Maart also penned an emotional letter and thanked Chiefs as well as his previous club, Sekhukhune United, for how his career had turned out.
The Capetonian actually began his professional career in the colours of Orlando Pirates. However, things didn't pan out, and after a brief loan spell to Cape Umoya United, he secured a move to Sekhukhune United, where he started to make an impact.
After helping Sekhukhune earn promotion to the Betway Premiership, he moved to Kaizer Chiefs and quickly became one of their key players. He was the club's captain last season and scored the winning goal in the Nedbank Cup final against Pirates.

Firstly, I want to express my deepest gratitude to the Chairman and CEO of Sekhukhune United for believing in my talent,' he wrote in the letter shared by his agency, P Management.
Their unwavering support and the leadership opportunities they provided were pivotal in shaping not only my confidence as a player but also as a person. The lessons I've learned will stay with me forever.
I would also like to thank the Chairman of Kaizer Chiefs and the entire management for entrusting me with the honor of wearing the armband. Leading one of the biggest and most prestigious teams on the continent is something I will always cherish and be proud of.
To all the coaches who have guided me throughout my journey, I am beyond grateful. The knowledge and wisdom you've shared have helped me grow in ways that go beyond the game itself. Your influence has shaped me into the player I am today.
To my teammates, thank you for your support and the unforgettable moments we've shared on and off the field. But most importantly, I want to thank the Amakhosi faithful – the fans. Your unwavering belief in us through both the triumphs and the challenges has been a constant source of motivation.

Kaizer Chiefs have concluded their pre-season tour to the Netherlands with one win and four defeats. Having spent nearly three weeks in the Netherlands, Amakhosi will now return to South Africa to finalise their preparations ahead of the 2025/26 Betway Premiership season. The Soweto giants will play Ghanaian giants Asante Kotoko next weekend in the Toyota Cup. So far, Chiefs have made seven signings but are expected to bring in more players before the transfer window closes in September. The Glamour Boys have been linked with ex-Cape Town City stars, Jaedin Rhodes and Khanyiso Mayo. Mayo has been linked with Amakhosi since 2022 but failed to sign the striker last year after Algerian giants tabled the offer hours before Kaizer Chiefs. With only one striker signed for the season, some fans feel the club need to go out and spend big on a prolific forward. It appears that George Matlou and Zitha Kwinika have extended their stay with Amakhosi. The two players hardly played last season under Nasreddine Nabi but it appears to Tunisian has decided to give them another chance at Naturena. Former Chiefs captain Tefu Mashamaite was delighted that Amakhosi renewed Kwinika's contract. 'Firstly, congratulations to Zitha on his extension. He's a homegrown talent and I had the privilege of working with him when he got promoted from the juniors when I was still at Chiefs. Around that time I tipped him to be part of the next generation to take Amakhosi to the next level. Him, Pule (Ekstein) and (Chris) Matombo,' Mashamaite said to Soccer Laduma . After spells at Chippa United, Bidvest Wits and Stellenbosch, Mashamaite feel Kwinika hasn't really blossomed to his full and true potential. 'And my theory is that I know Zitha to be a centre back. But he was at times used as a right back (under Arthur Zwane), which I think he did pretty well in that position. 'But I feel like his true potential is in the centre back position. He played as a centre back in the Nedbank Cup final, which might be the reason why he has a new chance,' said the former Kaizer Chiefs defender. While results were mixed, with a hard-fought win over PEC Zwolle and narrow defeats to strong sides like Vitesse, NEC Nijmegen and FC Twente, the overall progress shown by coach Nasreddine Nabi's squad was clear. The tour was an important step in building team chemistry and testing new signings against quality opposition in a challenging European environment. Chiefs looked more cohesive and sharper as the trip progressed. The midfield showed great resilience, with Sibongiseni Mthethwa impressing alongside both Thabo Cele and Nkosingiphile Ngcobo. 'I was called a traiter for joining Pirates' – Ex-Kaizer Chiefs star
Former Kaizer Chiefs striker Siyabonga Nomvethe has revealed that he was called a traitor for joining Orlando Pirates in 2006. Having signed from African Wanderers in 1998, 'Bhele' made a name for himself at Amakhosi, scoring 42 times in 29 matches for the Soweto giants. In 2001, he was signed by Italian outfit Udinese but spent most of his time loaned out to several Italian clubs. In 2006, Novethe returned to South Africa but did not join Kaizer Chiefs, instead he joined Orlando Pirates in what was a shock move. He scored four times in 14 matches for the Buccaneers before he went back to Europe. 'Chiefs wanted to sign me on a long-term contract,' Nomvethe told iDiski Times . 'But I was only home for six months and I wanted to go back to Europe. Pirates showed interest, and they agreed on a six-month term, and I joined them. 'I did not bother myself about people who felt I was a traitor by joining Pirates instead of Chiefs because I knew what was happening.' The former Bafana Bafana striker did return to the PSL in 2009 but did not join Chiefs or Pirates.
