Time of India22-05-2025

IndusInd Bank
may face muted financials in the medium to near-term, and the new MD and CEO will have an "uphill task" of resurrecting the bank and regaining investor trust, brokerages said on Thursday after the beleaguered bank reported its biggest net loss in 20 years. Most brokerages see downside in shares of IndusInd Bank, which posted a net loss of Rs 2,329 crore, marking one of the worst quarters in terms of both financial metrics and top level upheavals in the wake of accounting (derivative, MFI, other assets/liabilities) fraud.
Brokerage firm Emkay in its note said: "We believe these developments could hurt the bank's business and financials in the near-to-medium term."
Nirmal Bang, taking note of "uncertain outlook on various parameters", has cut the bank's earnings estimates by 23.6 per cent in current fiscal and 13 per cent for FY'27.

Lapses in derivatives accounting, slippages in microfinance portfolio, and fraud in balance sheet disclosures have rattled the private sector bank in the March quarter. The bank's internal audit review has found "involvement of senior Bank officials, including former Key Management Personnel (KMP), in overriding key internal controls".
The bank has reported likely involvement of the senior management in the accounting fraud to the central government.

IndusInd Bank Board is expected to submit names to the RBI for a new MD by June 30.
"We believe that given the series and intensity of frauds, the RBI may possibly consider appointing a nominee director on the Board and even push for a PSB banker as the MD, as has been seen in other beleaguered banks. Even in the event of a private banker being onboarded, as the new MD they will be faced with the uphill task of resurrecting the bank and regaining customer/investor trust," Emkay said.
Nuvama Institutional Equities in its note said the new CEO will have to tighten internal controls, strengthen governance and likely rebalance the asset mix, implying a sharp slowdown in earnings growth for next two years.
"Every other bank that has gone through accounting discrepancies or prior-period adjustments has taken 3-4 years to achieve a new normal. IndusInd, being a large bank, could take less time. Also, how retail depositors behave in the short term after back-to-back disclosures of prior-period adjustments is unknown," Nuvama said.
In January, the bank's CFO Gobind Jain resigned. On April 29, CEO Sumant Kathpalia and Deputy CEO Arun Khurana resigned from the bank, following which IndusInd Board appointed a Committee of Executives to oversee the operations of the bank, till a new MD and CEO assumes charge
ICICI Securities in its note said it believes IndusInd Bank would prioritise balance sheet stability vs. growth while the path to RoA revival remains uncertain, even if it was to get a signature hire.
"We expect a sharp EPS (earnings per share) downgrade in consensus estimates," ICICI Securities said, while retaining its 'sell' rating on the bank with a target price of Rs 650.
IDBI Capital has downgraded the scrip to 'sell' rating with a new target price of Rs 680.
Even after a dismal March quarter results, IndusInd Bank shares on Thursday afternoon bounced back after falling nearly 6 per cent in early trade. The shares were trading at Rs 777.25, up 0.80 per cent on BSE.

CaratLane pilots own quick commerce; No plans for lab-grown diamonds

Bengaluru: Omnichannel jewellery retailer CaratLane is rolling out its own quick commerce initiative, commencing with pilots in Gurgaon and slated for Hyderabad and Bangalore, a senior official of the company said. Talking to ETRetail, Saumen Bhaumik, MD, CaratLane, emphasised the push for accelerated delivery times, targeting four to six hours in high-density PIN codes. "Quick commerce has proved many theories wrong, so we are trying to make sure the delivery process is shorter and faster with our own bandwidth and infrastructure," he stated. The development comes as retailers across categories are actively partnering with quick commerce platforms. Recently, Kalyan Jewellers joined hands with Swiggy's quick commerce platform - Instamart. CaratLane, which reported a 24 per cent jump in its topline in FY25, has been diversifying its product range. Bhaumik shared that beyond 18-carat and 14-carat offerings, the company has launched a 9-carat jewellery range. When asked if the brand plans to enter the growing lab-grown diamonds segment, Bhaumik reiterated CaratLane's stance. "No, CaratLane is not going to get into LGD. That's very clear. We are going to play in natural diamonds only." He further commented, "At the falling rate of LGDs, making money would be very difficult for anybody who is venturing into it." Additionally, Bhaumik highlighted the strong trend towards premiumisation in jewellery . He noted that the Rs 50,000 and above segment is growing the fastest. The increasing popularity of solitaires, particularly in the mini solitaire category (20-70 cents), is also driving this trend, attracting many first-time diamond buyers, he added. The Tata Group-owned jeweller retailer opened 50 stores last year and this fiscal is eyeing over 40 new stores. While online sales account for roughly 10 per cent of direct revenue, digital influence extends to 70-80 per cent of customer journeys, with many customers researching designs online before visiting a physical store, Bhaumik explained when asked about the revenue contribution of offline and online channels.

ITR filing FY 2024-25: Several changes in Form 16! Top things salaried taxpayers shouldn't miss

ITR Filing: Under the new tax regime, standard deduction from salary has increased to Rs 75,000 from Rs 50,000. (AI image) ITR filing FY 2024-25: By June 15, 2025, employers must issue Form 16 to their salaried taxpayers for the fiscal year 2024-25. This year's Form 16 will have several modifications based on the amendments announced in the July 2024 Budget. Hence, it is important for taxpayers to take note of the changes in order to ensure error-free income tax e-filing. The last date to file Income Tax Return (ITR) for FY 2024-25 (AY 2025-26) has been extended this year from July 31 to September 15, 2025. Form 16 for ITR Filing : Top Changes Explained 1. Changes in Standard Deduction: This change is applicable only for individuals filing their income tax return under the new income tax regime. Under the new tax regime, standard deduction from salary has increased to Rs 75,000 from Rs 50,000, effective FY 2024-25. For employees who have selected the new tax regime in FY 2024-25 (AY 2025-26), Form 16 will reflect an enhanced Standard Deduction of Rs 75,000 when employers calculate TDS on salary. This aligns with the current income tax provisions for FY2024-25 under the new tax regime. It's important to note that should an individual decide to switch from new to old tax regime whilst filing ITR for FY 2024-25 (AY 2025-26), the standard deduction allowance from salary income will be limited to Rs 50,000. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Jeśli chcesz zabić czas przy komputerze, ta gra przygodowa jest koniecznością. Taxes deducted from other incomes: Form 16 will display tax deductions from additional income sources and Tax Collected at Source (TCS) on particular expenditures. This inclusion applies when employees have submitted Form 12BBA to their employer, according to an ET report. Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman's Budget 2024 had seen revised income tax regulations, enabling salaried individuals to notify employers about TDS from other income sources and TCS from specific expenses. These amounts can be deducted from the total tax payable from the employee's salary, resulting in reduced overall TDS from wages. Suresh Surana, a practising chartered accountant, told ET, "This year, Form 16 will show not only tax deducted by the employer on the salary income, but will also show tax deducted and tax collected on other sources of income such as interest on fixed deposits or tax paid as TCS on foreign travel expenditure, etc. However, this will happen only if a salaried employee has shared the details of other taxes deducted (TDS/TCS) via Form 12BAA. NPS Benefits: Under Section 80CCD (2) in the new tax regime, employees are permitted to claim a deduction of up to 14% of their basic salary. This applies to the employer's contribution towards the employee's National Pension System (NPS) account. The enhanced deduction will be reflected in Form 16 only for those who have opted for the new tax regime for TDS from salary. However, if an employee switches from the new to old tax regime whilst filing ITR, the deduction benefits will decrease. In the old tax regime, employees can only claim a deduction of 10% of their basic salary under Section 80CCD (2) for their employer's NPS contribution.
