Prevent Child Abuse America Launches Groundbreaking Public Service Campaign to Prevent Child Abuse Before It Happens

CHICAGO, March 19, 2025 /PRNewswire/ -- Prevent Child Abuse America, a leading advocate for child well-being, is proud to announce the launch of a new public service campaign aimed at raising awareness and promoting proactive solutions to prevent child abuse before it ever begins. 'Kids Say… Not A Bad Parent Problem', the new campaign seeks to break the harmful stigma that child abuse is solely a result of 'bad parenting' and instead highlights the broader social, economic, and environmental factors that contribute to family crises.
At least 1 in 7 children in the United States experience abuse or neglect each year. However, child abuse is preventable. The new public service announcement (PSA) set to air on TV and Radio across the U.S. underscores that by strengthening families through access to resources, supportive services, and community programs, we can create safer, healthier environments where children can thrive.
'Every child deserves the opportunity to live a purposeful and happy life with hope for the future,' said Melissa Merrick, PhD, President and CEO of Prevent Child Abuse America. 'Our campaign is about shifting the conversation from blame to prevention. By investing in families and providing the right support systems, we can help prevent child abuse before it happens.'
The campaign features a series of :15, :20, :30, and :60-second television PSAs that encourage individuals, organizations, and policymakers to take action. Viewers will learn how they can support families by advocating for evidence-based programs, donating to prevention initiatives, and connecting families to local resources.
PCAA's signature home visiting program, Healthy Families America, has been proven to reduce child abuse and intimate partner violence while improving long-term health and educational outcomes.
The PSA campaign aligns with their vision of a world where all children grow up happy, healthy, and supported by strong families and communities.

Elysium Therapeutics' Investor Webcast Highlights "Fentanyl Rebound" as Key Challenge in Reducing Opioid Overdose Hospitalizations and Deaths

Elysium's Synthetic Opioid Overdose Prevention and Reversal (SOOPR™) technology designed specifically to combat oral fentanyl overdose LYONS, Colo., June 11, 2025 /PRNewswire/ -- Elysium Therapeutics, an emerging biopharmaceutical company developing treatments specifically designed to rescue and reverse overdoses caused by oral opioids, including synthetic opioids like fentanyl, recently hosted a webcast to educate investors and pharmaceutical leaders on the pressing need to develop overdose rescue therapies designed specifically for synthetic opioids, like fentanyl. Entitled, "Innovating Solutions to Combat Fentanyl Rebound" and led by Greg Sturmer, CEO, the presentation noted that short-acting opioid antagonists like Narcan® and Opvee® are frequently ineffective in the management of synthetic opioid overdoses1, with 20 to 45% of overdose victims initially rescued with naloxone experiencing a re-narcotization event. Sturmer commented: "When fentanyl is taken orally, individuals can face a danger zone, a period of respiratory depression that can last six to eight hours, which far outlasts the window provided by currently available rescue agents that only last, at most, 30 minutes. The result is nearly half of those initially given a dose of today's rescue medications experience a rebound or re-narcotization event, which can lead to a hypoxic brain injury, cardiovascular toxicity or death." To address this critical shortcoming, Elysium designed its Synthetic Opioid Overdose Prevention and Reversal (SOOPR™) technology to be both faster acting and with the potential to offer overdose protection out to approximately 24-hours. Additionally, Elysium designed SOOPR with an intramuscular route of administration, which grants more reliable dosing, in comparison to intranasal administration, which can lead to partial and uncertain dosing in high stress settings. Sturmer added: "SOOPR was designed specifically for synthetic opioids, which are now the number one killer of adults aged 18 to 45 in the U.S. The need for a rapid-acting, long-duration reversal agent, such as SOOPR, is extreme given its potential to reduce the likelihood of hypoxic brain injury, cardiovascular events, re-narcotization, and death. Recognizing this opportunity, Elysium is planning to rapidly advance the SOOPR clinical program along a timeline that could enable the technology to reach the market in the next two to three years." About SOOPR™ (Synthetic Opioid Overdose Prevention and Rescue) SOOPR (Synthetic Opioid Overdose Prevention and Reversal) is a rapid-onset, long-acting rescue agent specifically designed to address overdose from synthetic opioids, including oral fentanyl. SOOPR utilizes a proprietary long-acting naloxone reversal formulation with faster onset kinetics versus Narcan® delivered via long-acting injection (LAI) technology. The technology is designed to rapidly restore respiration and provide 18 – 24 hours of effective opioid blockade to minimize the risk of re-narcotization, while also providing protection from same-day re-use of opioids. SOOPR has been endorsed by first responders and OUD treatment professionals as the effective solution urgently needed to address the global opioid overdose epidemic. About Elysium Therapeutics Elysium is an emerging biopharmaceutical company developing treatments specifically designed to rescue and reverse overdoses caused by oral synthetic opioids, including fentanyl. Elysium is working to establish new standards of safety in the opioid industry by developing SMART™ (Safer Medicines Alleviate Risks and Trauma) products, first- and best-in-class medicines that address the limitations and dangers associated with opioids and overdose rescue agents to reduce suffering from opioid-use disorder, opioid overdose, and acute pain. Elysium's lead technology, SOOPR™ (Synthetic Opioid Overdose Prevention and Reversal), is a long-acting opioid antagonist specifically designed to address oral synthetic opioid, including fentanyl, overdose. Tens of thousands of unnecessary overdose deaths each year exemplifies the critical shortcomings of currently available rescue agents, including naloxone and nalmefene. In addition, Elysium is developing oral-overdose protected (O2P™) hydrocodone for the treatment of moderate-to-severe acute pain. Dads Get Postpartum Depression, Too: Everyone Should Know Symptoms of Perinatal Mental Health Disorders; Support Is Free, Accessible and Effective

International Fathers' Mental Health Day (June 16) Brings Awareness to Seldom-Discussed Conditions; Experts Urge People to Check on Dads PORTLAND, Ore., June 11, 2025 /PRNewswire/ -- At least one in ten fathers experience postpartum depression, although few of them realize what they are experiencing or get help. Instead, they suffer alone. Societal norms and expectations contribute to the prevalence of perinatal mental health disorders (PMHDs) and are barriers to treatment. Founded by postpartum depression survivor Mark Williams and Psychologist and PSI Advisory Board Chair Daniel Singley, Ph.D., International Fathers' Mental Health Day is held annually on the day after Father's Day (June 16 this year) to highlight key aspects of paternal mental health. Interviews are available with experts and fathers with lived experience. Nonprofit Postpartum Support International (PSI) is working to shatter the stigma surrounding PMHDs among fathers to normalize these conditions and to encourage dads and the people who love them to know the symptoms and where to get help. Research shows: Postpartum depression and other PMHDs, including anxiety, obsessive-compulsive disorder, post-traumatic stress disorder, bipolar disorder, and psychosis, affect 800,000 people a year. At least one in 10 men suffer from postpartum depression during the perinatal period, which includes pregnancy and the year following birth. As many as 50% of fathers suffer from PMHDs when their partner is suffering. As many as 18% of fathers develop a clinically significant anxiety disorder such as generalized anxiety disorder, obsessive-compulsive disorder, and post-traumatic stress disorder at some point during their partner's pregnancy or the first year postpartum. Only 25% of those who suffer get help, and many parents are unaware that what they are experiencing is normal and treatable. "Societal norms tell us that men are strong and should support their partners, which makes fathers feel like they are failing," Singley said. "Stigma and shame are huge reasons why so many men don't seek help, even though these conditions are common and treatable." Men often exhibit different symptoms of depression. It can manifest itself as anger, irritation, frustration, and being short with people, or withdrawing from relationships. Dads may start drinking more alcohol or using other substances. Their loved ones and friends may not recognize the symptoms, and worse, may push struggling dads away at a time when they most need support. "Many mental health professionals do not connect the behaviors associated with perinatal mental health disorders in men with the fact that the father may be depressed or have anxiety. We are working to change that," Singley said. David Levine, M.D., a New Jersey pediatrician and former vice chair of PSI's Board of Directors, suffered from postpartum depression after the birth of his first son, Zachary, in 2013, and is now an advocate for dads' mental health. "I thought Zachary hated me. Every time I was around him, he would cry. And then I started to obsessively worry he was crying constantly because there was something seriously wrong with him," Levine said. "As a pediatrician, I was keenly aware of all the potential issues. But I didn't realize I was suffering from postpartum depression." Levine kept his feelings inside, as many fathers do. When Zachary was about six weeks old, Levine had a breakdown, which led him — with the encouragement of his wife — to start therapy. "After a few months, I could finally breathe again; I was able to be the father I wanted to be, the dad Zachary and my wife needed me to be. And now I am part of a vibrant community helping other parents who are going through what I did." Dads and their partners should know free support is available, and no diagnosis is needed to reach out for help. PSI offers coordination, comfort, and peer support, and helps people find resources online and in their own communities. Parents can call the PSI Helpline at 1-800-944-4773 (English and Spanish), text "help" to 1-800-944-4773 (English) or 971-203-7773 (Spanish) or visit The Connect by PSI app, available for download in the App Store and Google Play Store, provides free, easy access to resources. "Adding a child to the family is stressful for all parents. There are many changes to your lifestyle, relationship, and finances, and it happens quickly; it is easy to lose your sense of self, just as you're trying to be the best parent and spouse you can," said Wendy Davis PhD, PMH-C, President and CEO of Postpartum Support International. "As part of PSI's commitment to a whole-family approach to perinatal mental health, we are proud to sponsor International Fathers' Mental Health Day to raise awareness and decrease the stigma dads often face." PSI has an online Perinatal Mental Health Provider Directory that lists trained providers and support groups, and operates a Perinatal Psychiatric Consultation Program, through which medical providers can consult with an expert perinatal psychiatrist at no charge. PSI facilitates more than 50 free virtual support groups including those for dads, military families, LGBTQIA+ families, Spanish speakers, and more. PSI has a specialized support coordinator for dads, a volunteer who provides understanding and support for fathers who are struggling. PSI's Chats for Dads phone meetings, held the first Tuesday of each month, provide a space where dads, partners, extended family members or other support people, and professionals can find answers and support from an expert and from each other. The sessions feature honest and compassionate talk about the adjustment to parenthood; information about how fatherhood can affect men; and helpful advice. Demand for PET Imaging Surges 12.2% in 2024, Straining Capacity at U.S. Facilities, IMV Report Finds

ARLINGTON, Va., June 11, 2025 /PRNewswire/ -- PET procedure volumes grew by 12.2% in 2024 compared to the previous year, according to IMV's newly released 2025 PET Market Summary Report. The increase reflects mounting demand for molecular imaging services and is putting pressure on existing imaging infrastructure across the United States. While procedure volumes climbed, the average number of scans per installed fixed PET/CT system rose by 8.2%, indicating that many facilities are absorbing the increased demand using current system capacity. According to Davin Korstjens, Director of Market Intelligence at IMV Medical Information Division, "The uptick in both overall volume and per-system utilization highlights the efficiency of current systems, but also signals a need to reassess future imaging capacity." Physician Workload and Facility Differences The report reveals that at sites with fixed PET/CT systems, physicians read an average of 336 PET scans annually per site. However, this number varies widely by facility size—from just 119 scans per physician in hospitals with fewer than 200 beds to 567 scans per physician in hospitals with more than 400 beds. Site Type Scans per Physician per Site All Fixed PET Sites 336 <200 Bed Hospitals 119 200–399 Bed Hospitals 243 >400 Bed Hospitals 567 Hospital-Owned Imaging Centers 260 Independent Imaging Centers 285 General radiologists read PET scans at 69% of surveyed sites, followed by nuclear medicine physicians (51%) and cardiologists/nuclear cardiologists (11%). The top referring specialists include medical oncologists, radiation oncologists, and pulmonologists. Wait Times Rise with Demand Forty percent of sites reported wait times of eight days or more for nonemergency outpatient PET scans—a figure that remains steady year-over-year but has more than doubled since 2019. This trend, coupled with growing scan volumes and system usage, points to increasing strain on PET imaging resources. Future Outlook "With longer wait times and higher utilization, the data suggests that facilities may need to expand PET imaging capacity to keep up with growing demand," added Korstjens. IMV's 2025 PET Market Summary Report offers a comprehensive view of the PET imaging landscape in the U.S., including procedure volumes, equipment installed base, service providers, purchase plans, and site operations. Based on survey responses from 509 radiology professionals collected between February 2024 and January 2025, the report includes insights on key vendors such as Bracco, Canon, Cardinal Health, GE HealthCare, Jubilant/Draximage/Triad Isotopes, PharmaLogic, Philips, Siemens, SOFIE/IBA/Eastern Isotopes, and United Imaging.
