Despite the efforts of the emergency services and staff from an air ambulance, the boy died in hospital.
Police said two boys aged 14 and 16 are under arrest on suspicion of murder and a girl, 14, and woman, 37, are being held on suspicion of assisting an offender.
Officers were first called to Nevin Road, New Moston, at about 5pm on Sunday, Greater Manchester Police (GMP) said.
Police said early investigations established the identities of possible suspects and after attending a nearby address, the woman was arrested on suspicion of assisting an offender.
A short time later the two boys were arrested on suspicion of murder. The teenage girl was arrested overnight, GMP said.
All four remain in custody for questioning.
Detective Chief Inspector John Charlton of GMP said: 'This incident will have shocked and saddened the local community, and distressed anyone who witnessed it.
'We are deploying significant resources to this murder investigation, and this led to quickly identifying potential suspects.
'We are still trying to establish the full circumstances around the incident – there will be a large police presence and several scenes in place while we continue to investigate this horrific incident.
'The boy's family are being supported by our officers and we are determined to give them the answers they deserve.
'We will provide updates to the family and the community as the investigation continues.
'Despite making several arrests, this is still a live investigation, and we are looking for information, doorbell or dashcam footage, or eye-witness accounts from anyone who was in the area at the time quoting log 2250 of 8/6/25.'
Information can be reported by calling 101, using the GMP website or anonymously via the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.

US Marshals escalate manhunt for fugitive dad wanted in daughters' murders

The U.S. Marshals Service has activated its elite Rapidly Advancing Manhunt (RAM) program in the urgent search for Travis Decker, wanted in connection with the murder of his three daughters in Washington state. The RAM program, according to the U.S. Marshals Service, is designed to expedite the capture of violent fugitives through real-time intelligence coordination and rapid deployment of specialized teams, is fully engaged in the effort to apprehend Decker. More than 100 officers from federal, state, and local agencies are actively involved in the manhunt in an intensive search effort that includes aerial surveillance, tracking dogs and backcountry patrols. The Marshals Service is offering up to $20,000 for information directly relating to Decker's arrest. The U.S. Marshals' continued involvement comes as the Chelan County Sheriff's Office confirmed that they have assumed the role of lead investigative agency in the girls' killings. In a clarification issued Wednesday, the department shared with Fox News Digital that the Wenatchee Police Department is no longer the lead agency in the killings. The shift in jurisdiction comes as the investigation continues to focus on rugged wilderness areas within Chelan County, where Decker was last seen. On Tuesday, June 10, authorities announced that they were zeroing in on the Army veteran. On Monday, the agency received a tip from a group of hikers of a man who appeared evasive and unprepared near the Ingalls Creek and Valley High areas late Monday night, according to the Chelan County Sheriff's Office (CCSO). "Our office recently received a tip from a hiking party who stated they spotted a lone hiker in the Enchantments area who appeared to be ill-prepared for trail and weather conditions, and appeared to be avoiding others," the sheriff's office said in a press release. Authorities subsequently acted on the tip and "spotted a lone, off-trail hiker from a helicopter near Colchuck Lake who ran from sight as the helicopter passed," CCSO said. Search teams were able to establish a trail and deploy K9s throughout the area, leading them to Ingalls Creek. SEE IT: PHOTOS OF THE SEARCH The wooded area is located approximately 30 miles from Rock Island Campground, where the bodies of Decker's three daughters, Paityn, 9, Evelyn, 8, and Olivia, 5, were found on June 2. The bodies were found three days after they did not return to their mother following a court-approved visit with Decker. GET REAL-TIME UPDATES DIRECTLY ON THE TRUE CRIME HUB Authorities said Decker, a former Army infantryman with survival skills, may have used his rugged survivalist capabilities to evade capture. Authorities previously described him as "dangerous," warning residents not to approach him and describing him as armed. "This is someone with military training, someone who's lived off-grid before," Chelan County Sheriff Mike Morrison said. "We're dealing with a highly capable survivalist who may be using the terrain to his advantage." If convicted, Decker could face a maximum sentence of life in prison without the possibility of parole.

Investigation into former Colorado school official confirms purchase of child pornography

A criminal investigation into a former Colorado school official found that he purchased child pornography, but did not appear to have any criminal contact with juveniles. Former Jeffco Chief of Schools David Weiss was fired last December amid an investigation into the possible purchase of child pornography. According to the Jefferson County Sheriff's Office, they received a cyber tip from a financial brokerage, alerting them that Weiss used bitcoin to purchase child pornography in 2024. Former Jeffco Public Schools Chief of Schools David Weiss Jeffco Public Schools Investigators searched his home on Dec. 19 and confiscated Weiss's electronic devices, including computers, iPads and cellphones. Weiss's electronics were sent to the Rocky Mountain Regional Computer Forensics Lab for analysis. Because of the nature of his job, investigators also notified the Jefferson County R-1 School District, where Weiss was employed. The sheriff's office said the school district cooperated with the investigation. According to the sheriff's office, an out-of-state law enforcement agency contacted them around a week later to notify them Weiss had committed suicide. The sheriff's office released the findings of their investigation Wednesday, stating, "This process was lengthy and took several months to complete. While there was evidence that Weiss purchased child pornography, there was no evidence showing any direct physical or online contact with juveniles."
