A labourer was sentenced to 18 months in jail by the Magistrate's Court, here, for committing mischief by smashing the front glass sliding door of a police station.
KOTA BHARU - A labourer was sentenced to 18 months in jail by the Magistrate's Court, here, for committing mischief by smashing the front glass sliding door of a police station.
The accused, Nik Mohadi Ahmad, 39, pleaded guilty to the charge before Magistrate Rais Imran Hamid.
According to the charge, he was accused of breaking the front glass sliding door at the Ketereh police station complaint counter, causing an estimated loss of RM200. The incident occurred at 1.02pm on May 16.
The charge was framed under Section 427 of the Penal Code, which provides for a jail term of one to five years, a fine, or both, upon conviction.
Deputy public prosecutor Ahmad Naabil Mohamed Asri urged the court to impose a proportionate sentence as a lesson to the accused, citing public interest, since the damage involved government property.
The court then sentenced Nik Mohadi, who was unrepresented, to 18 months imprisonment, to run consecutively after he completes his current sentence under the same section, which began on July 7, and is set to end on April 22 next year.
He is currently serving a jail sentence for committing mischief by damaging property at his uncle's house. - BERNAMA

The prosecution was conducted by deputy public prosecutor Ahmad Naabil Mohamed Asri, while the accused was represented by lawyer Muhamad Fiqri Muhamad. Magistrate Rais Imran Mohd Yusaini granted bail of RM5,000 with additional conditions, namely that the accused must not approach or disturb the victim or prosecution witnesses until the case is concluded. Decision on Zayn Rayyan neglect case to be known tomorrow
KUALA LUMPUR: The decision on whether Zayn Rayyan Abdul Matin's parents, Zaim Ikhwan Zahari and Ismanira Abdul Manaf, will be called to defend themselves or acquitted by the Petaling Jaya Sessions Court on charges of neglecting the six-year-old autistic child to the point of causing physical harm to him, will be known tomorrow. Judge Dr Syahliza Warnoh is scheduled to give the decision at the end of the prosecution case at 9am. If the court decides that the prosecution has succeeded in proving a prima facie case against Ismanira and Zaim Ikhwan, then they will be called to defend themselves, while if not, the two accused will be released and acquitted of the charges. On April 24, the prosecution closed the case after calling 28 prosecution witnesses throughout the 20-day trial which began on Feb 4. Among the prosecution witnesses called to testify were the first person to find Zayn Rayyan's body, Faizul Najib Abd Munaim, Auni Afiqah Abas who was Zayn Rayyan's caregiver, forensic medical consultant Dr Rohayu Shahar Adnan, three investigating officers and two 10-year-old child witnesses. The prosecution was conducted by Deputy Public Prosecutor Raja Zaizul Faridah Raja Zaharudin, Aqharie Durranie Aziz and Nur Sabrina Zubairi, while lawyers Haresh Mahadevan, Ramzani Idris and Lavanesh Haresh represented both accused. Zaim Ikhwan and Ismanira, both aged 30, were charged with neglecting Zayn Rayyan in a manner likely to cause physical harm to the victim in the vicinity of Block R, Idaman Apartment, Damansara Damai up to the nearby river area between noon on Dec 5 and 9.55pm on Dec 6, 2023. They were charged under Section 31(1)(a) of the Child Act 2001 read with Section 34 of the Penal Code which carries a maximum sentence of 20 years imprisonment or a fine of RM50,000 or both, if convicted. Zayn Rayyan, 6, was reported missing on Dec 5, 2023 and his body was found the next day in a stream near his house. – Bernama

5 cops reassigned pending probe into extortion case involving Taiwanese woman
KUALA LUMPUR: Police have opened a disciplinary investigation against five policemen suspected of extorting a Taiwanese woman during a recent incident in SS2, Petaling Jaya. Petaling Jaya district police chief ACP Shahrulnizam Jaafar said they had previously been detained, but their remand application was rejected by the court. "The case is being investigated under Section 384 of the Penal Code, and a disciplinary file has also been opened for a parallel investigation. "For now, all five policemen have been reassigned to other duties pending the outcome of the investigation," he said when contacted today. A local media reported that a Taiwanese woman alleged on social media that she had been extorted by policeman during a roadblock in SS2, Petaling Jaya on July 7. Shahrulnizam said initial investigations showed the incident occurred during a surprise roadblock operation at the location. He said efforts are ongoing to contact the victim to assist with the investigation. – Bernama
