This Netflix Star Was Basically Erased From Her Own Movie At The SAG Awards

Yahoo25-02-2025
When 'Emilia Pérez' was celebrated at Sunday's SAG Awards, Karla Sofía Gascón was far from the spotlight.
Not only did the Spanish actor skip the award show, but she also seemed to have been largely cut from a segment highlighting the much-lauded musical crime comedy.
In a supercut of the film's highlights, its leading lady only appeared for a split second while supporting stars Selena Gomez and Zoe Saldaña took up most of the screen time.
Gascón has been keeping a low profile after a slate of offensive X posts she once made resurfaced late last month.
In the since-deleted posts, the actor denigrated Muslims, criticized diversity at the Oscars and called George Floyd a 'drug addict swindler.' Another post purported to be from Gascón described her co-star Gomez as a 'rich rat.'
Though she subsequently apologized for the 'hurt' her words may have caused in a statement through 'Emilia Pérez' distributor Netflix, she also complained about the backlash in separate interviews.
'I have been convicted and sacrificed and crucified and stoned without a trial and without the option to defend myself,' she told CNN Español earlier this month.
The SAG Awards were not the first event Gascón has chosen to skip this awards season. She was also conspicuously absent from this month's Critics Choice Awards, PGA Awards and the BAFTAs.
While the star has been avoiding the public eye since the controversy began, she is reportedly planning to attend next month's Oscars.
Gascón made history when she became the first transgender woman to be nominated for Best Actress.

Netflix Sets Date For ‘The Vince Staples' Show Season 2 [First Look Images]

Source: Courtesy / Netflix Vince Staples isn't done making us laugh, think, and question everything. Netflix just announced that The Vince Staples Show is officially returning for Season 2 this Fall. Read more and check out first look photos inside. According to Netflix's Tudum , the beloved satirical comedy series will make its return November 6 to the streaming platform. The Vince Staples Show is created by Staples along with Ian Edelman and Maurice Williams. The series first premiered in 2024 and immediately stood out for its mix of dry humor, social commentary, and slice-of-life storytelling. This time around, the show is expanding to six episodes instead of five, meaning fans will get even more absurd, hilarious, and thought-provoking moments from Vince's world. But don't expect smooth sailing for Staples' on-screen persona. According to Tudum , Season 2 picks up after a tragic death, sending Vince on a chaotic journey toward inner peace. Though his haunted past isn't letting go that easily, the series returns in true Vince fashion. It's equal parts funny, uncomfortable, and real. We care about your data. See our privacy policy. The new season will also feature Vanessa Bell Calloway and Naté Jones as recurring guest stars, adding even more flavor to an already stacked mix of talent. Behind the camera, Kenya Barris, Corey Smyth, William Stefan Smith, Andrea Sperling, and Leonard Chang are all back as executive producers. When Netflix renewed the series, Staples made sure to hype it up in only the way he can. ' The Vince Staples Show is back,' he shared with excitement. 'The people have spoken and the most riveting, captivating, and polarizing show on Netflix is returning for Season 2. Get ready for hijinks that only a mother can love. Thank you, Netflix!' It's been a big year for Staples outside of TV too. His album Dark Times received critical acclaim, he earned a spot on the TIME100 Next list, and he stayed trending across social media for his signature quick wit. All of that momentum is rolling straight into Season 2, which promises to build on the mix of comedy, honesty, and social reflection that made the first season stand out. As Staples once told Tudum , the show works because it mirrors life itself. 'Next for Vince is literally anything because anything could happen at any moment,' Staples shared. 'That's just how life works.' Mark your calendars: Vince Staples is back November 6 on Netflix. ‘KPop Demon Hunters' Is Up Against Netflix's Big New Original Movie

What, just because a movie came out in June and two months later it's still #1 on Netflix, that means it can't be beaten? Well, so far, yes, that's what it means. It's only happened a few times, but when it's been knocked off the top, KPop Demon Hunters immediately recaptures #1 as it sails toward becoming what may be Netflix's most-watched original movie ever. But enter another Netflix original movie, this one starring one of summer's hottest actresses, Vanessa Kirby, and based on a best-selling book. Kirby is starring in Night Always Comes, a thriller that's a Netflix original adapting The Night Always Comes by Willy Vlautin back in 2021. Here's the synopsis: So not exactly a rom-com, then. The movie does not boast the most recognizable cast. Past Kirby, there's Jennifer Jason Leigh, Randall Park and that's kind of it. The movie is directed by Benjamin Caron, who, it turns out, actually did three episodes of Andor and 11 episodes of The Crown. Very nice! However, Night Always Comes appears to be…quite bad. The movie only has a 57% Rotten critic score and an even worse 43% audience score. This is competing with KPop Demon Hunters' 97% and 91% respectively. While Kirby had a great turn as Sue Storm in this summer's Fantastic Four over at Marvel, it appears this follow-up a few weeks later is not it. As for KPop Demon Hunters, what record shall we mention this week? Well it just got three songs inside the Billboard Top 10 list, which breaks several records across both KPop or movie soundtracks more generally. Again, every day that KPop Demon Hunters remains on top of Netflix's Top 10 list, it's extending a record run on that service. The latest news here is that the directors are now in active talks for a sequel, because of course they are. It is not impossible that Night Always Comes at least temporarily knocks KPop Demon Hunters down from #1, given that it's got a cool title, synopsis and Vanessa Kirby on the cover, but I would not put money on that. I have no idea when KPop Demon Hunters will finally, fully slide down the top 10 list here, but it's not going to be any time soon. Follow me on Twitter, YouTube, and Instagram. Scandalous trad wife thrillers that read like an episode of ‘The Hunting Wives'

If there's one thing thriller authors do well, it's turning the zeitgeist into something sinister and creepy. Such is the case with 'The Hunting Wives,' the Netflix adaptation of May Cobb's 2021 novel of the same name. In it, an East Coast woman moves to a Texas town and finds herself pulled into a seductive circle of affluent red-state housewives. There's more than just gun clubs, church groups and gossip to 'The Hunting Wives" – a murder mystery is at the heart of the story. If you're dying for more entertainment like the Netflix adaptation, or just looking for a twisted take on those viral trad wife baking videos, then these seven books are sure to scratch that itch. 'Everyone is Lying to You' by Jo Piazza 'Everyone is Lying to You' is about Lizzie and her former best friend Bex, who disappeared after college and reemerged 15 years later as a 'traditional wife' influencer famous for her videos of her family ranch life. Lizzie, on the other hand, is a struggling magazine writer. Unexpectedly, Bex asks Lizzie to exclusively interview her about her ranch and influencing career. But rather than being a career-making moment, Lizzie arrives to find Bex missing and her picture-perfect husband murdered. 'House of Beth' by Kerry Cullen This new book follows a young woman named Cassie who escapes to her suburban hometown after a gutting breakup and a horrific work incident. She reconnects with her high school best friend, Eli, now a widowed father, and quickly slides into his life as his new wife and stepmother to his children. But there's something eerie beneath the picturesque life, including gory, haunting visions and the shadow of Eli's late wife. 'The Southern Book Club's Guide to Slaying Vampires' by Grady Hendrix Book club goes awry in this 'blood-soaked tale of neighborly kindness gone wrong.' 'The Southern Book Club's Guide to Slaying Vampires' follows Patricia Campbell, a woman with a workaholic husband, independent teenagers and needy mother-in-law. Her crime book club of close-knit Charleston women is the only thing keeping her going. But she finds her community at risk after a series of strange events including a violent attack by an elderly neighbor, a handsome man coming into her life and disappearing children. 'The Tradwife's Secret' by Liane Child 'The Tradwife's Secret' is a 2025 release about a trad wife influencer who spends her days baking sourdough, picking vegetables, preparing dinner for her husband and caring for her children at their Montana homestead. But their life is a lie. Find out what really goes on behind the cameras in this twisted domestic thriller. 'Comfort Me With Apples' by Catherynne M. Valente Housewife Sophia lives with a seemingly perfect life with her seemingly perfect husband in Arcadia Gardens in 'Comfort Me With Apples.' She's devoted to being a good wife, but things spiral when her husband grows absent. Sophia begins to question the darker sides of her husband and life, including the locked basement she's not allowed to enter and the neighbors that won't look her in the eye. 'Motherthing' by Ainslie Hogarth Absurd, creepy and hilarious, 'Motherthing' starts when married couple Ralph and Abby move in with Ralph's mother, Laura. Abby hopes Laura might become the mother figure she never had, especially as she and Ralph are trying to start a family. But Laura is cruel to Abby, and living with her is hellish. The situation becomes actual hell after Laura dies by suicide and begins to haunt the house. 'The Sinful Lives of Trophy Wives' by Kristin Miller The trophy wives of San Francisco elite get up to trouble in the neighborhood in this thriller. 'The Sinful Lives of Trophy Wives' follows newcomer Brooke Davies, a mystery writer with a much older husband who demands perfection; Erin King, a famed news anchor balancing maintaining her image and keeping her husband from straying younger; and Georgia St. Claire, rumored to have murdered her first two husbands for their money.
