you may be able to purchase one in person.
It may not hurt to check your local Argos as well. While it is not offering online pre-orders for either the console on its own or the Mario Kart World bundle, its website says they can be ordered in-store. You can see where your closest Argos is with this store locator. More Trending
We did notice that GAME is offering pre-orders on its website after it accidentally cancelled a bunch of them, but something screwy is going on with it since, as we write this, the Switch 2 on its own is listed for £9,999.
As it stands, everywhere else is sold out, but we still recommend bookmarking these sites and regularly checking them in case any stock arrives ahead of launch:
The only other alternative is to buy a pre-order second-hand through eBay, but we wouldn't recommend it since you would be paying more than the console is worth.
Typically, the Switch 2 on its own is £395.99, but on eBay you'll find it going for more than £440, making it more expensive than the bundle that comes with Mario Kart World.

Mario Kart World doesn't have 200cc but it is easier to dodge blue shells now

A producer behind Mario Kart World has hinted 200cc could be added post-launch, as various other tweaks are unearthed. Mario Kart World looks set to be the Switch 2's best game when it launches alongside the console on Thursday, but there are still some lingering questions about its features. Following our latest hands-on preview, our primary concern was whether there's enough to do in the open world, or if this will be expanded upon with live service style events and additional missions post-launch. While we don't know how Nintendo plans to support Mario Kart World in the future, the game's producer, Kosuke Yabuki, has implied 200cc, the fastest and highest difficulty from its predecessor, could make a return. Yabuki was asked about the possibility of 200cc making a return in an interview with Rolling Stone, where he gave a coy response. 'Some players are really happy with the addition of high difficulty modes like this,' Yabuki replied. 'However, does that mean we're going to consider adding engine sizes that are larger than 150cc to Mario Kart World? I'm afraid I can't say just yet.' Some people might bemoan the lack of 200cc in Mario Kart World at launch, but it was originally introduced as a free post-launch update for Mario Kart 8 in 2015, alongside the Animal Crossing DLC tracks. Sign up to the GameCentral newsletter for a unique take on the week in gaming, alongside the latest reviews and more. Delivered to your inbox every Saturday morning. Yabuki's comments don't rule out 200cc being added down the line, but the big question is what kind of post-launch support Mario Kart World will receive at large. Mario Kart 8 on Wii U received both free and paid DLC in the form of new tracks, which was later expanded upon with the Booster Course Pass for Mario Kart 8 Deluxe on the Switch. Beyond DLC, Mario Kart fans have noticed several other quirks about the next instalment. As highlighted in videos on X, it appears the window to dodge blue shells with a well-timed mushroom boost has been expanded and made easier to pull off. More Trending Other mechanics in Mario Kart World might make this easier too. The new ability to Charge Jump, along with the return of the Feather item, which allows you to pull off large hops, makes dodging pesky shells easier across the board – although you're still going to have to be very skilled/lucky to avoid a blue shell. If you're worried this might imbalance the fundamental laws of Mario Kart, the larger number of racers on the track at one time (24 in total) who are all firing weapons, coupled with the larger track sizes, appears to even these things out, based on our time with the game. Aside from Mario Kart World, the Switch 2 launch line-up also includes Nintendo Switch 2 Welcome Tour, Cyberpunk 2077: Ultimate Edition, Split Fiction, and others. PlayStation State of Play June 2025 start time and how to watch

The latest PlayStation State of Play presentation will be taking place soon, and players are already getting excited about what we might see during the showcase A new PlayStation State of Play presentation is set to arrive today, and it's fair to say that gamers have sky-high expectations for the event. The summer reveals of the gaming industry are beginning to emerge, and as the Nintendo Switch 2 launch is on the horizon with a plethora of Switch 2 launch games both old and new, other gaming companies are scrambling to fill their own output gaps with new presentations to unveil their latest and greatest titles. Thankfully, PlayStation has emerged from the shadows with a new showcase for players. ‌ There are some major titles coming for the platform, with Ghost of Yotei still on course for a massive launch this year and the forthcoming Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet expected to help reestablish Naughty Dog as narrative champions, so it's logical that there's much more for the company to flaunt, especially with no gameplay revealed for these games. There is hope for more surprises from Sony 's gaming arm, though, and as the Nintendo Switch 2 threatens to match its hardware capabilities, it needs more to market itself on, particularly as the recent PS Plus drops are significant, but ultimately falls short in comparison to Xbox Game Pass ' Doom: The Dark Ages arrival. ‌ It seems more surprises are in store, and with a new PlayStation State of Play showcase on the horizon, we could be in for some major revelations as early as today. So when exactly is this new showcase? Here's how to tune into the PlayStation State of Play June 2025. How to watch PlayStation State of Play June 2025 The PlayStation State of Play June 2025 kicks off at 2pm PDT / 5pm EDT / 10pm BST on Wednesday, June 4. You can catch the showcase on both YouTube and Twitch. Watch the PlayStation State of Play June 2025 on YouTube Watch the PlayStation State of Play June 2025 on Twitch The Twitch stream of the showcase hasn't been unveiled on the PlayStation Twitch channel as yet, but we'll update the above link with the precise stream once it's available. We've included the YouTube embed below so you can click through from there. ‌ The showcase is anticipated to run for just over 40 minutes, as disclosed by a recent blog post, and will be broadcast in English. Co-streamers are cautioned that the broadcast may contain copyrighted content, so if you're streaming or planning to repost clips from the show, you might want to keep your finger on the mute button just in case. What will be announced in the PlayStation State of Play June 2025? While nothing concrete has been confirmed, gamers are certainly holding their breath in anticipation. The game that has probably been kept under wraps the longest since its announcement in the PlayStation line-up is Insomniac Games' Wolverine, which is eagerly awaited by fans of the Marvel's Spider-Man games. Similarly, with the release dates of Death Stranding 2: On The Beach, Ghost of Yotei, Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater, and Hell Is Us rapidly approaching, it wouldn't be surprising to see these games featured in the showcase. ‌ Rumours are also swirling about a potential Final Fantasy Tactics remaster after the game's director and writer Tasumi Matsuno shared the State of Play's announcement on Twitter, only to quickly delete it. Mysterious BlueSky posts from gaming journalist Jason Schreier have further stoked the flames (as collated by Twitter user @Genki_JPN), and excitement among fans is mounting. There's also high expectation for the announcement of the latest instalment in the Resident Evil franchise now that Resident Evil 4 has had its moment in the spotlight and four years have passed since the release of a new mainline title. We might also see a few more Xbox 'exclusives' on PS5 as its waves of games continue to roll in. While we can't say for certain, given Microsoft's history, it wouldn't be too out of the ordinary. It should be a big deal either way, though – the May 30, 2024 State of Play Showcase (via PlayStation on YouTube) revealed Concord (which at the time was hoped to be a huge hit. We all know how that ended up), showed off gameplay for Marvel Rivals and Monster Hunter Wilds, and most crucially, gave us our first look at the iconic Astro Bot. ‌ If this showcase is going to be of a similar calibre, we're in for a genuinely huge collection of reveals. Consider this your permission to get excited. Make sure you don't miss out on our latest high-quality videos on YouTube, TikTok, and Facebook, where we'll be posting our latest reviews, previews, interviews, and live streams!
