UK Reveals Deadly Reason Why Putin Wants Ukraine To Hand Over Unoccupied Land To End War

The Ministry of Defence has revealed why Vladimir Putin wants Ukraine to hand over large swathes of its unoccupied land to end the war. In its latest intelligence update on the conflict, the MoD said Russia would be forced to fight for more than four years and suffer nearly two million casualties if it had to fight for it. The analysis came as Putin set out his peace plans at a summit with Donald Trump in Alaska. According to the Reuters news agency, the proposed deal would see Ukraine fully withdraw from the eastern Donetsk and Luhansk regions in return for a Russian pledge to freeze the front lines in the southern regions of Kherson and Zaporizhzhia. But the MoD said: 'Based on the rate of Russia's incremental battlefield advances so far in 2025, it would take Russian forces approximately 4.4 more years to gain 100% of the four Ukrainian oblasts' territory. 'Based on Russia's average daily casualty rate in 2025 so far, as reported by Ukrainian general staff, 4.4 more years of war would lead to approximately 1,930,000 further Russian casualties (killed and wounded). 'This is in addition to the approximately 1,060,000 casualties Russia has already likely sustained since launching the full-scale invasion of Ukraine in 2022, including around 250,000 killed or missing (presumed dead).' After his talks with Putin, Trump told Fox News: 'I think we're pretty close to a deal. Ukraine has to agree to it. Maybe they'll say 'no'.' But speaking following talks with European Commission president Ursula von der Leyen in Brussels today, Ukrainian president Volodymyr Zelenskyy said: 'The constitution of Ukraine makes it impossible to give up territory or trade land. ' He said any such moves would need to be discussed at a three-way summit involving him, Putin and Trump. Von der Leyen, also insisted that 'international borders cannot be changed by force'. Gold Edges Lower Amid Prospects of Easing Geopolitical Tensions

2351 GMT — Gold edges lower in the early Asian session amid prospects of easing geopolitical tensions that typically reduce the safe-haven appeal of the precious metal. Although Friday's meeting between U.S. President Trump and Russian President Putin ended without any breakthrough, Trump told European leaders that he was open to offering U.S. security guarantees to Ukraine, according to several European officials. Trump said Putin had accepted that any peace in the Russia-Ukraine conflict would need to include the presence of Western troops in Ukraine. Spot gold is 0.2% lower at $3,327.58/oz. (

Trump ‘bela' post is new ‘covfefe,' stirs Newsom into action

A key meeting on the Russia-Ukraine war is set for Monday. Erin has been downgraded to a tropical storm but could still cause danger. But some on the internet want to know what Trump was talking about with his 'bela' post. Trump at 8:31 a.m. on Sunday posted the one-word message on his Truth Social media account. The word means beautiful in Italian if spelled with a double L, as 'bella.' Perhaps the president was looking at something, outside or on television, that sparked him to send the message. Whatever it was, it had a number of notables weighing in. Trump and California Gov. Gavin Newsom have been feuding, and the Democrat's press office took the occasion to argue it is winning. 'We broke Donald Trump,' Newsom's press office wrote in response to the 'bela' post. In an earlier post, Newsom's office took more shots at Trump, seemingly inviting the president into an online fight with shots at his 'tiny hands.' The Lincoln Project, the conservative group that opposes Trump and is active on social media, wrote that Trump had dropped the new 'Covfefe.' Trump, during his first term, bewildered much of the country back in 2017 with the original covfefe tweet, which was likely a typo of some sort. Back then, the president's musings on Twitter were watched by much of the country and world – perhap more avidly than now. George Conway, the frequent Trump critic, was also reminded of covfefe, writing that bela was a 'blend' of covfefe. Rep. Jared Moskowitz (D-Fla.), responding to the tweet, wrote 'that's what we call Comer,' apparently a reference to the chairman of the House Oversight panel, Rep. James Comer (R-Ky.). Another account suggested a simple explanation. Trump was writing about Belarus, and got cut off with a typo.
