Northeast holds key for India's $30-trillion vision towards Viksit Bharat: PMO

Hans India28-05-2025
The northeastern region holds the key for India's $30-trillion vision towards Viksit Bharat at 2047, the Prime Minister's Office (PMO) said on Wednesday.
Responding to an X post by Union Minister for Development of North Eastern Region (DoNER), Jyotiraditya Scindia, the PMO said, 'Northeast India is no longer a frontier, it's the front-runner'.
'Union Minister @JM_Scindia pens down a detailed article on the region's rise as a strategic hub for trade, connectivity, and India's $30-trillion vision for Viksit Bharat. Give it a glance,' the PMO said in its tweet.
Earlier, Scindia said that the northeast holds the key to a $30-trillion economy.
'I pen down my article on how the Northeast is transforming into India's strategic gateway to Southeast Asia - powering trade, connectivity, and our $30-trillion ambition towards a Viksit Bharat,' the minister posted.
At the recently concluded 'Rising North East Investors Summit 2025,' Scindia said that the northeastern region has emerged as a hub of global partnership and mutual interest.
The minister informed that the two-day summit drew an unprecedented Rs 4.3 lakh crore investment proposal, setting the stage for the Northeast Region (NER) to become India's next economic powerhouse.
'We will continue B2G and B2B dialogues, where the Ministry for DoNER will act as a bridge between investors and state governments -- to ensure that each approved project translates swiftly into reality,' he assured.
Delegations from over 80 countries -- ranging from Japan to Europe to ASEAN nations -- attended the summit, and there was one unanimous sentiment: India's future lies in the Northeast.
The Centre adopted a 'whole-of-government' approach for the development of the northeastern region and created eight high-level task forces across key sectors: agriculture, sports, investment promotion, tourism, economic corridors, infrastructure, textiles and handicrafts, and animal husbandry, allowing each state to chart its own roadmap.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi has assured that the Northeast now offers top-tier talent across various sectors, encouraging industries and investors to leverage the region's immense potential.

Himachal Pradesh CM concerned over growing natural calamities

Sarkaghat: Expressing concern over the growing impact of global warming and frequent natural calamities in Himachal Pradesh, Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu on Friday unfurled the national flag, inspected the parade and took the salute from an impressive march at the state-level Independence Day function here. The march past was presented by contingents of the police, Home Guards, NCC, ITBP, Uttrakhand Police, Third India Reserve Battalion of Pandoh, Mandi Police, traffic police, ex-servicemen league and Home Guard Band amid heavy rains. Deputy Superintendent of Police Umeshwar Rana commanded the parade. The 79th Independence Day was celebrated across the state with great enthusiasm and gaiety. Functions were held at the district and sub-division levels to commemorate this historic occasion. In his address, the Chief Minister expressed concern over the frequent disasters in the state that have caused heavy losses to life and property. Referring to the 2023 disaster in which the state suffered damages of Rs 10,000 crore, he pointed out that despite the Central government's own assessment, Himachal Pradesh received only Rs 1,500 crore, that too after two years. He said this year's disasters have once again caused severe losses, particularly in Mandi district and the state has not received any financial assistance from the Centre so far. He said the state government has already disbursed Rs 360.42 crore from its resources to aid affected families. He hoped that the Centre would soon extend financial support for the disaster-affected families. CM Sukhu announced to release additional Rs 100 crore for disaster-hit families to provide prompt relief, along with the launch of a Rs 3,000 crore project aimed at disaster mitigation and protecting livelihoods in affected areas. Paying homage to 222 people who lost their lives in this year's disasters, as well as to the eight victims of a bus accident in the Sarkaghat constituency, he assured that the government "stands shoulder to shoulder with every affected family". Under the special relief package, he said compensation for fully damaged houses has been increased from Rs 1.3 lakh to Rs 7 lakh, while for partially damaged houses, it has been raised from Rs 12,500 to Rs 1 lakh. Houses rendered uninhabitable will also be treated as fully damaged for compensation purposes, he added. The Chief Minister expressed concern over the problem of chitta (heroin) and said the government has been making earnest efforts to protect the youth from the drug. "The government has implemented the PIT NDPS Act and seized property worth over Rs 42 crore from drug mafias. The government has made 'chitta' testing mandatory in police recruitment," he said. He also announced the launch of the Anti-Chitta Volunteer Scheme, under which volunteers will be prepared to act as a bridge between the police and the public. These young volunteers will not only help prevent the menace of 'chitta' but will also assist in awareness campaigns and in providing timely confidential information to the police so that strict action can be taken against drug mafias.

‘Roadmap for prosperous India': HM Amit Shah hails PM Modi's I-Day address

New Delhi: Union Home Minister and Minister of Cooperation Amit Shah on Friday termed Prime Minister Narendra Modi's address to the nation on the 79th Independence Day as a roadmap showcasing the progress of the past 11 years, the strength of the present, and the strategy for a prosperous India. Home Minister Shah, in a series of posts on X, said that whether it's the elimination of terrorists through 'Operation Sindoor,' the plan to secure the country's infrastructure through 'Mission Sudarshan Chakra,' or the resolve to create an infiltrator-free India through the 'High-Powered Demography Mission,' the PM Modi-led government is committed to making the nation strong and secure. HM Shah highlighted the government's unwavering commitment to the interests of farmers and hailed PM Modi's call for self-reliance in nuclear energy, critical minerals, energy, the space sector, and jet engines. He said the announcement of the 'Pradhan Mantri Viksit Bharat Rozgar Yojana' and significant GST relief measures during the upcoming Diwali will make the lives of citizens easier and boost small enterprises. HM Shah said that on Independence Day, PM Modi gifted the youth of the nation by announcing the implementation of the 'Pradhan Mantri Viksit Bharat Rozgar Yojana' with a fund of Rs 1 lakh crore. Under this scheme, first-time employees in the private sector will receive Rs 15,000, and companies generating more jobs will also receive incentives. This initiative will benefit approximately 3.5 crore youth, providing a golden opportunity for Indian youth and strengthening the journey toward a self-reliant India. The Home Minister stated that the Modi government is taking robust steps toward a self-reliant India by empowering small businesses. From the ramparts of the Red Fort, PM Modi announced Next Gen GST Reforms as a Diwali gift to the nation. These reforms will not only greatly benefit small industries but also make everyday essentials more affordable, giving a new impetus to the Indian economy. This effort will further strengthen India's economic prowess and significantly contribute to making it the world's third-largest economy, he said. He added that that PM Modi made a historic announcement on Independence Day by launching 'Mission Sudarshan Chakra.' Under this mission, by 2035, critical national sites will be equipped with cutting-edge technology and powerful weapon systems. The mission aims not only to neutralise enemy attacks but also to deliver counter-strikes, much like the Sudarshan Chakra. This step will prove to be a milestone in making national security impregnable and enabling targeted strikes against adversaries. The Union Minister said that in his historic Independence Day address, PM Modi acknowledged the 100-year rich history and contributions of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) to nation-building, paying tribute to all the volunteers who have made unparalleled contributions to the country's 100-year journey of progress. For the past century, the RSS has fulfilled its resolve of nation-building through individual development with service, dedication, organisation, and discipline, he said.

Kerala CM boycotts ‘At Home' called by Guv

Thiruvananthapuram: In a fresh display of the growing rift between Kerala Governor Rajendra V. Arlekar and Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan, the Chief Minister and his Cabinet colleagues on Friday boycotted the traditional 'At-Home' reception hosted by the Governor at Raj Bhavan as part of Independence Day celebrations. Although invitations had been extended to the Chief Minister and all ministers, none of them attended the evening function. The state government was represented only by Chief Secretary The absence of the political leadership is being widely seen as a public reiteration of the ongoing tensions between the Governor and the state administration. The friction between the two sides has sharpened in recent months over multiple issues, most recently, the controversy surrounding a government circular to observe 'Partition Horrors Remembrance Day' and the disputes over temporary appointments of vice-chancellors in state universities. The issue of the appointment is now under the scrutiny of the Supreme Court. Interestingly, the state government had sanctioned an additional Rs 15 lakh for the Governor's reception this year, despite the strained relations. The allocation was made under the 'hospitality expenses' head after relaxing earlier cost-cutting directives. The funds were sanctioned based on a request from the Additional Chief Secretary to the Governor, who sought financial clearance to host prominent citizens and distinguished guests at the Raj Bhavan reception. Sources indicated that the decision to allocate the amount was taken even as the dispute over university appointments was at its peak. The gesture, however, did not translate into political participation, as the Chief Minister and ministers stayed away from the gathering. Traditionally, the Governor's 'At-Home' event is a high-profile social occasion, bringing together senior officials, political leaders, and eminent members of society. The visible absence of the ruling front's top political figures this year underscores the deepening institutional standoff in Kerala's governance. Observers note that while the administrative machinery continues to function, the lack of political engagement between the Governor and the state's elected leadership could complicate decision-making on key matters, including higher education appointments and protocol-related events in the coming months.
