T.N. Planning Commission submits four reports to Chief Minister M.K. Stalin
One of the reports called for profiling and data organisation of all mines in Tamil Nadu urgently to facilitate large-scale land-use planning. The report 'Mapping Mines in Tamil Nadu — Assessing their Restoration Potential' said the process could begin with mines exceeding a certain size threshold. Calling for collecting the details of all mines and capturing drone images, it said detailed and up-to-date information about mines would streamline the study and planning process for restoration and land-use planning at the State-level.
Deputy Chief Minister and SPC's ex-officio Vice-Chairperson Udhayanidhi Stalin, SPC's executive chairperson J. Jeyaranjan, and senior officials submitted the reports to the Chief Minister.
The report 'Child Nutrition — Key Challenges and Strategies' recommended emphasis on improving linear growth among children to reduce stunting, with a focus on early-life interventions. It called for focus on the first 1,000 days of life but also stressed extending interventions to pre-pregnancy and adolescence. Regular monitoring of children for weight, height, and mid-upper arm circumference, improving dietary diversity for young children were among the recommendations.
The report 'Urban Growth and Thermal Stress: A Decadal Assessment of Built-up Area and Climate Interactions in Tamil Nadu' called for a comprehensive heat mitigation strategy for the State. It recommended community engagement, data-driven monitoring, block-level interventions, building construction guidelines, and urbanisation regulations. The regulations include urban infrastructure and land-use planning, urban building construction guidelines, hilly region construction regulations, rural area construction standards, and retrofitting existing structures, among others.
The 'Framework for Nature-based Solutions for Enhanced Urban Resilience in Tier 2 Cities of Tamil Nadu - Framework Report' said that Tamil Nadu reflected the global trends vividly with its Tier 2 cities experiencing accelerated economic and demographic expansion. 'This urban growth, however, is contrasted against rising climate risks including urban floods, decline in groundwater, cyclones and ecological fragmentation, calling for urgent, sustainable, and resilient urban planning approaches,' it said.
The proposed framework developed jointly by TN-SLURB, GIZ and CUBE presented a strategic and technical framework for mainstreaming NBS into the urban planning systems of Tier 2 cities in Tamil Nadu, it said.

Of the four photographs, three were of deputy chief minister Keshav Prasad Maurya's meeting with Union home minister Amit Shah on July 8, with defence minister Rajnath Singh on July 9 and with Governor Anandiben Patel on July 11. The fourth photograph was that of deputy chief minister Brajesh Pathak also meeting Amit Shah, but on July 17. Even as politics behind such meetings of the Deputy CMs was being decoded by political pundits and party workers alike, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath also went to Delhi on Saturday and met Prime Minister Narendra Modi, home minister Amit Shah and BJP president JP Nadda. According to sources, the CM discussed UP's development projects with the PM. One thing appears certain is that the central leadership has now decided to take up the long-due issues around UP. Sources said that many developments were expected to take place both at the national as well as at the state level, like election of new national BJP chief, a new UP BJP president and reshuffles at the govt level both at the Centre and in the state. Discussions around UP-centric issues would have certainly come up during these meetings, sources said, adding that out of 37 BJP organisational states, new BJP chief have been finalised in at least 33, barring states like UP, Gujarat and Delhi. Sources said discussion was also possible around developments expected to come up after the UP BJP election like reshuffle and changes at organisational level. Once the national BJP chief is elected, there will be changes at the organisational level and since UP would go to assembly elections in 2027, who all from the state would make it to the national team would be interesting to see. Similarly, the key components of reshuffle will also be in focus during discussions. Discussions kicked off among BJP cadre and political observers on July 9 when the photograph of Maurya meeting Shah from Maurya's X handle went viral. Though there was nothing new in the photograph, it was the caption – which said that he had a discussion around repeating 2017 (victory) in 2027 – that made political pundits believe that he could be back as UP BJP chief. Since Maurya is a strong OBC face of the BJP and could be the BJP's bet to counter Samajwadi Party president Akhilesh Yadav's by and large successful PDA narrative, speculations around his comeback in the organisation looked prudent to many. Sources in the party, however, claimed that a decision on the new UP BJP chief was yet to be taken. The belief that something is cooking in Delhi around UP was further consolidated when about a week after Maurya's meeting, the other deputy chief minister Brajesh Pathak also met Shah in Delhi. It is certain that UP is back in BJP's focus as CM Yogi has also met Modi, Shah and Nadda. After Yogi, Bhupendra Chaudhary and Dharampal Saini are expected to meet BJP's top brass in Delhi on Sunday.

335 UP Board schools to lose recognition
Prayagraj: Uttar Pradesh Board of Secondary Education has decided to revoke the recognition of 335 schools before the 2026 board exams if they fail to provide valid reasons for having zero student enrolment over the past three years and no candidates for the Class 10 and 12 exams. UP board secretary, Bhagwati Singh, said strict action would be taken in accordance with the rules against these non-functional schools. This decision follows a similar initiative in Dec 2022, when former secretary Dibyakant Shukla identified 178 schools with zero enrolment and served them notices, eventually leading to the cancellation of their recognition. In addition, schools where mass cheating was detected during the Class 10 and 12 board exams may also face revocation of recognition. The UP Public Examination (Prevention of Malpractices) Act, 2024, which introduced stricter penalties, was enforced for the first time during the 2025 board exams. The board has granted recognition to 32 new unaided secondary schools across the state. Some of these schools have also received approval for additional classes and subjects. The board's recognition committee had earlier reviewed proposals for 41 schools, of which nine were not granted recognition. This latest round of recognition applies to the 2027 academic year, and student registration has already begun in the institutions.

All 380 registration offices to have own bldgs: UP min
Varanasi: UP minister Ravindra Jaiswal on Saturday said all 380 registration offices in the state will have their own buildings embellished with world-class facilities. He said this while inaugurating and laying the foundation for eight registration office buildings costing Rs 18.56 crore. He remotely inaugurated the newly built sub-registrar office in Sagri, Azamgarh district. Additionally, he laid foundation stones for the assistant inspector general registration office and sub-registrar offices across various locations including Chandauli, Shravasti, Jay Singhpur, Maholi, Ramsanehighat, Lambhua, Sawayajpur, and Shravasti. "The decision to operate all 380 registration offices in Uttar Pradesh in their own buildings was made under the guidance of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, with the aim of providing better facilities to the public. The registration offices will be hi-tech and equipped with modern facilities," he said. He said letters regarding the construction of registration offices were received from district representatives and officials, and arrangements for their own buildings are being ensured in those districts. "The foundation stone for the state's registration office will be laid in Lucknow on Wednesday," he said. The minister instructed the engineers of the executing agency to ensure that the construction of the buildings is completed on time and with directed officials that third-party inspections be conducted to ensure quality in construction work. All buildings will have the same colour, and there will be provisions for solar energy and water harvesting. Jaiswal instructed the sub-registrars to ensure cordial behaviour with people visiting the offices and to simplify and resolve their tasks. Additionally, he emphasised providing the best possible facilities to people. He assured arrangements to address staff shortages in registration offices to prevent work disruptions. During the programme, Dhirendra Kumar Saini, Assistant Inspector General Registration, Rajesh Kumar Singh, Assistant Inspector General Registration, Jaunpur, Pankaj Kumar Singh, Assistant Inspector General Registration, Bhadohi, Richa Pandey, Sub-Registrar First, Varanasi, Anil Kumar Mishra, Sub-Registrar, Gangapur Varanasi, Santosh Kumar Pandey, Sub-Registrar Sadar Jaunpur, Rakesh Kumar Mishra, Sub-Registrar, Madiyahu, Jaunpur, and District Informatics Officer Avinash Sharma were present.
