De Bruyne on Napoli move: Lukaku wanted me to join
Belgian midfielder Kevin De Bruyne revealed on Saturday how compatriot and long-term national teammate Romelu Lukaku played a role in his move to Italian club Napoli. De Bruyne is raring to go at Serie A champion Napoli after not being offered a contract extension by Manchester City, and said linking up with Lukaku was part of the appeal. 'Romelu was happy (about the move), I spoke with him in the national team (camp), he wanted me to join. I know Romelu since we were 13-years-old, so we are really tight together. When we played in Chelsea we lived together for two or three months,' the former City player told reporters. 'It makes it a little bit easier that I know him because he is somebody who can translate for me and it helps because he knows the coach, he knows the team.' 'I have been in the Premier League for so long and in the end I made the decision to go out of England,' De Bruyne told reporters on Saturday. 'I have done what I have done and in the end I am a Man City player for life. It was also with the way that it ended for me, I thought, it is time to find a new challenge. 'When I had the whole project in front of me and then the fact that I could play in Italy and still play at a high level was exciting for me.' De Bruyne, who turned 34 last month, said he had much to learn in Italy, but with polyglot Lukaku by his side, the learning curve looks far less steep as he adjusts to Antonio Conte's side. 'Napoli already are champions but they are still improving their squad... I am hoping that I can help the team grow and I will also learn from them, a new way of playing, a new competition,' De Bruyne added. Napoli begins its 2025–26 Serie A campaign on August 13 with a trip to Sassuolo.

Napoli banking on Kevin de Bruyne to avoid repeat of last season's title collapse
Napoli manager Antonio Conte is banking on Kevin De Bruyne to avoid the debacle of the 2023-24 season. The last time Napoli won the Serie A, they had a disastrous title defence campaign in the 2023-24 season, which saw the club go through 3 winning the title in 2022-23, their first in 33 years, Napoli finished in 10th place the next season. Conte was handed the responsibility of reviving Napoli in June last year and promptly won them the Scudetto in the recently concluded definition, those who have the Scudetto on their jersey are favourites or among the favourites. We must not shy away or hide out of fear," Conte told reporters on Friday. "We have worked hard to tailor ourselves. It is inevitable that this year will be very challenging."But there is a very recent past that we must never forget. We must learn lessons even from negative things. What happened two years ago must be a lesson, especially to the environment. We are on the field and we work, there will never be any flights of fancy. We will be very humble."Napoli have strengthened their title-winning squad with the addition of Belgian playmaker Kevin De Bruyne, Dutch winger Noa Lang and Italian centre back Luca Marianucci, among Bruyne, regarded as one of the greatest midfielders in Premier League history, lifted 19 trophies at Manchester City since his 2015 move from German side VfL Wolfsburg — a haul that includes six Premier League titles and one Champions League hopes the 34-year-old can help Napoli take that extra step."He comes to us to take on a new challenge, it is a different situation for him too: he has already reached very high levels in his career and has a lot more to give to football," Conte begin their pre-season with a friendly match against Arezzo on Tuesday.- EndsTrending Reel

Who is Christian Pulisic? USMNT star beats Lamine Yamal to win 2025 ESPYS best soccer player award
Christian Pulisic, the captain of the U.S. Men's National Team (USMNT), has added another accolade to his growing resume by winning the Best Soccer Player award at the 2025 ESPYS. Pulisic outshone a formidable trio from Barcelona, Lamine Yamal, Aitana Bonmatí, and Alexia Putellas, to claim the award, determined by public vote. This victory also highlights his remarkable 2024-25 season with AC Milan. Christian Pulisic delivered his best professional campaign yet, tallying an impressive 17 goals and 10 assists in 50 appearances for AC Milan. His contributions were instrumental in securing the Italian Super Cup for the Rossoneri, their first since 2016. A standout moment came in a dramatic 3–2 comeback win against rivals Inter Milan, where Pulisic scored a crucial goal. 'That goal against Inter was one of those moments you dream about as a kid,' Pulisic said in a post-match interview, reflecting his passion for big stages. Despite his individual brilliance, AC Milan struggled in Serie A, finishing eighth and missing out on European competitions. However, Pulisic's performances earned him widespread admiration. Pulisic's ESPYS win is particularly significant given the caliber of his competitors. Lamine Yamal, an 18-year-old sensation and a frontrunner for the 2025 Ballon d'Or, recorded 18 goals and 21 assists while helping Barcelona secure a domestic treble. Aitana Bonmati, the 2024 Women's Ballon d'Or winner, and Alexia Putellas, a two-time Ballon d'Or recipient, led Barcelona to another Liga F title, a fifth Spanish Super Cup, and an 11th Copa de la Reina. However, Pulisic's strong fanbase and exceptional season made him claim the win. By claiming the Best Soccer Player award, Pulisic has joined an exclusive list of soccer icons, including Kylian Mbappe, Lionel Messi, David Beckham, Ronaldinho, and Mia Hamm. The ESPYS, an annual ESPN-produced ceremony, celebrate athletic excellence, and Pulisic's victory underscores his growing influence. From his early days in Hershey, Pennsylvania, to starring for top clubs like Borussia Dortmund, Chelsea, and now AC Milan, Pulisic has amassed 56 goals and 41 assists in 258 appearances, including a hat trick. His 2025 ESPYS win is a testament to his talent and a sign of even greater achievements to come.
