Dharmasthala murders: Will not yield to any pressure, says K'taka CM
Dharmasthala is a famous Hindu pilgrimage centre in Karnataka.
Responding to demands by a retired judge for an SIT probe, he said the government will take legal action in the matter. "We can't take action by ignoring the law."
"The individual connected to the case came forward and gave a statement to the police after remaining absconding for ten years. He has recorded his statement before the authorities. In his statement he had stated that he had buried dead bodies and he is ready to show the places. The government will consult the police department and then decide on setting up an SIT. The investigation will proceed strictly according to the law, and the government will not yield to any kind of pressure,' CM Siddaramaiah assured.
On July 11, the unidentified complainant, who had claimed that he was forced to bury several bodies of women who were raped and murdered in Dharmasthala village appeared before a court in Karnataka's Mangaluru district, and recorded his statement.
The man submitted his statement under Section 183 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) before Principal Civil Judge and First Class Judicial Magistrate Sandesh K.
He was accompanied by a group of lawyers and police personnel and entered the court with his face covered. The development had sparked a major controversy.
He requested that the police exhume the bodies in his presence.
The complainant also sought protection for himself and his family.
According to his statement, he fled Dharmasthala 11 years ago.
He further alleged that the bodies of the women showed clear signs of sexual assault.
They were found without clothes or undergarments and bore injuries suggesting violent acts. The revelations have shocked the state.
A retired Supreme Court judge and activists demanded a Special Investigation Team (SIT) probe monitored by the Supreme Court or the High Court into the shocking murders involving many women and others.

Fugitive in Delhi jewellery heist arrested after month-long manhunt
A 22-year-old fugitive wanted in connection with a violent armed robbery in North West Delhi's Subhash Place area has been arrested by the Crime Branch of the Delhi Police, authorities said Saturday. The suspect, identified as Shivam, had been evading capture since June 12, when he and two others allegedly stabbed a jewellery salesman and fled with gold and silver ornaments worth more than Rs 50 lakh. Police said Shivam was apprehended near Sati Nagar in Agra following surveillance and targeted raids. A case was registered under sections 309(4), 309(6), 317(2), 311, 3(5), and 61(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, officials said. One of the accused, Jitender, was arrested shortly after the incident, along with two alleged co-conspirators, Vijay Kumar and Vishal Sain. Shivam, however, managed to escape and remained on the run for over a month. The breakthrough came after Head Constable Raj Aryan received a tip-off about Shivam's possible location. 'Raids were conducted at all possible hideouts of the accused. Activities of all the friends and relatives of the accused were monitored covertly,' said DCP (Crime) Harsh Indora. 'Based on technical surveillance and local intelligence gathered by HC Raj Aryan and his team, it was established that the accused Shivam can be found near Sati Nagar in Agra. The team laid a trap near Sati Nagar and nabbed the accused. He confessed about his involvement in the aforesaid case of armed robbery and thus was arrested under Section 35.1(c) of the BNSS,' Indora added. During questioning, Shivam allegedly admitted that he turned to crime following the death of his father, which had plunged his family into financial crisis. Though he had previously worked as an air conditioning technician and at a clothing store in Rohini, police said his income was insufficient. According to the officials, he claimed he was introduced to crime by a neighbour named Kayam and later joined Jitender and others to plan the heist, driven by the allure of quick money and a more comfortable life.

Tirupati Board Suspends 4 Non-Hindu Employees, Members Welcome Decision
The Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams (TTD), the administrative body that oversees the Sri Venkateswara Temple in Andhra Pradesh's Tirumala, suspended four employees on Saturday over allegations that they were following religions other than Hinduism, which is a direct violation of the institution's code of conduct. The TTD's decision comes in the wake of internal inquiries and a report submitted by its Vigilance Department. The employees' alleged practice of non-Hindu religious faiths is considered a breach of the institution's code of conduct, which mandates that individuals employed within the TTD system must adhere to the tenets of the Hindu faith in both conduct and practice. "In this context, after examining the report submitted by the TTD Vigilance Department, action was taken against them as per the rules and the four employees were immediately suspended," stated a press release issued by the Chief Public Relations Officer (CPRO) of TTD, Tirupati. The TTD has a long-standing rule, reinforced in 2007, which mandates only Hindu employees for its workforce. Bhanu Prakash, BJP TTD Board member supported the suspension and alleged that these employees lacked faith in Hinduism. He said they were using the deity's resources while maintaining faith in other religions. He said that their struggle would continue until the last non-Hindu employee is removed. In a meeting chaired by TTD Chairman B R Naidu, the Board decided to transfer the non-Hindu employees to other government departments or offer them voluntary retirement (VRS). Earlier this July, the Board had suspended its Assistant Executive Officer (AEO) with immediate effect for allegedly practising another faith in his hometown in Tirupati district. In February this year, the TTD Board took action against 18 non-Hindu employees, who allegedly followed other religions despite taking an oath to uphold and follow the Hindu faith when they joined. All of them were barred from taking part in religious activity of the temple and take a transfer to positions that are not connected to the temple.
