Lakshmi Manchu Questioned In Illegal Betting App Case After Vijay Devarakonda, Rana Daggubati

Last Updated: Actress Manchu Lakshmi appeared before the ED for questioning about promoting illegal betting apps. Actors Prakash Raj, Vijay Deverakonda, and Rana Daggubati were also questioned. Actress Manchu Lakshmi appeared before the Enforcement Directorate (ED) on Wednesday for questioning related to the promotion of illegal betting apps. The ED had recently summoned her as part of an ongoing investigation into alleged money laundering linked to these apps. During the session, officials questioned her about the payments and commissions she reportedly received from endorsing such platforms. Manchu Lakshmi is not the only celebrity under scrutiny; actors Prakash Raj, Vijay Deverakonda, and Rana Daggubati have also been questioned in connection with the case. Prakash Raj revealed he promoted a betting app back in 2016 but did not accept any payment and later distanced himself from it on moral grounds. Vijay Deverakonda maintained that he endorsed a legal gaming app, not a betting platform, and similarly declined payment due to ethical concerns. Rana Daggubati was also questioned regarding his earnings from promoting a betting brand. The ED's probe includes 29 individuals, such as actors and social media influencers, suspected of endorsing illegal betting apps on digital platforms. The agency is investigating the financial transactions and online trails tied to these endorsements to uncover the extent of the operation. Last week, actor Vijay Deverakonda, who is basking in the success of his latest film Kingdom, was summoned by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) as part of the investigation. Officials at the ED's Basheerbagh office in Hyderabad questioned him over promotional contracts with betting apps and the payments tied to those deals. This appearance followed actor Prakash Raj's five-hour session with the ED on July 30. According to Prakash Raj, he did one ad for a gaming app back in 2016 but refused payment. 'I did not take any payment, as my conscience did not allow me to take it," he told the officials during the session. I did only one advertisement for a gaming app, but later realised that I should not have done it." Disclaimer: Comments reflect users' views, not News18's. 'Kingdom' Box Office Collection Day 13: Vijay Deverakonda's spy action thriller mints Rs 51.29 crore domestically

Picture Credit: X Vijay Deverakonda 's spy action thriller 'Kingdom' is facing an underwhelming run at the box office as it completes its second week. Though the film enjoyed decent numbers during its earlier days and opening to promising numbers, it is now facing a sharp decline. On day 13, 'Kingdom' made only around Rs 28 lakh according to early estimates. This is yet another dip from the previous day's Rs 33 lakh. Trade analyst Sacnilk reports 'Kingdom' detailed collection figures as follows: Day 8 brought in Rs 1.2 crore, Day 9 made Rs 1 crore, Day 10 collected Rs 1.25 crore, Day 11 earned Rs 1.08 crore, Day 12 registered Rs 33 lakh, and Day 13 saw Rs 28 lakh. The total box office collection now stands at approximately Rs 51.29 crore across languages. Theatre Occupancy The film recorded an overall Telugu occupancy of 12.46% on Tuesday, August 12, 2025. Morning shows stood at 12.44%, slightly improving to 13.57% in the afternoon. Evening shows saw 12.71% occupancy, before dipping again to 11.10% during night shows. About 'Kingdom' Directed by Gowtam Tinnanuri of 'Jersey' fame, 'Kingdom' follows the story of Surya "Suri," an undercover police constable in Sri Lanka who aims to dismantle a smuggling syndicate while reconnecting with his estranged brother. Despite the film's ambitious premise and Vijay Deverakonda's strong screen presence, it received mixed and decent reviews. Review of the film As Etimes review puts it, "The action in Kingdom is not over the top. Instead, it is functional and well-choreographed, mostly serving the emotional stakes of the story. The film's strength lies in how the physical confrontations and conflicts are grounded in personal choices, with a maturity in the staging—whether it is Suri or Shiva making a pivotal decision. Tinnanuri's control over tone ensures that the story never veers into melodrama or spectacle for its own sake. "
