Three Arabic coffee shops coming to Rochester area
ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WROC) — Three new coffee shops are due to open in the Rochester area this year.
First is an Arabic and Yemeni cafe called 'Layali' in Henrietta. According to their Instagram, this new place will offer authentic Arabic coffee — called qahwah — that is imported from Yemen They will also offer chai, and some sweet treats, complete with a drive-through.
Layali plans to open in the next two weeks, and the team is looking to add more area locations.
Coming to Henrietta: Layali Coffee House
An unrelated Arabic and Yemeni coffee shop is coming to Rochester's East End, Albunn. It's across the street from Veneto.
According to their job portal, they look to bring the rich and traditional flavors of Yemen to Rochester.
Albunn plans to open in April.
Also in Rochester in the UR-owned development, College Town, is Mocha Coffee is set to open 'soon.' It's in the back end of the building with TaiChi.
Mocha is slated to serve hot coffee drinks and more and is part of the Bayt al Mocha brand of cafes. News 8 has reached out for an opening timeframe and hasn't heard back yet.

Black Greek groups honored for service and mentorship in Rochester
ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WROC) — Friday, U-Prep Charter School hosted a special luncheon honoring the presidents and immediate past presidents at Divine Nine and National Pen-Hellenic Council Organizations. University Preparatory is a charter school for young men and the luncheon recognizes Black Greek leadership in fraternities and sororities, as well as their service and commitment. 'All of the organizations have components of mentorship, service and really just uplifting the community of Rochester and as you all know, we need that,' U-Prep Chief Operations & Chief Finance Officer Dr. Cam Lewis said. 'So, we're all doing the same work, it's not a competition, it's really about doing the work of your chapter and working together to do some bigger productions.' We do a lot of work and often we do the work and you don't really think about what you're doing because you're just here to serve the community,' Kimberly Brown said. 'So, to know that people notice and that it's not just thankless work, it is very encouraging and motivating.'
