Another Air India's AI2491 Mumbai-Lucknow flight cancelled due to ‘operational reasons' amid crash probe underway
'AI2491 from Mumbai to Lucknow on 17 June 2025 was cancelled due to operational reasons and the cascading impact of flights which got diverted during the heavy rains in Delhi. Delayed arrival of diverted flights led to the operating crew coming under regulatory flight duty time limitations norms. Replacement crew could not be immediately arranged due to the weather-related delays and disruptions," Air India said in a statement.
The airline's spokesperson mentioned, 'Inconvenience caused to passengers is sincerely regretted and every effort has been made to minimise it by providing hotel accommodation to the affected passengers. Full refunds on cancellation or complimentary rescheduling was also offered to them if opted. Alternative arrangements are being made to fly the passengers to their destination Lucknow at the earliest.'
Seven international flights were cancelled on Tuesday. The total number of cancellations rose more than 80 since the devastating Ahmedabad crash, which has led to the aviation safety watchdog showcasing concerns about its maintenance practices.
While Air India cancelled six flights due to the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) inspections, a San Francisco-Kolkata-Mumbai service had to be cut short in Kolkata because of an engine snag on the Boeing 777-200 aircraft. Additionally, the airline stated that its Ahmedabad to London Gatwick flight was canceled due to a lack of available aircraft.
DGCA directed Air India to provide the training records of the pilots and dispatchers involved in flight AI171, which crashed just moments after takeoff from Ahmedabad to London on June 12. The tragedy, which claimed the lives of over 270 people onboard the Boeing 787 Dreamliner and on the ground, has triggered the airline's most severe crisis since its acquisition by the Tata Group three and a half years ago.
Civil aviation regulator DGCA stated it met senior officials of Air India and Air India Express, which runs more than 1,000 domestic and international flights daily, to assess "operational robustness" and 'ensure continued compliance with safety and passenger service regulations.'
"DGCA raised concerns regarding recent maintenance-related issues reported by Air India," the statement added, noting the regulator has urged the airline to strengthen internal coordination across engineering, operations, ground handling units and ensure availiablity of adequate spares to avoid passenger delays.
However, it said that recent checks on Air India's Boeing 787 fleet "did not reveal any major safety concerns". According to DGCA, 'The aircraft and associated maintenance systems were found to be in compliance with existing safety standards.'

Cotton prices fall after India lifts import duty
1 2 Nagpur: Rates of ginned cotton fell by Rs1,100 in two days after India lifted duty on imports until Sept 30. The Cotton Corporation of India (CCI), which is offloading the processed cotton, cut prices by Rs 600 a candy (per 356kg) on Tuesday, followed by another Rs 500 cut on Wednesday. After two consecutive cuts, the rates have come down to the range of Rs55,200 to Rs56,900 a candy. CCI, which purchases cotton at the minimum support price (MSP) as part of market intervention measures when the rates are low, later sells processed candies in the open market. As the move comes amid the ongoing US tariff war, falling cotton price has left farmers worried. If the rates of processed cotton fall, farmers may fetch lower prices for raw cotton during the harvest time in October. Even a temporary dismantling of duty may impact cotton prices, admit traders. The US is sitting on a stock of 2.87million tonne and of which it plans to export nearly 2.72million tonne. Exports have just begun with 40,000 tonne cotton shipped till last week, said a source. Till August first week it has exported to Vietnam, Bangladesh, Turkey, Pakistan and Mexico. The highest exports have been to Vietnam at 25 lakh tonne. Roshan Kothari, a member of an Agriculture Produce Marketing Committee (APMC) at Wani tehsil of cotton growing Yavatmal district, said if the rates fall private ginners will have to further lower raw cotton rates. "In case the govt extends import duty benefit to consignments booked or loaded in vessels before Sept 30, a major jump in imports can be expected. This would lower the local prices during harvest time in October," he said. As the rates fall, private ginners may not be able to buy raw cotton at MSP, which is fixed at Rs8,110 a quintal. Even for CCI to profit after purchasing at MSP, the rates per candy of processed cotton must be at Rs65,000, said Kothari. Business-class comfort on low-cost flights soon
Kolkata: Days after Emirates and Thai Vietjet announced four-class and three-class cabin configurations on their respective flights to Dubai and Bangkok, domestic carrier IndiGo Airlines announced a two-class configuration in its cabin on flights to Delhi and Mumbai. At present, Air India offers business class seats on its flights, while Air India Express has business class on select flights to Chennai, Bengaluru, and Jaipur. Travel agents in Kolkata said the introduction of business class on 11 flights to Delhi starting Sept 12 and on three flights to Mumbai from Sept 16 has triggered excitement among flyers. Executives, businessmen, and traders who prefer flying IndiGo because the airline offers the highest frequency on most sectors, said they were willing to pay more for better comfort. "Jet Airways set the benchmark in business class. Kingfisher also had a good product. After the two went bust, there was Vistara and Air India. After the merger, only AI had business class. But since it did not have many flights, passengers had to compromise on flexibility of travel to avail of it. The introduction of business class by IndiGo will make a big difference," said Travel Agents Federation of India national executive committee member Anil Punjabi. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Your Finger Shape Says a Lot About Your Personality, Read Now Tips and Tricks Undo You Can Also Check: Kolkata AQI | Weather in Kolkata | Bank Holidays in Kolkata | Public Holidays in Kolkata | Gold Rates Today in Kolkata | Silver Rates Today in Kolkata SpiceJet does have a product called SpiceMax that offers greater legroom and priority check-in, but it is essentially a premium economy offering. While all 11 daily flights that IndiGo operates to Delhi from Kolkata will offer IndiGo Stretch, which includes meals and beverages, higher baggage allowance, and priority check-in, only three out of eight flights will offer business class. "As more aircraft with twin configurations are available, more flights to Mumbai will offer business class," said an official. In addition to Stretch, the airline has a Stretch+ offering that provides an even higher baggage allowance and lower cancellation fee. Travel Agent Association of India chairman (east) Anjani Dhanuka said the business class offering would do well as business class in Air India flights from Kolkata have an average occupancy of 65-70%, with some Delhi and Mumbai-bound flights going full. "At present, people who wanted extra legroom on IndiGo flights used to pay for first row or emergency seats. Those travelling to Delhi or Mumbai will now buy business class seats. There is also a good demand on the Kolkata-Bengaluru sector where IndiGo has 10 flights a day," he said. Stay updated with the latest local news from your city on Times of India (TOI).
