The Darkness halt Liverpool show mid-song after seeing problem in crowd
Devotees of The Darkness, known for their eclectic metal mix of rock and roll, had turned out to see the four-piece band at Mountford Hall at the Liverpool Guild of Students for a night of thumping rhythms, impossibly high falsetto and spectacular guitar solos.
After queueing for 30 minutes, I was finally in the labyrinth building where support act, 90s band Ash, was already warming up the crowd with their well-loved hits like 'Girl From Mars' and 'Shining Light'. The only problem for me was that I couldn't see.

I am 5ft 5in, the average height for a woman, and I could not see what was happening on the stage at all - now whether that was because of the layout of the stage and hall itself, or the fact that the band weren't elevated enough, I couldn't say, because I genuinely couldn't see, which kind of spoilt the experience for me a little.
By the time The Darkness stepped out, I had been able to shuffle forward a little to catch a glimmer of the band through the shoulders of the tall. Then came a set from a band that is not afraid to play just crowd-pleasing hits, reminding us all exactly what The Darkness is known for.
Quickly we run through 'Rock and Roll Party Cowboy' and 'Get Your Hands Off My Woman'. The ease and confidence with which they play is testament to their musical talents and they are good fun with a catalogue of back-to-back classic rock songs that feel nostalgic even if you haven't heard them before.
Steered on by energetic frontman Justin Hawkins, they rip through all the big songs from the 2003 Brit award-winning album Permission to Land, with 'I Believe In A Thing Called Love' bringing the set to a close. But mid-song, Justin paused with a problem and said: "I love you, but let's put the phones away for this one."
Sensing it is going to be a special moment in the show, he said it should be "something magical" and added: "It us and you, united." Away go the phones and away we go again, from the top and it is special, the crowd love it and the band fully embrace this 20-year-old song as their showstopping end.
Of course they play an epic encore with another song from their up and coming album Dreams on Toast, 'I Hate Myself'. The Darkness are still here; as they say in one of their new songs 'Walking Through Fire', they "never stopped making hit albums; it's just that no one buys them anymore". Perhaps with this pre album launch tour The Darkness are hoping to step into the limelight of chart success once again.
If there was a chart for showmanship and a good time, they would easily be in for a shot at the top. Saying goodbye to the audience, Justin said they had had an amazing time and added: "And it's all because of you Liverpool, you've been f***ing amazing."
The Darkness continue their UK tour throughout March, while their new album Dreams on Toast is out March 28, find out more details via their website https://www.thedarknesslive.com/

Justin And Hailey Bieber Reportedly Feel A 'Sense Of Relief' As Cause Of Marital Strain Is Revealed
For months, Justin Bieber and his wife, Hailey Bieber, were plagued by rumors that their marriage was facing significant challenges. Now, insiders have revealed the real reason behind the strain on the couple's relationship, linking it to the singer's recently released album "Swag." Though the release brought relief, insiders claim their marriage still requires work, with Hailey Bieber remaining the "stable parent" while Justin Bieber navigates fatherhood. Justin Bieber's Focus On 'Swag' Reportedly Strained His Marriage With Hailey Bieber Justin's new album "Swag" was reportedly a source of tension in his marriage to Hailey Bieber. A source told Us Weekly that "the intense focus and emotional toll of creating new music had put a strain on their marriage." The insider explained that when Justin is in the studio, he gets "completely consumed and shuts everything else out," adding that his all-or-nothing approach often leaves Hailey feeling sidelined. Now that his seventh studio album is finally out and receiving strong reviews, things between the couple are said to feel lighter. "There's a sense of relief on both sides," the source said. "Justin's behavior has been more relaxed." They further noted that the pop star is relieved by the warm reception: "He felt a lot of pressure hanging over him and has been in a better mental headspace these last few weeks. He is very happy there have been positive reviews of the album and that fans like it." Hailey Bieber Reportedly Supports Justin Amid His Mental Health Struggles Meanwhile, Hailey has reportedly been "very patient" with her husband throughout his ongoing mental health challenges, choosing to take their relationship "day by day." "There's still work to be done in their marriage," the source said. "But they're in a much better place." Following the release of Justin's album, the couple retreated to their favorite getaway in Idaho with their son, Jack Blues. The trip has been described as a much-needed reset, giving them space to "finally reconnect more." Their little boy, Jack, will mark his first birthday on Friday, August 22. On "Swag," Justin openly reflects on their marital ups and downs, weaving those struggles into tracks like "Daisies" and "Walking Away." Hailey Bieber Shuts Down Divorce Rumors Despite ongoing speculation, Hailey has dismissed rumors that her marriage to Justin is on the rocks. Speaking to Vogue in May, the Rhode Skin founder made it clear that the chatter doesn't reflect her reality. "It's not real," she said of the headlines. "The thing: I have a real life. My real life is that I get to wake up to my beautiful family and my son, and my friends and I have people that know me and love me and I love them." Hailey admitted that it's taken "a lot of therapy" to reach that sense of balance. "I'm a processor," she explained. "If I can just speak it out loud and process it, I usually can get there on my own." Hailey Bieber Hoped The Divorce Rumors Would Die Down After Seven Years Of Marriage When asked whether she believes the constant scrutiny of her marriage will ever fade, Hailey confessed she once thought it would. "Well, I thought seven years in it would've [died down] already, and it hasn't," she admitted, adding that the divorce rumors have lingered since their 2018 wedding. "You would think after having a child, people would maybe move on, chill out a little bit, but no," she added bluntly. "So I guess these b-tches are going to be mad." Justin Bieber's Struggles Reportedly Put Strain On His Marriage To Hailey Bieber Still, by June, an insider told Us Weekly that the couple's marriage had hit a rough patch, largely due to Justin's struggle to tackle his personal and professional worlds. "Justin has felt lost recently," the source revealed. "His friend group around him has shifted, and he is going through a lot of changes. Navigating fatherhood, trying to put out music [and] past traumas surfacing has been a lot for him." The insider went on to describe Hailey as "the stable parent and the one keeping their family together," adding that the responsibility has been "really hard on her." Justin and Hailey tied the knot in September 2018 after a whirlwind romance and later renewed their vows in May 2024, just months before welcoming their son, Jack, in August 2024. How Justin and Hailey Bieber's Marriage Has Changed—and Why 'There's Still Work to Be Done'
THE RUNDOWN Justin and Hailey Bieber will celebrate their son's first birthday tomorrow, and the couple has come a long way in their relationship over the past few months. After reports surfaced earlier this summer of the Biebers facing a challenging time in their marriage, a source close to the couple told Us Weekly today that Hailey and Justin are doing a lot better. 'There's still work to be done in their marriage, but they're in a much better place,' the source said, adding that Hailey, in particular, 'takes it day by day and is very patient [with Justin].' The couple's issues stemmed from Justin's erratic behavior, multiple sources shared earlier this year. But since releasing his album Swag, Justin has been more at ease. The 'tension has settled,' Us Weekly's insider explained, noting that 'the intense focus and emotional toll of creating new music had put a strain on their marriage. When Justin is in the studio making new music, he gets completely consumed and shuts everything else out.' Now, the couple has 'been able to finally reconnect more,' the source continued. 'There's a sense of relief on both sides. Justin's behavior has been more relaxed. He felt a lot of pressure hanging over him and has been in a better mental headspace these last few weeks. He is very happy there have been positive reviews of the album and that fans like it.' A source told Entertainment Tonight earlier this week that the singer still has his mental health challenges but is doing his best to take care of himself. 'Justin is feeling better since his album release,' the insider explained. 'Having creative outlets has helped him have some stability. He is still dealing with a lot of anxiety in his life, but he's doing his best to be present in his marriage and for his son.' Justin and Hailey will mark their seventh wedding anniversary on September 13.
