Organized by LuskinOIC Athletic Trainer, Joanna Stover, the live virtual series allows participants to address the gaps in training and reinforces existing knowledge of musculoskeletal conditions, diagnosis, and treatment.

The mini-series offers low-cost Continuing Education Units (CEU) credits for Secondary School Trainers (3-4 CEU's) for certified athletic trainers.

2025 FIDE World Schools Team Championship & Smart Moves Summit Have Come to a Thrilling End! The USA Team is Among the Winners!
NEW CITY, NEW YORK / / August 7, 2025 / Young chess minds competed and collaborated at the 2025 FIDE World Schools Team Championship and Smart Moves Summit in the U.S. from August 2 to 7, 2025. The event was held at the historic Episcopal High School in Alexandria, just outside Washington, D.C. The championship became the global center of youth chess and brought together school teams from 50 countries, offering a week of competition, dialogue, and shared ideas about the future of chess in education. The chess tournament It was held from August 3 to 6 and culminated in strong performances from all participants. The winning teams are: 1st Place - Velammal MHS School, India 2nd Place - National School of Physics and Mathematics, Kazakhstan 3rd Place - The Harker School, United State The championship was organized by the International School Chess Federation (ISCF) under the auspices of FIDE, and sponsored by Freedom Holding Corp. and its CEO Timur Turlov, who is also the head of ISCF. Smart Moves Summit In parallel with the championship, the Smart Moves Summit (August 4-5) featured speakers from the worlds of education, sports, and technology, as well as grand chess masters. On the first day, sessions explored how chess supports academic success and personal growth in school-age children. The second day focused on practical strategies for integrating chess into national curricula, with input from educators and government officials. Timur Turlov, CEO of Freedom Holding Corp. and President of the International School Chess Federation, used the summit to advocate for systemic change: "A chessboard is a very good test for all of us and it's also very good training. We launched this initiative of chess at school in Kazakhstan and actually already implemented this program in more than 500 schools all around the country and expect to roll out another 700 schools next year. We believe that maybe this could be one of the solutions that can help our kids to better adapt to this fast-moving world. Because the world will continue to change, and the speed of these changes will continue to accelerate." Timur Turlov, the driving force behind this event and the sponsor of numerous chess championships around the world, organized several world championships. For example, last year Freedom Holding Corp. brought high-level events like the Chess and Finance Conference Wall Street Gambit at last year's FIDE World Rapid & Blitz Championship in NYC. The championship in Alexandria became yet another step toward Turlov's goal to integrate chess into children's lives and connect young players from different cultures to collaborate. Arkady Dvorkovich, president of FIDE, praised the initiative, noting: "When I think about the events which took place over the past few days, I feel a profound sense of hope. Thanks to the initiative and generous support of Timur Turlov and Freedom Holding, we have started a new chapter for chess. This project is about more than just games - it's about making chess a fundamental part of education for every child and young person." Congressman Jamie Raskin (Maryland) gave a speech on the first day of the summit, thanked Arkady Dvorkovich and Timur Turlov, and emphasized the role of chess in non-violent conflict resolution. "I think that chess can be a major part of the solution to the problems that beset humanity right now. And I think that chess can play a critical role in making sure that we make the right choices in favor of critical thinking, in favor of strategic planning, in favor of nonviolent and diplomatic resolution," said Mr. Raskin. Speaker sessions Notable speakers from around the globe gave talks on different topics of their specialization. FIDE Deputy Chair Dana Reizniece, the President of the International School Chess Federation Timur Turlov, Dr. Bill Poucher, Steinar Sæthre, Omoboye Odu, and other professionals associated with chess gave speeches on the importance of integrating chess into the school curriculum. Obama Foundation Future Series brings Chicago high schoolers into conversation with variety of accomplished leaders
The Obama Foundation's Future Series is a program that brings Chicago high schoolers into intimate conversations with accomplished leaders from a wide variety of industries and careers. It started with a simple idea: Michelle Obama was talking to students at Hyde Park Career Academy when she realized they needed to hear from successful people in person. She wanted to bring those people to the school, which is across the street from the new Obama Center. "You can't be it if you can't see it," noted Mike Strautmanis, the chief corporate affairs officer for the Obama Foundation. "The idea is to bring people from different walks of life and give students and opportunity to have an intimate conversation with them." And these people are very accomplished. They have included Chicago Bears president Kevin Warren and rap star Megan Thee Stallion. Now the events aren't confined to school walls; students get to see real work in places like O'Hare Airport. Stratumanis knows these types of interactions work, because it worked for him long before the Future Series started. "I went to law school in part because some lawyers came to my high school," he said. "I didn't know any lawyers, and a couple of them looked like me and I started to think this is something I can do." Rayshawn Blackman is in the middle of a similar journey. He went to Future Series events throughout his high school career, and it helped him through some tough times. "From freshman year, I started to experience deaths. And then junior year my mom passed and she left three babies," he said. "I didn't know who to go to, who to talk to. I got a mental blockage where I was depressed." But the program showed him he had a bright future. "For me, it's living proof. If I'm in the room with someone of that caliber, I can be a person of that caliber," Blackman said. Hyde Park principal Dr. Rosette Edinburg has seen the program's effects on many students like Blackman. "It negates the belief that where you are born determines who you will be," she said. And now the Future Series is moving beyond Hyde Park Career Academy. "We need to have students from all over the city have these experiences, and they can do it at the Obama Center," said Strautmanis. "We'll have places for people to come where they can meet people they admire in their careers."

Picture this: Sportsnet host's selfie challenge fuels dreams for Indigenous students
Sports broadcaster deepens six‑year commitment to Matawa First Nations communities Sportsnet host Jamie Campbell has spent years telling stories from the ballpark. Now, he's using the spotlight to help write a different kind of story by means of a unique fundraiser. Campbell invited fans at the Blue Jays game on Aug. 2 to line up for a photo opportunity on the Sportsnet set at Rogers Centre. Instead of charging for pictures, he handed out cards with information on how to donate to the Jamie Campbell Bursary, a fund supporting students from Matawa First Nations across northern Ontario. "My kids got to walk to their public schools for the entirety of their public school careers," Campbell said in an interview with Yahoo News Canada. "For so many First Nations students, that's just not a reality." The broadcaster has worked with Matawa since 2020, when a volunteer trip delivering PPE during the pandemic introduced him to the organization, which represents nine remote First Nations communities. "I have personally witnessed the benefit of this financial assistance," said Campbell. "There are students at Matawa First Nations getting an opportunity to achieve things that will resonate within their communities long-term." For many Matawa youth, continuing school means leaving home for Thunder Bay as early as age 12, a move Campbell says is frightening for many. His goal, he says, is "to do what I can do, whatever that might be, to make the path to completing an education easier.' The bursary has been in place for nearly six years, but Campbell said attending Matawa's graduation ceremony in June deepened his commitment. 'It was an eye-opener for me to be able to see the impact,' he said. The impact of the bursuries can be seen in students like one recent graduate who is pursuing welding. Campbell recalled being gifted an intricate metal sculpture by the young man. 'This young man has incredible talent … and it's very, very likely that he succeeds.' Asked what he would say directly to a student receiving support from the bursary, Campbell didn't hesitate. 'If you're a dreamer and you have ambition, you can do almost anything you want in this lifetime. Don't limit yourself," the sports broadaster shares.' Campbell says the Saturday photo session went as planned and over the span of 40 minutes, raised over $1,600.00 geared for Matawa First Nations. "I'm incredibly grateful to those who donated, and to the Sportsnet and Blue Jays staff who stuck around to ensure it went smoothly," said Campbell.
