Car bursts into flames after crash in Gua Musang
Gua Musang police chief Superintendent Sik Choon Foo in a statement here today said in the 9.15pm incident, the engine of the Honda Accord driven by the 25-year-old man began to spark and then ignited.
He said police were alerted to the road accident involving a car travelling from Kampung Limau Kasturi towards Gua Musang.
"Upon arriving at the scene, the driver had lost control of the vehicle, causing it to skid and crash into a concrete block at the roadside. Due to the impact, the driver sustained minor chest injuries and was taken to Gua Musang Hospital for initial treatment," he said. – BERNAMA

Gan Kin In, 80, said he and his wife, Kek Ley Lan, expressed gratitude to the Malaysian and Thai governments, along with other relevant agencies, for their assistance following the incident involving their daughter and her boyfriend. "We have been in Bangkok for the past week. The Malaysian government, through the Embassy, has given us constant support, while the Thai side, through the Tourist Police and the Tourism and Sports Ministry, has provided transportation and accommodation,' he told Bernama on Friday. The two Malaysians, Gan Xiao Zhen, 27, and her boyfriend Ong Yik Leong, 26, were attacked by an unemployed man who allegedly doused them with thinner before setting them alight near a shopping mall on Ratchadamri Road at about 10 pm on Aug 7. However, Kin In said they were worried about the medical expenses, which had already reached around 150,000 baht after just over a week of treatment at King Chulalongkorn Memorial Hospital. He said the Thai government had agreed to provide total compensation of up to 550,000 baht per person. "We are worried that the total amount of compensation may not be enough to cover the total medical costs here, as the charges are quite high,' he said. Kin In, a retiree, added that doctors were not optimistic about allowing the victims to be transferred back to Malaysia anytime soon. "Yesterday, Xiao Zhen had a fever and high blood pressure, but she has recovered today. Her condition is now more stable, and if her health permits, doctors will carry out minor skin operations in phases,' he said. In the latest update on Xiao Zhen's condition, Kin In said doctors estimated it would take around two months for her to recover after the skin graft procedures, which would need to be done in stages to minimise pain and discomfort. Police bust heroin lab in Bukit Tambun, arrest three suspects
NIBONG TEBAL: Police arrested three men and uncovered a heroin processing laboratory in Bukit Tambun during two raids on Tuesday. The suspects included two locals and a Sri Lankan national, aged between 25 and 46. Seberang Perai Selatan district police chief Superintendent Jay January Siowou confirmed the arrests following intelligence-led operations. In the first raid at Taman Tambun Permai, police seized 1,113 grammes of heroin and 641 grammes of heroin base. Authorities also confiscated four kilogrammes of caffeine and various drug-processing chemicals and equipment. The second raid nearby led to the arrest of a Sri Lankan man with 26 kg of caffeine. The total value of the seized drugs was estimated at RM74,500. Investigations revealed the first location was a heroin processing lab, with one local suspect as the mastermind. The other two suspects allegedly worked as assistants and couriers for the syndicate. Police believe the syndicate had been active since January, supplying heroin to the local market. Both local suspects had prior drug and criminal records, while the Sri Lankan national had no previous offences. The seized drugs could potentially supply 49,500 addicts, according to police estimates. Four vehicles, including a Toyota Vellfire and Honda Civic, were also confiscated, valued at RM134,500. The total haul from the raids, including drugs and vehicles, amounted to RM209,000. All three suspects have been remanded for seven days until August 19 for further investigations. The case is being probed under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952, which carries the death penalty upon conviction. - Bernama
