Netflix fans obsessed with new prison drama compared to The Godfather with ‘phenomenal acting and chemistry'

Daily Mail25-04-2025
Netflix fans are obsessed with a new prison drama compared to The Godfather with 'phenomenal acting and chemistry'.
Italian series, The Sea Beyond, recently hit the popular streaming platform despite premiering back in 2020.
The drama follows two teenagers, Carmine (Massimiliano Caiazzo) and Filippo (Nicolas Maupas), in a juvenile detention centre in Naples.
The 'young Neapolitans navigate friendship, love and dreams of a better tomorrow,' according to the synopsis.
Filippo hopes to one day become a musician and Carmine wants to be a hairdresser, but both have to deal with crime boss Ciro (Giacomo Giorgio) too.
The Sea Byeond consists of four seasons and has been highly praised by viewers.

Many have taken to IMDb to leave reviews and one fan posted: 'I have to say the acting is phenomenal considering the actors are newbies. It's a story about love, hate and revenge.
'Young teenagers making mistakes and learning from them, making friends and memories along the way.
'The chemistry between couples like Rosa & Carmine and Cardio & Gemma is just perfect. The first season was really sad.
'The second season was good and the third season was the best. Rosa honestly carried the third season I love her character.
'I hope Edoardo ends up with Carmela. I do have to say there is a lot of unnecessary nudity in the third season. Overall i love the soundtrack and the actors.
'You feel sympathetic towards the characters as you watch them. It's an addicting show.'
While another likened the show to The Godfather and said: 'It does hold your interest in a hard to explain way.
'The plot is like The Godfather for kiddies, except these "juveniles" look anything but juvenile, perhaps young adults in their mid twenties at least.
'They are also the best dressed juvenile delinquents. Ciro and Eduardo have a permanent frown, as all of the characters have their quirks.'
The Sea Byeond consists of four seasons and has been highly praised by fans, many of whom have taken to IMBd to leave reviews
Others on Google reviews said: 'The storylines, the growth of characters and drama are impeccable for it is reality of life in the making of great writers and all production.
'I can relate to all these characters for it is riveting how these characters intertwine in the story lines. Must watch series.'
'Great series, it's one of the best series I've ever seen.'
While someone else wasn't so impressed and penned: 'Depressing series nothing good happen at all.'
Another drama, Collateral, has gripped Netflix fans too and some have ended up binge-watching every single episode in one day.
The four-part TV show, created and written by David Hare, hit our screens in 2018 on BBC Two.
Telly fans will be happy to know that despite it being released seven years ago on the Beeb, they are now able to watch it on streaming service Netflix.
Netflix's official synopsis reads: 'Investigating the murder of a pizza delivery man, a London detective uncovers a tangled conspiracy involving drug dealers, smugglers and spies.'
The drama is directed by S.J Clarkson.
Collateral boasts a star-studded cast of Carey Mulligan, John Simm, Billie Piper, Nicola Walker, Kae Alexander, Nathaniel Martello-White, Ben Miles, Vineeta Rishi and Rob Jarvis.

Pride and Prejudiced! Scots star Freya Mavor's dramatic reveal

Film and TV adaptations of Jane Austen's classic novel Pride and Prejudice are some of the most famous period dramas ever to grace the silver screen. However, despite being cast in the latest incarnation of the renowned love story, Scots actress Freya Mavor has admitted she isn't the biggest fan of the genre. Due to be broadcast by streaming giant Netflix, the new show also features The Crown stars Olivia Colman and Emma Corrin, as well as fellow Scot Jack Lowden, who takesa on the role of the brooding Mr Darcy. And it isn't the first time Mavor has taken part in a period drama. She is currently starring as a duplicitous thief in BBC series Marie Antoinette. However, discussing what similar TV shows and films she has watched in preparation for her role on the Beeb, Ms Mavor admitted it isn't a TV genre she consumes much of. Discussing her preparation for her role on Marie Antoinette, Ms Mavor told the Mail on Sunday: 'I definitely didn't do any period drama watching for research. 'I definitely did much more like reading and I also sort of watched other things that would inspire me for her character and for her role in the world.' She added: 'To be fair, I'm not a huge watcher of period dramas.' However, Ms Mavor was quick to point out that despite not watching many of them, she finds those she has seen 'gripping'. She said: 'Amazingly done period dramas [are] so gripping. The other worldliness of them is always very like enticing.' Ms Mavor will play Jane Bennet in the Regency drama, following in the footsteps of Maureen O'Sullivan, Rosamund Pike and Susannah Harker, who have all played the role on screen. Her cast-member Emma Corrin meanwhile will play the lead role of Elizabeth Bennet - a role made famous by the likes of Keira Knightley and Jennifer Ehle, who played the love interest to Colin Firth. Ms Mavor, 31, lived in La Rochelle in France after moving from Edinburgh when she was nine. She came back to Scotland's capital at 14 before leaving for Bristol to star in her breakout role, Mini in Channel 4 drama Skins. And it isn't just Ms Mavor who has starred in period dramas before. Lowden, from Oxton in the Borders, starred in Mary Queen of Scots - the film where he met his future wife Saoirse Ronan. His part as Mr Darcy will see him take on a role famously portrayed by Colin Firth.

'The song will be used on the show and be available to stream but there are no plans for a video or to send it to radio.' The American diva arrived in a shiny ombre dress and pink jacket, which featured the phrase 'protect the dolls' on the back, as she pledged her support to the trans community. Later, during her 90-minute set, she changed into another dazzling minidress, as well as a gold shift and floor-length black gown. Mariah told the crowd: 'The LGBTQ+ family, both as a community and as individuals have been here for me for so long. I just want you to know that I'll always, always be there for you.' Mariah Carey, 56, wears FOUR figure-hugging outfits and puts on leggy display as she headlines Brighton Pride The show, which featured hits including Fantasy and her new single Sugar Sweet, topped off a day of festivities, ahead of the second day yesterday which was headlined by Sugababes. Earlier on Saturday, Attitude magazine kicked off the annual event with a party at the i360 tower which was attended by Dame Kelly Holmes, Caity Baser and Rob Rinder. The rapper looked ready for take-off as she entered the ring to kick off the opening night of the WWE Summerslam 2025 wrestling extravaganza in New Jersey on Saturday. But rather than singing or fighting, Cardi was simply there to launch the event, teasing music from her upcoming second album Am I The Drama? As she strutted to the ring, a new Cardi track was blasted through the stadium, sending fans into a meltdown online. Her long-awaited follow-up to 2018's Invasion Of Privacy is out on September 19. Hope it's worth the wait. GAGA IN TRIBUTE TO OZZY 7 Lady Gaga reached out to Kelly Osbourne's family Credit: Getty DESPITE being in the middle of a world tour, Lady Gaga is finding time to support others. I'm told she was so moved by the death of Ozzy Osbourne that she sent a huge bouquet to his grieving wife Sharon and the family. The move is a full-circle moment for the two women after Sharon branded the hitmaker an attention-seeker in 2013. That came after Gaga locked horns with her daughter Kelly Osbourne after she criticised the singer for not stopping to greet fans. A source said: 'The flowers must have cost hundreds but Gaga wanted to reach out. 'Gaga has always been a huge fan of Ozzy and the Osbournes – before she was famous she even used to strip to Black Sabbath's Black Sabbath. "She once told Ozzy – he found it hilarious.' The kind gesture comes after Gaga closed her San Francisco show last month by belting out Ozzy's 1980 hit Crazy Train as a tribute. CHAPPELL SLINKS IN 7 Chappell Roan slipped into Oasis's latest London gig undetected Credit: Getty - Contributor SHE'S one of the biggest stars on the planet, but Chappell Roan was able to slip into Oasis's latest London gig undetected. The singer, who released new single The Subway last week, was seen in the crowd at Wembley on Saturday – singing away to the hits. Frank Lampard and Nicole Appleton also snubbed a swanky suite to mix with regular fans. OASIS fever is still sweeping the UK. Yesterday the Y Not Festival in Derbyshire was forced to upgrade tribute act Noasis to the main stage. They were due to play an 800-capacity slot but bosses had a rethink after more than double that number of guests saved the slot on their festival app. The Diana Mixtape musical @ Outernet, London ★★★★☆ 7 Hear'Say's Noel Sullivan and actress Lucinda Lawrence Credit: Supplied YOU might think a stage musical about Princess Diana would be sad, yet The Diana Mixtape is anything but. With five world-class drag queens from RuPaul's Drag Race playing the People's Princess while singing classics from Kylie, Lady Gaga and Billie Eilish, it's utterly joyous from start to finish. The crowd at Outernet London lapped it up. A shout out also needs to go to Hear'Say's Noel Sullivan and actress Lucinda Lawrence, for their Charles and Camilla romp to Dua Lipa's Physical. Hilarious. Greatest Showman star Keala Settle brought even more fun as Elizabeth II, but ultimately it was the queens who shone brightest. It's on at Outernet until Sunday then The Lowry, Salford, from August 19-21. OLIVIA RODRIGO's 2021 album Sour is still breaking records. The release has become the first album on Spotify to have four songs with more than two billion streams each. Traitor, Drivers License, Deja Vu and Good 4 U have all passed the milestone. Not bad for an album the US star wrote when she was just 17.
