OIC Announces Its Stance on Plans to Displace Palestinians - Jordan News

Jordan News08-03-2025
The final statement of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) meeting emphasized the absolute rejection and firm opposition to plans aimed at displacing Palestinians. It also referenced the adoption of the Egyptian plan for the early recovery and reconstruction of the Gaza Strip. اضافة اعلان The statement condemned Israeli attacks on Syria and incursions into its territories. In detail, the emergency ministerial meeting of the OIC, held on Friday evening, adopted the Arab plan for the reconstruction of Gaza, prepared by Egypt, and reiterated its absolute rejection of plans to displace Palestinians. The final statement of the meeting, hosted in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, on Friday, called on the international community and regional and international financing institutions to promptly provide the necessary support for the plan. It also emphasized the importance of launching a political consensus track to achieve a permanent and just solution that fulfills the legitimate aspirations of the Palestinian people in establishing their own state. The meeting also condemned Israeli attacks on Syria and its incursions into its land in its final statement. Egyptian Foreign Minister, بدر عبد العاطي, praised the OIC meeting for adopting the Arab plan. He stated in comments after the meeting that the next step is for "the plan to become an international plan, through adoption by the European Union and international parties such as Japan, Russia, China, and others." He stressed that "this is what we will strive for, and we are in contact with all parties, including the U.S." Last Tuesday evening, the emergency Arab summit on Palestine in Cairo emphasized, in its final statement, the utmost priority to complete the implementation of the ceasefire agreement in Gaza, leading to a permanent halt to Israeli aggression on Gaza and the complete withdrawal of Israel from the area. The summit adopted a plan prepared by Egypt for the reconstruction of Gaza without displacing Palestinians, spanning five years at a cost of $53 billion. However, Israel and the United States rejected the plan and insisted on following the plan of former U.S. President Donald Trump.
Since January 25, last year, Trump has been promoting a plan to displace Palestinians from Gaza to neighboring countries such as Egypt and Jordan, which both countries have rejected, with other Arab countries and regional and international organizations also joining in the opposition. (Al Jazeera)

Chances of Gaza ceasefire, captive deal increasing, says 'Israeli' Chief of Staff

'Israeli' Chief of Staff Eyal Zamir said on Sunday that the likelihood of reaching a ceasefire in Gaza and a captive release agreement is increasing, amid ongoing indirect negotiations with Hamas. During a visit to troops in Gaza, Halevi said the army's battlefield achievements in 'Operation Gideon's Chariots' are pushing Hamas closer to defeat and creating conditions for a potential deal on captives. 'For months, indirect negotiations between 'Israel' and Hamas have been underway in Doha, seeking a 60-day ceasefire and the release of hostages. Mediators from Qatar, Egypt, and the US are involved,' he noted, adding that recent 'Israeli' media reports have hinted at progress, though no breakthrough appears imminent. Halevi also stated that the army is prepared for all scenarios. 'We will adopt new operational models to boost our strengths, reduce vulnerabilities, and deepen our gains in the field,' he said.

Palestinian Authority faces unprecedented financial, economic siege: Abbas

Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas confirmed that the Palestinian National Authority is currently subjected to an unprecedented financial and economic siege due to the withholding of Palestinian tax revenues, which exceed two billion dollars, by the Israeli ×ccupation government. President Abbas called on the international community to intervene immediately to halt what he described as a "crime of starvation" and emphasized the urgent need to deliver food and medical aid to Gaza. He also stressed the importance of international action to stop the ongoing aggression against the Palestinian people in Gaza, to end settler terrorism, and to halt attacks on Christian and Islamic holy sites in the West Bank, including Jerusalem. Abbas added that the world has been urged to pressure the Israeli government to release the withheld funds and lift the siege imposed on the Palestinian people. He affirmed that the Palestinian Authority will not succumb to the systematic measures employed by the Israeli Occupation aimed at undermining the two-state solution and preventing the establishment of an independent Palestinian state.

Netanyahu's testimony canceled after food poisoning day before hearings

The Jerusalem District Court has canceled Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's scheduled testimony in his ongoing corruption trial, citing his current bout of food poisoning. The hearings, originally set for Monday and Tuesday, will not be rescheduled this week and have been deferred until after the court's summer recess, which ends on September 5. Netanyahu's lawyer, Amit Hadad, submitted a request to delay this week's hearings after the prime minister fell ill Sunday night. While the State Attorney's Office agreed to postpone the sessions and proposed alternative dates for Wednesday and Thursday, the court cited scheduling conflicts and opted to cancel the hearings altogether. This marks yet another delay in Netanyahu's testimony, which began in December 2024. Previous postponements have been attributed to medical issues, the war in Gaza, operations against Iran, international trips, and his responsibilities as head of government. During the summer recess, 'Israeli' courts operate with limited activity, meaning Netanyahu will not return to the witness stand until at least September.
