I created a personalised skincare routine with a £34 at-home skin analysis tool
The Beautypro skin analysis device gives you an accurate reading on what your skin needs to help you tailor your skincare routine to suit your complexion – and it's on sale for £34
If you've ever had a fancy facial, you'll know that one of the most fascinating parts is when your beautician analyses your skin and determines exactly what your skin needs. Although these types of analysis can be pricey, I spotted this brilliant affordable version that you can do from the comfort of your home and decided to put it to the test.
As someone with chronically dry skin I'm always looking for ways to improve my skin's condition, and the Beautypro Hydratest Skin Analysis Device was exactly what I needed to elevate my skincare routine. It helps determine your skin's oil and hydration levels, allowing you to alter your skincare products according to what your skin needs, and lets you keep track of any improvements.
One of the best initial things about the Hydratest is how compact it is. It's no bigger than a regular marker pen, so it's easy to store in your bathroom cabinet or in a drawer or shelf without taking up too much space. It also could not be easier to use.
You simply press the measurement button, let it do a quick self test, then it's good to go. You then just press it into your skin in whatever area you want to test until it beeps, and the rounded ball tips will read your skin and give you your results – all in under three seconds.
The Hydratest Skin Analysis Device has a clear, easy to read display that shows you what hydration percentage your skin has as well as an oil level guide, so you can see where your skin falls. There's also a handy chart which comes with it that lets you make sense of your readings, so you can see which areas your skin needs improving on.
Its price is also a huge selling point; it's one of the most affordable on the market. Currently Sephora has it on sale down from £49 to £34.30.
If you do want something super advanced, this Professional Skin Analyzer Machine is a whopping £1438. The MASKOLOGY Skin Analyser is also very similar to Beautypro's, and priced at £49. The Boddceto Woods Lamp Skin Analyzer is £35.62, but it requires much more faffing around (including getting your hands on a medical grade magnifying glass).
My review of the
It'll come as no surprise that my dry skin ranked at around 33% hydration levels, which is dry. Certain areas, like around my temples and forehead, were as low as 27% – which immediately told me those needed more attention when it came to my serums and moisturisers.
This is a super simple and effective way of getting a good reading (quite literally) on your skin, although if I had to nitpick it would be brilliant if there was some kind of app or something which could offer skincare suggestions. However, the simplicity of this is also its strength; you can quickly grab it and use it in seconds, and it's ideal for giving you some direction in your skincare regime.
I tried it again after a week of careful moisturising, adding extra hydrating products to my routine and upping my water intake, and the Hydratest Skin Analysis Device did show an improvement. It wasn't drastic, but considering it takes around a month for new skin cells to renew I'd be shocked if it was a dramatic increase. However I loved that it showed me I was heading in the right direction.
This will definitely become a handy tool in my skincare arsenal, and considering you'd usually only have access to this type of info by spending big money or as part of a professional facial, it was fab. It currently only has one review on Sephora, but it's a positive five star one.
They said: 'Bought this after attending a Tropic skincare event where they used similar devices so I thought I'd give it a go. Very impressed with it certainly better in quality than the cheap £15 ones on Amazon! Keep a regular check on your hydration levels, could be used in a beauty business too.'
You can shop Beautypro's Hydratest Skin Analysis Device for £34.30 (down from £49) now.

Shoppers 'come back to' face wash with loads of five-star reviews
Fresh Soy Face Cleanser has been a firm favourite since it was first launched in 1990 and it's been approved by people with sensitive or irritated skin The skincare market is awash with products flaunting cutting-edge technologies and ingredients, all designed to keep beauty enthusiasts looking their best while addressing skin issues. However, there are always those timeless staples that everyone adores, and for me, it's the Fresh Soy Face Cleanser - a gentle yet hard-working face wash. First introduced in 1990, this cleanser combines soy proteins, cucumber extract, and rosewater in its formula, creating a hydrating trio that ensures a balanced and softened complexion. The jumbo 400ml size is on offer at Sephora for £62 instead of £66, where it has thousands of five-star reviews. Elsewhere on LookFantastic, shoppers can get a 50ml version for £15 or 150ml tube for £34. This face wash does more than just boost hydration; it also doubles as a makeup remover, deeply cleansing pores without stripping the skin. The amino acid-rich soy protein helps retain skin elasticity for a smooth and supple feel, while also maintaining the skin's pH value and strengthening the moisture barrier. For those with sensitive skin, shoppers have recommended the La Roche-Posay Toleriane Dermo-Cleanser Sensitive Skin, priced at £23.50. This milky cleanser is enriched with Glycerine and La Roche-Posay Thermal Spring Water, instantly soothing and cleansing irritated skin, reported Birmingham Live. Alternatively, TikTok-viral Korean beauty brand Dr Althea's Pure Grinding Cleansing Balm has a sorbet-like texture that melts makeup and deep cleanses, which is gentle on sensitive skin thanks to the 14 essential ingredients in the formula. It's currently on 13% off on Amazon and reduced to £19.99. Fresh Soy Face Cleanser 50ml £66 £15 LookFantastic Buy Now on LookFantastic Product Description The Soy Face Cleanser is a gentle, barely foaming facial wash with a unique texture that I liken to room-temperature egg yolk, infused with a waft of crisp cucumber and fresh aloe vera. Simply dampen your skin and massage over your face and eyes to remove dirt and makeup before rinsing with water – it's perfect for daily use both morning and night. Post-rinse, my skin was devoid of any feeling of tightness, and the cleanser also helped soothe my occasional acne, aiding in a speedier recovery process. More than 2,600 customers have endorsed the Fresh cleanser with stellar five-star testimonials. One customer enthused: "It thoroughly takes off any excess dirt and makeup from my skin after my oil cleanse and I've noticed that I haven't been breaking out in spots where I normally struggle with acne due to residual makeup." Another commented: "I had my boyfriend try it after he got sunburned to wash his face, and it was extremely gentle for him as well, while still cleaning his skin." However, a group of shoppers conceded that they were "not a big fan of the scent". With one remarking: "It smells like cucumbers but it's a bit too strong for my nose, which is particularly sensitive to any fragrances." Another customer expressed her preference for a more frothy consistency, explaining: "I feel like I had to use more product than normal to wash my face because it didn't lather. It did leave my skin feeling soft and clean." One customer has been a repeat customer for years: "I have used this product on and off since I was 15 years old. Over 10 years later, I still come back to it. It is super gentle, never broken me out and removed makeup well. Don't use if you have a soy allergy, other than that, it is a wonderful product." "One small dab will clean my whole face. I love that it's not a foaming face wash and that it is extremely gentle," another satisfied customer shared. "Many cleansers that I've used have required two 'washings' in order to get all of my makeup off - Fresh's Soy Face Cleanser does not."
