India Guaranteed Atleast 43 Medals At Inaugural Asian U-15 & U-17 Boxing Championships

India is now assured of at least 25 medals in the U-15 category and 18 in the U-17, as all semifinalists are guaranteed bronze.
Team India has confirmed 43 medals at the inaugural Asian U-15 & U-17 Boxing Championships, organised by the newly recognised Asian Boxing body under World Boxing, with four more pugilists punching their way into the semifinals on Day 7.
India is now assured of at least 25 medals in the U-15 category and 18 in the U-17, as all semifinalists are guaranteed bronze.
Aman Siwach (63kg) and Devansh (80kg) led the charge in the U-17 boys' section, both securing Referee Stopped Contest (RSC) wins over opponents from the Philippines and Jordan, respectively, in the last set of quarterfinal bouts.
In the girls' division, Simranjeet Kaur (60kg) posted a commanding 5-0 win over Jordan's Aya Alhasanat, while Himanshi (70kg) ended her bout in the very first round with an RSC against Palestine's Farah Abou Layla, joining their cohorts in the penultimate round.
Earlier, Nelson Khwairakpam (55 kg) secured an RSC win in the first round over Chinese Taipei's Wang Sheng-Yang, while Abhijeet (61 kg) and Lakshay Phogat (64 kg) cruised to 5-0 victories against opponents from Kyrgyzstan and Jordan, respectively in the men's U-15 category.
Harsil (37kg) and Sanchit Jayani (49kg) secured commanding 5-0 victories, while Sanskar Vinod Atram (35kg) posted a solid 4-1 win. Prikshit Balahra (40kg) edged out a hard-fought 3-2 win over Mongolia's Akhmyetkhan Nursalyem.
Rudraksh Singh Khaidem (46kg) led a flawless outing for India on Day 4, clinching a clinical 3-0 win over Kyrgyzstan's Aidar Musaev.
Among the girls, Princi (52 kg) delivered a strong 5-0 result over Ukraine's Yeva Kubanova. Samruddhi Satish Shinde (55 kg) wrapped up her bout with an RSC in the third round against Ukraine's Kseniia Savina. Milky Meinam (43kg) dominated Yeldana Abdigani of Kazakhstan with a clean 5-0 verdict.

Bangladesh, Kazakhstan to be part of Asia Cup in place of Pakistan & Oman
With just 10 days to go for the first match, Asian Hockey Federation (AHF) finally announced the schedule for the men's Asia Cup hockey tournament. Pakistan, however, will not be part of it, having been replaced by Bangladesh in the eight-team tournament that will be held from Aug 29 to Sept 7 at Rajgir Sports Complex in Bihar. Oman also pulled out of the tournament at the last moment, with Kazakhstan taking their place. The remaining five teams taking part in the event besides hosts India are Japan, China, Chinese Taipei, Malaysia and South Korea. While India have been clubbed with Japan, China and Kazakhstan in Pool A, Pool B consists of Malaysia, Korea, Bangladesh and Chinese Taipei. After the pool stage, where the teams will play each other once, the top two teams from each pool will play in the Super4s. Once again it will be played in a round-robin format with the top two teams making it to the final. The winner will be awarded a spot in the FIH World Cup to be held next year in the Netherlands and Belgium. As far as the fixtures are concerned, Malaysia will play the tournament opener against Bangladesh, while India will hope to make a winning start when they take on China. Being the No. 1 side in Asia, Craig Fulton's men will undoubtedly come into the tournament as strong favourites. But hockey fans will certainly feel the absence of Pakistan. Their participation was always doubtful following the Pahalgam incident. However, the Indian govt had said it would provide visas to the players and even Hockey India was confident of their participation. But Pakistan Hockey Federation (PHF) refused to travel citing security concerns. AHF president Fumio Ogura, meanwhile, said in a statement, "The Asia Cup will bring together the very best of Asian hockey. With World Cup qualification on the line, every match will carry enormous importance. We are confident this edition will showcase thrilling competition, inspire millions of fans, and leave a lasting legacy for the sport in Asia." Korea continue to be the most successful side in the tournament, having won the title five times in the past. As for India, they finished third in the last edition in Jakarta but it does seem they will finish on top this time around. Prithvi Shaw hits hundred on Maharashtra debut in Buchi Babu
Agency: Chennai, Aug 19 (PTI) Out-of-favour India batter Prithvi Shaw began his stint for Maharashtra with a sparkling hundred on debut in a Buchi Babu Invitational Tournament match against Chhattisgarh here on Tuesday. Shaw's century in the first innings came in 122 balls and included 14 fours and a six. The 25-year-old's knock on the second day of the match helped Maharashtra recover from a precarious position as the side at one stage lost four wickets for just 15 runs after an opening stand of 71 between Shaw and Sachin Dhas. After Maharashtra lost Ruturaj Gaikwad and Ankeet Bawne in quick succession, Shaw stitched a 57-run partnership for the fifth wicket with Siddharth Mhatre to steady the innings. After reaching his century with a single, Shaw quietly raised his bat and walked up to the other end to hug his partner. Shaw made 111 off 141 balls before being stumped off the bowling of leg-spinner Shubham Agrawal. Chhattisgarh had made 252 in 89.3 overs on the opening day. Shaw had earlier switched his allegiance from Mumbai to Maharasthra to revive his career. Once seen as a future India star after his exploits in U-19 World Cup and a scintillating century on Test debut, Shaw had joined Maharashtra earlier this year amid concerns around his form and fitness. He was dropped from Mumbai's Ranji Trophy squad last season and wasn't picked for its Vijay Hazare Trophy campaign. Though he was part of the Mumbai squad for the Syed Mushtaq Ali T20 in December, his returns were a meagre 197 runs with the bat. And the funny thing is that his life has transformed for the better in a matter of just three months. Gill, after all, was named Rohit Sharma's successor as Test captain in May after the 'Hitman' abruptly announced his retirement along with Kohli. He would then go on a record-breaking spree in his maiden Test series as captain as well as batting at the No 4 spot, playing a key role in helping his team walk away with a 2-2 draw. And now, the 25-year-old returns to the T20I side not just as a vital cog in the batting order but as the vice-captain more than a year after his last appearance for the Men in Blue in the format. One step closer to leadership across formats? The move all but confirms one thing – that the Indian team management as well as the board views him as the next all-formats captain. However, an individual who is said to count both head coach Gautam Gambhir and chairman of selectors Ajit Agarkar among his fans isn't likely to be left out of a squad, especially for an event as important as the Asia Cup. With Gill now likely to open alongside Punjab and India teammate Abhishek Sharma at the top of the order and slots booked all the way till the lower middle-order, wicketkeeper-batter Sanju Samson will most likely have to warm the bench in the Asia Cup and possibly even in next year's T20 World Cup. Samson has done little wrong to lose his place in the playing XI – he had, after all, smashed back-to-back centuries in the shortest format for the Men in Blue last year, and would end up with three centuries in a space of five outings as a result. Problem of plenty strikes Indian cricket again Then again, Indian cricket has been dealing with a problem of plenty for a while now, and that comes purely down to the success of India's domestic system and the IPL along with strong leadership and guidance in the national teams over the years. The result – Team India having plenty of match-winning options for each position or department across formats. Coming back to Gill, he isn't likely to remain vice-captain too long. The BCCI and the team management might be seeing Suryakumar as their leader for the T20I format till the end of the T20 World Cup. Once that's out of the way, he might be persuaded to give up his post for Gill, much like Rohit in Tests earlier this year. STORY CONTINUES BELOW THIS AD All that will be left for will be the 2027 ICC World Cup. And even though both Rohit and Kohli have expressed their desire to play that tournament, the former presumably as captain, it won't come as a surprise if the powers of Indian cricket are already visualising Gill wear the captain's armband in cricket's showpiece event.
