Amyl and The Sniffers, Troye Sivan, Kevin Parker Win Big at 2025 APRA Music Awards
The Melbourne group received the coveted peer-voted award for their track 'U Should Not Be Doing That,' which was released as the lead single for their 2024 album Cartoon Darkness. The record itself became the group's second consecutive release to hit No. 2 on the ARIA charts, while the single received a nomination for best video at the 2024 ARIA Awards.

The award caps off an impressive run for the four-piece, having recently wrapped up two weekends at Coachella as part of their North American tour, and taking out both best live act and best LP/EP at the 2025 Rolling Stone Australia Awards.
Troye Sivan, meanwhile, was named songwriter of the year, just shy of the one-year anniversary of 'Rush' being named song of the year at the 2024 ceremony.
'Songwriting is my favorite thing that I get to do. I think it'll be something that I do for the rest of my life,' Sivan said of his win. 'I feel like it's, one of the greatest gifts that I was born with. Not even the ability to write a good song, just the ability to create at all.'
While Otis Pavlovic and Royel Maddell of Royel Otis received the emerging songwriter of the year award just months after winning four trophies at the ARIA Awards, Tame Impala frontman Kevin Parker emerged as the night's big winner, being honored in the categories of most performed Australian work and most performed pop work.
In both instances, Parker's win was for Dua Lipa's 'Houdini,' which he co-wrote alongside Lipa and international writers Caroline Ailin, Danny Harle and Tobias Jesso Jr. Released in November 2023, the single topped the Hot Dance/Electronic Songs chart, and reached a respectable No. 11 on the Hot 100.
Sia's 'Unstoppable' was named most performed Australian work overseas, while Tate McRae's 'Greedy' took out most performed international work. King Stingray, Ziggy Alberts, Make Them Suffer, Kaiit, Lithe, and Dom Dolla also emerged victorious in their respective genre categories, while Kylie Minogue took out the previously-announced Ted Albert Award for Outstanding Services to Australian Music.
The 2025 edition of the APRAs cemented 'another huge year for Australian music, both at home and overseas,' comments APRA AMCOS CEO Dean Ormston.
'It's heartwarming to see so many first-time winners this year, showcasing the incredible breadth of talent Australia produces, and it's a testament to the opportunity of Australia becoming a global songwriting powerhouse,' he added.
'With an election just days away, we hope that both sides of government can see the immense talent we have here, and the opportunities to build a stronger, fairer, more vibrant future for Australian music, recognising our music as the global cultural powerhouse and valuable export that it so clearly is.'
Established in 1982, the Australasian Performing Right Association's annual songwriters' ceremony is one of the Australian music industry's most treasured events, a worthy counterpart to Britain's Ivor Novello Awards.

BTS Matches Taylor Swift In A Rare Chart Feat
Live albums are not uncommon, especially in today's world where the technology to record performances and concerts is more readily accessible and easier to use than ever. But for most artists, recording and releasing live sets doesn't typically lead to major success on the Billboard charts. Live albums rarely perform as well as studio efforts, and it's relatively uncommon for one to break into the top 10 on the Billboard 200, the chart company's most competitive ranking of EPs and full-lengths in the United States. So far in 2025, only two live albums have managed to reach that region — and that number doubles this week. BTS joins Taylor Swift in this uncommon feat, according to Billboard. Just a few months ago, in January, Swift scored a new bestselling live title with Lover: Live From Paris. The vinyl version, which was available only for a short time, instantly became a must-have for Swifties. The set reappeared out of nowhere at No. 2 on the Billboard 200, narrowly missing giving the singer-songwriter another chart leader. Lover: Live From Paris then disappeared one week later, and hasn't returned since. BTS Scores Across Multiple Billboard Rankings Permission to Dance On Stage (Live) opens inside the top 10 on all three Billboard charts it debuts on this week, though it earns the lowest start on the Billboard 200. The project brings BTS back to No. 1 on the World Albums list, where the group has now scored 14 rulers. Kendrick Lamar Replaces Drake A At No. 1
It's likely that no matter how much time passes since the end of their public feud, Kendrick Lamar and Drake will always be compared to one another and seen as rivals. The rappers spent part of 2024 trading diss tracks in what turned out to be one of the most high-profile beefs in hip-hop history. Lamar came out on top, thanks largely to his tune "Not Like Us," which didn't just reach No. 1 on the Hot 100, it also earned the rapper both Record and Song of the Year at the Grammys. It's been well over a year since "Not Like Us" seemingly finished the war, but Lamar and Drake are still competing against one another directly on the Billboard charts. Kendrick Lamar Replaces Drake at No. 1 Lamar manages to replace Drake at No. 1 on several Billboard tallies in the United States this week, thanks to his recent collaboration with friend and tourmate SZA. "Luther" returns to the summit on both the Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs and Hot Rap Songs rankings this frame. Last period, the collaboration sat in the runner-up spot on the two consumption-based lists, pushed down by Drake's "What Did I Miss?" The Canadian hip-hop superstar's single begins to decline this frame, making way for "Luther" — one of the most popular tunes in hip-hop of all time, according to the charts — to find its way to the summit once more. Drake's Songs Decline as "Luther" Surges On the Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs tally, "What Did I Miss?" drops from No. 1 to No. 3, landing just ahead of Drake's previous smash "Nokia." On the Hot Rap Songs chart, "What Did I Miss?" only steps back one space, while "Nokia" also holds at No. 4 on that ranking. "Luther" Extends Its Historic Reign "Luther" has now ruled both the Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs and Hot Rap Songs rankings for 29 weeks apiece. The tune long ago became the longest-running leader on both tallies, and with every frame it commands the tallies, it adds to its total and Lamar and SZA further their lead over every other hit in the history of those genres.
