Monsoon session: Centre open to Operation Sindoor debate, says Rijiju; impeachment motion against Justice Varma picks up steam
Kiren Rijiju
on Sunday said the government is open to discussing key issues like
Operation Sindoor
in the upcoming Monsoon Session of Parliament, provided discussions are held in accordance with the "rules and traditions" of the House.
'There are several issues that parties have expressed interest in discussing in Parliament. We are ready for discussions with an open heart. We work as per rules and tradition and hold these in great value. So, we will discuss every issue, but as per rules and tradition,' Rijiju said after an all-party meeting.
'Fifty-four members participated in the all-party meeting today. It was a very positive session. All party leaders gave their inputs, and we have noted them.
We have requested everyone to ensure the session is conducted successfully. It is important to run Parliament peacefully and productively. We may belong to different parties and ideologies, but it is our collective responsibility to run the House effectively,' he added.
Rijiju also called for government-opposition coordination to ensure smooth functioning of the session and reiterated that the Centre "will respond appropriately" if the opposition raises the issue of US President Donald Trump's claims on Operation Sindoor.

'This is a very welcome suggestion. The all-party delegations to various countries after Operation Sindoor were well-received and effective. All those valuable experiences should be shared with the nation,' he said.
While briefing the media, Rijiju also said a consensus had been reached on initiating the impeachment process against Justice Yashwant Varma. He claimed that the number of MPs who had signed the motion for his removal had already crossed 100.
'In the Justice Varma case, the process will be undertaken collectively by all parties. This is not a government-only move,' Rijiju said.
'I cannot comment on any business priority because, unless the matter is passed by the BAC (Business Advisory Committee) with the Chair's approval, I cannot make an announcement outside... The signatures are being collected and have already crossed 100,' he added.
This comes as the Monsoon Session of Parliament is set to begin from Monday. The session is expected to be stormy, with the opposition's INDIA bloc and the BJP-led government preparing to clash on several issues.
The opposition has demanded discussions on the Pahalgam terror attack, Operation Sindoor, and what it calls a 'drift' in foreign policy, insisting that Prime Minister Narendra Modi should personally respond to these debates.

India must shun lethargy to take global leadership role: Ram Madhav
BJP senior leader and author Ram Madhav on Sunday emphasised the need for India to assert its role in the new world order by shunning its lethargic approach to global issues. Participating in a discussion after launching his book 'The New World: 21st Century Global Order and India' at a hotel here on Sunday, he observed that India had failed to play a significant role in the world order since its independence in 1947. 'There is confusion all around, and India must understand where the world is going,' he said and stressed that becoming a 'Vishwa Guru' requires more than just romantic notions to play a role in the global order. Finding fault with the nation's lethargic attitude towards the changes, instead of craving for a seat in the UNSC, Mr. Madhav suggested that India should focus on building regional multilateralism in its extended neighbourhood in the Indian Ocean, given the failure of global agencies like the UN. He mentioned that he had made these suggestions in his book, which explores the rise and fall of great powers and the international orders they create. The book addresses pressing concerns, including the rise of China, the decline of global multilateralism, the impact of Artificial Intelligence and the challenges posed by demographics and climate change. The discussion was organised by the Forum for Nationalist Thinkers, Hyderabad, in association with BEST Innovation University. Former Ambassador to Russia Venkatesh Varma, Krishnadeva Rao, Vice-Chancellor of NALSAR, Rupa Vasudevan, Vice-Chancellor of BEST Innovation University, and senior journalist Uma Sudhir participated in the discussion.

Police recover stolen tractor from Hry after Cong MLA's complaint
1 2 Jaipur: Nearly two weeks after a tractor trolley was allegedly stolen from the residence of Dausa Congress MLA Deen Dayal Bairwa in Dausa, police recovered the vehicle from Haryana Saturday. A car used by the suspects involved in the theft was also seized, but the thieves managed to escape and have not yet been arrested. Police searched for the tractor trolley after the legislator took to X on July 7 and claimed that he was targeted by thieves three times in a month. Bairwa said that first his mobile phone was stolen, then a motorcycle from his home, and finally, a tractor trolley was taken. A police officer, however, clarified that the MLA was not the owner of the tractor trolley and it was not parked inside his residence. "The tractor belonged to Fateh Singh Gurjar, a resident of the Bassi area in Jaipur. He filed a complaint about the vehicle theft that occurred on July 6, after which teams were formed to trace it," the officer said. According to police, CCTV footage and technical investigation helped track the vehicle to Palwal district in Haryana. Raids were carried out at the location where the tractor trolley was being hidden, but the suspects managed to escape. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like American Investor Warren Buffett Recommends: 5 Books For Turning Your Life Around Blinkist: Warren Buffett's Reading List Undo A car was seized from the spot during the operation. The officer added that the MLA had no direct connection with the theft other than the fact that it occurred near his residence. Following the series of incidents, Bairwa posted on X, writing, "In Dausa, thieves are becoming more daring, and the police seem to be just a name. The theft of my mobile on June 11, the motorcycle from my residence on June 14, and now the tractor trolley last night raises questions about law and order. I urge the police to take swift action." After Bairwa's post, former chief minister Ashok Gehlot and Leader of Opposition Tikaram Jully also criticised the state govt over the situation.

Assembly getting digital-ready for monsoon session
New Delhi: The monsoon session of Delhi Assembly is likely in the first week of Aug, with preparations under way for a digitally enabled House. A week-long session has been proposed, officials said. Ahead of it, the assembly will launch a three-day digital training programme for MLAs from July 21, aimed at familiarising them with National e-Vidhan Application (NeVA). Speaker Vijender Gupta will inaugurate the NeVA Training Centre at the Vidhan Sabha Complex. Expert trainers from ministry of parliamentary affairs (MoPA) will conduct the sessions from July 21–23, equipping legislators for paperless, efficient governance. "Digital transformation is no longer a choice but a necessity for people-centric legislation," Gupta said. You Can Also Check: Delhi AQI | Weather in Delhi | Bank Holidays in Delhi | Public Holidays in Delhi A key agenda item for the session is a bill to regulate private school fees, based on an ordinance cleared by the Cabinet on April 29. The draft proposes strict penalties — ranging from Rs 1 lakh to Rs 10 lakh — for arbitrary fee hikes, and mandates refunds within 20 working days. Repeated violations could result in the school losing its right to propose fee revisions. If the refund isn't processed on time, the fine will double after 20 days, triple after 40, and continue to rise with every 20-day delay. Those repeatedly flouting norms may be barred from holding official posts in school management. The school may also forfeit its authority to revise fees. The ordinance aims to "strike a balance between preserving the autonomy of private institutions and safeguarding the rights of parents", while ensuring quality education remains "accessible and fairly priced". It also proposes setting up three committees — at the school, district, and revision levels— with the 'Revision Committee' holding final authority on disputes. The session is also expected to see the opposition AAP cornering BJP on civic issues, including waterlogging, Yamuna pollution, and drinking water supply. Officials said the NeVA training will serve as a precursor to the session, enabling paperless functioning and promoting transparency, efficiency, and sustainability. Eighteen computers have been installed at the new NeVA Training Centre. The first batch of MLAs will begin training on Monday. The launch reflects Delhi Assembly's push toward "modern, accountable, and citizen-centric legislative practices," Gupta said.
