Virginia high school teacher arrested, accused of receiving inappropriate photos, grooming minors
The Fauquier County Sheriff's Office (FCSO) said that the arrest of Gary Robert 'Bobby' Hix, 28, followed an investigation that included interviews and a review of electronic devices and social media.
FCSO said that detectives determined that Hix was using the app Snapchat to contact students or football players under his supervision. He would ask for nude images from these individuals, who were both minors and adults.

FCSO said that Hix also groomed minors, gaining a child's trust by isolating them or giving them gifts and telling them secrets to make them feel special. FCSO said that this makes a situation where 'abuse seems normal or acceptable.'
'The trust families place in us to protect and care for their children is sacred, and any violation of that trust is intolerable. We are cooperating fully with the Sheriff's Office and taking all appropriate personnel actions to address this matter and ensure the continued safety of our students,' Major Warner, Superintendent of Fauquier County Public Schools, said in a statement.
The Sheriff's Office said that the investigation into this case was still ongoing. Detectives believe that there may be other victims as well. FCSO asks that anyone who may have received inappropriate messages or images from Hix contact its Criminal Investigations Division at 540-422-8650.

Illinois substitute teacher had sex with boy at 'playdates': cops
A perv substitute teacher had sex with an 11-year-old male student during 'play dates' at her house — then blamed the child, telling cops he made advances toward her first, Illinois authorities said. Disgraced sub Alley Bardfield, 34, also exchanged messages and explicit photos with the boy over SnapChat and sent him hundreds of dollars through CashApp over several months, a police statement alleges. The sixth-grade victim's mother discovered $700 in CashApp payments from Bardfield when she checked her son's phone after noticing his behavior had changed following a stayover at the teacher's house in Mount Zion, according to a sworn police statement obtained by WCIA. The substitute teacher invited the boy to multiple 'play dates' at her home in 2023 and then twice in March 2024, during which time the pair had two sexual encounters, according to a lawsuit filed by the child's parents and seen by WCIA. The 34-year-old woman faces up to 40 years in prison. WANDTV In a police interview, the disgraced educator claimed the child had made sexual advances toward her first the night they had sex, WICS reported. She was fired by Decatur Public Schools when the abuse came to light in April last year. The pervert appeared in court in Macon County on Thursday for a disposition hearing at which she reached a partial plea deal with prosecutors. Bardfield faces up to 40 years in prison, although the exact sentence has not been agreed upon yet. Predatory criminal sexual assault is punishable by up to 60 years in prison, but the state agreed to cap its recommended sentence for Bardfield to 40 years as part of the plea deal. She will be sentenced Sept. 25.

Pervy youth pastor allegedly sexted 15-year-old girls — even while on phone with his wife
A pervy youth pastor is accused of posing as a teenage boy to exchange nude photos with young girls — even while on the phone with his wife, according to court documents. Jacob Ryan Barnett, a married dad known as Pastor Jake to churchgoers at the Catawba Valley Baptist Church in Virginia, 'repeatedly asked' a 15-year-old girl last month for photos of her privates as he told her it's 'time for her to see her first d–k,' according to court documents obtained by The Independent. 'I don't know if im readyyyy im only 15 and I barely know anything abt that whole topiccc,' the girl responded — just for the pastor to allegedly send her a nude photo of himself anyway. Barnett, the 34-year-old father of a 2-year-old son, had messaged young girls on social media pretending to be a 17-year-old boy named 'Jodie Johnson,' according to the complaint. 3 Youth pastor Jacob Ryan Barnett allegendly pretending to be a 17-year-old boy and pestered teen girls for nude photographs. Catawba Valley Baptist Church The mother of a different 15-year-old girl, 'M.V.,' notified the FBI in May after she went through her daughter's phone and found an explicit conversation between the teen and 'Johnson,' in which the teen sent several nude photos and a video days earlier, according to the federal probable cause affidavit. The mom searched 'Johnson's' number — and realized it belonged to 'a grown man named Jacob Barnett,' the docs detailed. On at least two occasions, Barnett spoke with that girl while talking to his wife. 3 Barnett was a pastor at the Catawba Valley Baptist Church in rural Virginia. Google Maps On May 19, Barnett messaged the teen at 4:30 p.m., answered a call from his wife two minutes later — and then the victim sent the pastor several photos at 4:33 p.m. Barnett responded a minute later. 'In other words, within less than five minutes, Barnett messaged M.V., talked to his wife for a minute, and messaged M.V. again,' the affidavit states. The following day, Barnett messaged the victim at 10:34 a.m., answered a call from his wife a minute later — and then the teen messaged Barnett while he was still talking to his wife, according to court documents. 3 Barnett, 34, is facing up to life in prison if convicted. Catawba County Detention Facility Barnett messaged the other 15-year-old accuser over Snapchat in July, tellign her it was 'was time to see her first d–k,' according to the affidavit. Despite her protests, he sent her a nude photo of himself. She ultimately sent Barnett multiple photos of herself. Agents were unable to view them because they were either encrypted or deleted but determined they were nudes based on the sexual context of the conversation, authorities said. Barnett was arrested in North Carolina on Wednesday and is charged with attempted coercion and enticement of a minor. If convicted, he faces up to life in prison.
