‘Roadmap for prosperous India': HM Amit Shah hails PM Modi's I-Day address

New Delhi: Union Home Minister and Minister of Cooperation Amit Shah on Friday termed Prime Minister Narendra Modi's address to the nation on the 79th Independence Day as a roadmap showcasing the progress of the past 11 years, the strength of the present, and the strategy for a prosperous India. Home Minister Shah, in a series of posts on X, said that whether it's the elimination of terrorists through 'Operation Sindoor,' the plan to secure the country's infrastructure through 'Mission Sudarshan Chakra,' or the resolve to create an infiltrator-free India through the 'High-Powered Demography Mission,' the PM Modi-led government is committed to making the nation strong and secure. HM Shah highlighted the government's unwavering commitment to the interests of farmers and hailed PM Modi's call for self-reliance in nuclear energy, critical minerals, energy, the space sector, and jet engines. He said the announcement of the 'Pradhan Mantri Viksit Bharat Rozgar Yojana' and significant GST relief measures during the upcoming Diwali will make the lives of citizens easier and boost small enterprises. HM Shah said that on Independence Day, PM Modi gifted the youth of the nation by announcing the implementation of the 'Pradhan Mantri Viksit Bharat Rozgar Yojana' with a fund of Rs 1 lakh crore. Under this scheme, first-time employees in the private sector will receive Rs 15,000, and companies generating more jobs will also receive incentives. This initiative will benefit approximately 3.5 crore youth, providing a golden opportunity for Indian youth and strengthening the journey toward a self-reliant India. The Home Minister stated that the Modi government is taking robust steps toward a self-reliant India by empowering small businesses. From the ramparts of the Red Fort, PM Modi announced Next Gen GST Reforms as a Diwali gift to the nation. These reforms will not only greatly benefit small industries but also make everyday essentials more affordable, giving a new impetus to the Indian economy. This effort will further strengthen India's economic prowess and significantly contribute to making it the world's third-largest economy, he said. He added that that PM Modi made a historic announcement on Independence Day by launching 'Mission Sudarshan Chakra.' Under this mission, by 2035, critical national sites will be equipped with cutting-edge technology and powerful weapon systems. The mission aims not only to neutralise enemy attacks but also to deliver counter-strikes, much like the Sudarshan Chakra. This step will prove to be a milestone in making national security impregnable and enabling targeted strikes against adversaries. The Union Minister said that in his historic Independence Day address, PM Modi acknowledged the 100-year rich history and contributions of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) to nation-building, paying tribute to all the volunteers who have made unparalleled contributions to the country's 100-year journey of progress. For the past century, the RSS has fulfilled its resolve of nation-building through individual development with service, dedication, organisation, and discipline, he said.

Independence Day 2025 Modi signals new push for tech independence with local chips Before Trump, British used tariffs to kill Indian textile Bank of Azad Hind: When Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose gave India its own currency The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI), under MoRTH , rolled-out the 'FASTag Annual Pass' facility from 15th August 2025 at about 1,150 toll plazas on National Highways and Expressways across the country, NHAI said in a statement issued on Friday. 'The annual pass has received an overwhelming response from the national highway users. On the first day of implementation, around 1.39 lakh transactions were recorded on toll plazas,' it said, adding around 20,000 – 25,000 concurrent users are using Rajmargyatra App at any point of time and annual pass users are receiving SMS messages for zero deduction of toll fee. The FASTag Annual Pass eliminates the need to frequently recharge FASTag through one-time fee payment of Rs 3,000 for one year validity or 200 toll plaza crossings. It is applicable for all non-commercial vehicles with a valid FASTag and gets activated within two hours of the one-time fee payment. To facilitate the use of the annual toll pass, NHAI officials and nodal officers have been appointed on each toll plaza to ensure a smooth travel experience for the pass users. Besides, NHAI is addressing queries of the pass users through various channels and has strengthened 1033 National Highway helpline. The government is of the view that the introduction of the annual pass facility will not only enhance the FASTag user experience but will also make journeys on the national highways and expressways more economical and seamless With a penetration rate of around 98% and over 80 million users, FASTag has revolutionized the electronic toll collection system in the country.

India should position weddings, MICE as niche tourism segment: Government official

India should focus on promoting weddings and MICE (Meetings, Incentives, Conferences, Exhibitions) as a niche tourism segment rather than grouping it under general tourism development, a senior Union Tourism Ministry official said here on Friday. Independence Day 2025 Modi signals new push for tech independence with local chips Before Trump, British used tariffs to kill Indian textile Bank of Azad Hind: When Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose gave India its own currency Delivering the keynote address at what was claimed to be the country's first Wedding and MICE conclave, Additional Secretary and Director General of Tourism Suman Billa said Kerala had strong potential to emerge as a leading venue in this category, according to a government release. He suggested that the wedding and MICE segment should ideally have separate microsites on the country's leading tourism portals to bring its immense scope into sharper focus, the release said. The three-day conclave, which began here on Thursday evening, is being organised by the Kerala Travel Mart (KTM) Society in association with the state tourism department. Billa said Kerala stood to benefit greatly from the sector's growth due to its inherent advantages. Live Events "The state has excellent ambience and infrastructure, and the need of the hour is convergence by linking the dots to usher in a synergy," he was quoted as saying. He claimed Kerala had a potential business opportunity worth Rs 1 lakh crore in wedding and MICE tourism. Billa also praised the state government's decision to go beyond conventional tourism strategies and diversify into wedding and MICE. Kerala's green-friendly policies and its widely acclaimed Responsible Tourism model have helped the state renew its reputation as a global destination, he said. He further said the recent US imposition of steeper tariffs on India was unlikely to affect its status as the world's fastest-growing major economy. The summit has attracted over 675 buyers, including 65 from abroad, representing countries such as the UAE, UK, USA, Germany, Australia, and Brazil. Seventy-five exhibition stalls have been set up for sellers.
