Ben Sulayem says Saudi Arabia has played major part in giving Arab world long-term F1 future - Middle East Business News and Information
Dubai , UAE, 16th April, 2025: Mohammed Ben Sulayem, President of the Fédération Internationale de l'Automobile (FIA), today hailed Saudi Arabia's part in giving the Middle East an important place, and a long-term future, in the FIA Formula 1 World Championship.
Eagerly looking forward to attending Sunday's Formula 1 STC Saudi Arabian Grand Prix, the fifth round of the 2025 championship taking place at the Jeddah Corniche Circuit, Ben Sulayem says the Kingdom has quickly made a major impact since its introduction in 2021.
'The race, and its spectacular venue in Jeddah, have added their own distinctive character and fascination to the sport's global appeal, and reinforced the country's status as a world-class location for motorsport,' said Ben Sulayem.
'In recent years, the region's engagement with Formula 1 has evolved from hosting races to fostering a passionate fan base and promoting inclusivity within the sport, something which is central to the FIA's strategy for motor sport growth and development.
'The surge in F1 popularity in the Arab world has been particularly strong among younger demographics and female fans, especially in Saudi Arabia, where we see strong efforts to encourage the active involvement of young Saudis at all levels of motorsport. This is a process which is vital to ensure motorsport sustainability, and a long-term F1 future, in Saudi Arabia, and the Middle East as a whole.'
Added Ben Sulayem: 'We have not seen an F1 driver emerge from the region yet, but that may be a matter of time as more young candidates take to the track and the Arab world looks to play an increasingly influential role in F1, and the overall global motorsport landscape.'

As the first of its kind in the Arab world, the Barakah nuclear plant consists of four units, producing 40 terawatt-hours of electricity annually - enough to power 16 million electric vehicles. This makes the plant the largest contributor to carbon footprint reduction in the country and the region. The plant can currently meet up to 25% of the UAE's electricity needs without carbon emissions, preventing 22.4 million tons of carbon emissions from being produced annually. This is equivalent to removing 4.6 million cars from the roads each year. Additionally, the Barakah plants offer significant and diverse economic returns, as the natural gas consumption for power generation in Abu Dhabi has reached its lowest level in 13 years despite increasing demand, due to the substantial contribution of the Barakah plants.

The McLaren W1 will make its public debut in the Americas at Exotics on Broadway on Saturday, August 16th. It will be joined by McLaren's newest special edition, the McLaren 750S Le Mans and a special States of Endurance Artura Spider. 'Monterey Car Week is always a great opportunity for us to engage with clients, prospects and enthusiasts alike. To that end, we're thrilled to take the McLaren W1 to 'Exotics on Broadway,' where fans will be able to see it on display for the first time publicly in the Americas. The W1 is a very special supercar, tied to McLaren's World Championship mindset in Formula 1. The 750S Le Mans and the 'States of Endurance' Artura Spider both also tie into McLaren's storied motorsports history. McLaren W1: Americas Debut The McLaren W1 made its global debut in October 2024 and will be seen publicly for the first time in the Americas during Monterey Car Week. The W1 is the ground-breaking successor to two of the greatest supercars of all time – the McLaren F1 and McLaren P1TM – and opens a new chapter in McLaren's famous '1' car lineage. Featuring a V8 hybrid powertrain with 1,275PS – the highest power output of any McLaren ever and greater than all core competitors – the W1 is the fastest-accelerating and fastest-lapping road-legal McLaren ever, achieving the astonishing combination of being quicker than a Speedtail to 300km/h (186mph) in a straight-line and 3 seconds a lap ahead of a McLaren Senna on McLaren's reference track. Full information on the McLaren W1 can be found here. 750S Le Mans: Celebrating 30 Years Since Victory Also on display for the first time in the Americas is the McLaren 750S Le Mans, a special edition 750S coupe celebrating the 30th anniversary of McLaren's 24 Hours of Le Mans win in 1995. Paying homage to the iconic #59 F1 GTR, the 750S Le Mans is offered with a Le Mans Grey exterior paint – the option of McLaren Orange is also available – and features a roof scoop and 5-spoke LM wheels. More exciting is the McLaren Special Operations (MSO) High Downforce Kit (HDK), which adds visual drama to the 750S with a raised carbon fibre Active Rear Spoiler featuring integral endplates. The front bumper features an enlarged carbon fibre splitter, increasing downforce by 10 percent compared to the standard 750S, enhancing track performance and echoing the famous McLaren F1 LM edition's aerodynamic additions. States of Endurance : A Coast-to-Coast Tribute The weekend will also serve as a launch pad for States of Endurance, a celebration of the 30th anniversary of McLaren's 1995 Le Mans victory that will see road cars – the McLaren Artura Spider and McLaren 750S – drive across the country from Monterey to Miami, roughly the distance covered in the 24hour race, with a variety of stops and engagements along the way. FIA President Ben Sulayem welcomes globally recognised academic in move boosting Federation's expertise in field of environmental sustainability Dubai, UAE, 7th August, 2025: Mohammed Ben Sulayem, President of the Fédération Internationale de l'Automobile (FIA), the global governing body for motor sport and the federation for mobility organisations worldwide, has welcomed the appointment of Dr. Madeleine Orr as Visiting Professor at the FIA University. A globally recognised academic working at the intersection of sport and climate change, Dr. Orr's appointment bolsters the Federation's expertise in the field of environmental sustainability and furthers the FIA's commitment to improve sustainable practices across motor sport and mobility. Dr. Orr brings deep interdisciplinary expertise, with a PhD in Kinesiology (emphasis in Sport Management), Master's degrees in both Natural Resource Science and International Event Management, and a strong record of published research and industry engagement. She has been recognised by Forbes 30 Under 30 , Corporate Knights , and other international organisations for her contributions to sustainability and sport. Her recently published book, WARMING UP, examines how climate change is impacting sport, and how the sports world can fight back. This appointment reflects the FIA's commitment to drive innovation and data-led thought leadership in sustainability, not only within sport but also across the wider automotive industry.
