Summer is here, and it is everyone's favorite time of the year, scouting time. Every year, we do Summer Scouting to preview college football for Vikings fans, but also give them an idea of names to follow and watch in the fall as needs pop up for Minnesota.
Are we going to write about quarterbacks? You know it, but why? Because other NFL teams will draft them, just as they will draft every other position. It all matters whether these players end up on the Vikings, the Bears, or the Steelers. We write these so Vikings fans can be the most informed fans.
So if you are still with us, enjoy our latest Summer Scouting report as we prepare you for the Fall.

Player Summary
Germie Bernard is another Alabama wide receiver with the makings of an NFL wide receiver. He took a while to make it to Tuscaloosa, but he made an impact in his lone season with the Crimson Tide. I really appreciate his contact balance, he shows both in terms of his blower body skills, as well as his strength. He also boasts strong hands, making him a quarterback's best friend and a reliable target at the next level. Where he could really thrive and develop is in the slot position as a wide receiver if he can focus his efforts there. Everything about his size and skillset makes me think that is what he is made for. Lots to watch on Alabama every fall, but don't forget about him.

Cardinals Bringing in Good Luck Charm Jon Gruden For Critical Cubs Series

Cardinals Bringing in Good Luck Charm Jon Gruden For Critical Cubs Series originally appeared on Athlon Sports. Fresh off an unexpected surge in local popularity during the St. Louis Blues' recent playoff run, Jon Gruden is set to throw out the ceremonial first pitch at Wednesday's Cardinals-Cubs showdown at Busch Stadium. Advertisement Gruden — a longtime NFL coach and fiery football personality who's kept his trademark intensity long after leaving the sidelines — now works as a sports personality for Barstool Sports. Gruden frequently gets sent large packages filled with gear and memorabilia from college and pro teams, which he unboxes on camera with his signature enthusiasm. His videos often include energetic shoutouts, nostalgic nods to team legends, and heartfelt appreciation for the gifts. Buccaneers head coach Jon Gruden holds up the Vince Lombardi Trophy after winning Super Bowl XXXVIII against the Oakland Raiders© ROBERT HANASHIRO / USA TODAY NETWORK Before the Blues' crucial Game 3 showdown against the Winnipeg Jets — trailing 0-2 in the series — Gruden appeared in a video on social media platform X, unboxing a package of team gear and delivering a jolt of energy. The clip quickly went viral, and Gruden leaned fully into his newfound bond with the Blues. Although the Blues were not able to pull away the series victory, losing the series 4-3 in shocking fashion, Gruden's love for St. Louis teams didn't slow down. On Wednesday, Gruden will be back in the city for a rivalry matchup between the St. Louis Cardinals (42-36) and the Chicago Cubs. The teams sit 3.5 games apart in the division with the Cubs holding a lead in the NL Central. The Cardinals sit one game behind the Milwaukee Brewers and will look to cut the Cubs lead by winning their four-game series. Advertisement The Cardinals exploded in Game 1 of the series on Monday, knocking four two-run homers en route to an 8-2 victory in St. Louis. Lars Nootbar hit his second home run in four games after going 16 games without one, and Willson Contreras went 3-for-4 in the batter's box to continue his hot start to the season. If Gruden's recent track record as a hype man is any indication, the Cardinals are hoping his presence at Busch Stadium can help spark another electric performance — and maybe even a little more magic in their push up the standings. 49ers' George Kittle Named Top 3 Tight End Draft Pick of Millennium

49ers' George Kittle Named Top 3 Tight End Draft Pick of Millennium originally appeared on Athlon Sports. The San Francisco 49ers know they have a gem in tight end George Kittle. There's no debate about that. Advertisement But Kittle was just named by Eric Edholm as the No. 3 tight end draft value of this millennium, behind only Travis Kelce and Rob Gronkowski. "The 2017 draft class featured some respectable receiving talent at tight end, including the likes of Evan Engram, David Njoku and Jonnu Smith," writes Edholm. "But by far the best in the group has been Kittle, who has more catches, yards and touchdowns than all of them -- and he's considered a more than capable blocker, too. The energetic Kittle caught only 48 passes in 40 college games at run-heavy Iowa, but he nearly matched that total (43) as a rookie with the 49ers. In seven seasons since then, he's averaged more than 70 catches per season, topping the 1,000-yard mark four times and earning six Pro Bowl nods. "Injuries have slowed Kittle at times, and his postseason production isn't quite as strong, but his credentials are above reproach, and he remains close to his peak entering his age-32 season, which was reflected in the top-of-the-market contract extension the 49ers signed Kittle to this spring." Across 113 regular season games in eight seasons, Kittle has 538 catches with 7,380 yards and 45 touchdowns. He's added six Pro Bowl nods and been named First-Team All-Pro twice and Second-Team All-Pro three times. Advertisement Last season, the former Iowa Hawkeye finished just outside the top 10 in Offensive Player of the Year voting. No. 3 All-Millennium seems pretty good for a fifth-round draft pick. Aaron Rodgers Sends Steelers Sneaky T.J. Watt Message Amid Retirement Announcement

Aaron Rodgers Sends Steelers Sneaky T.J. Watt Message Amid Retirement Announcement originally appeared on Athlon Sports. For this final Aaron Rodgers season to work, he needs every Pittsburgh Steelers force to be all hands on deck. Advertisement Thus, the new Steelers QB's sneaky message about T.J. Watt issued as part of Rodgers' blockbuster retirement announcement on Tuesday. If the Steelers are really "loading up'' to make a run? They need their pivotal defensive guy to be happy at least as much as their pivotal offensive guy is. So ... During a Tuesday appearance on "The Pat McAfee Show'' as the QB revealed that he is "pretty sure" he will retire after he spends the 2025 season with the Steelers, Rodgers also snuck in a subtle message to the Steelers regarding Watt's holdout wish contract extension. "Once we get our Hall of Fame outside rush-backer signed, you're talking about another guy who's a leader, not just by his example, but by his words," Rodgers said. Advertisement He was talking about Watt. He is talking to the Steelers. Pass rushers have enjoyed a massive jump in the market this NFL offseason. Maxx Crosby, Myles Garrett and eventually Micah Parsons and Trey Hendrickson are all examples of new contracts reaching up near $40 million annually for the position. Watt now wants a slice of the pie, too. ... and that is presently a problem. Watt, who is entering the final year of a four-year $112 million contract, was absent from offseason sessions as he campaigns for a new deal. The former Defensive Player of the Year previously had the record for the highest-paid contract at his position when he signed his current deal in 2021. This season, without an extension, he'll make $21.05 million on salary and cost $30.4 million total on the cap. Advertisement Watt, 30, is entering his ninth season in the league and remains one of the game's best defensive players. In 2024, he totaled 11.5 sacks and a league-leading six forced fumbles. He has, over the years, led the league in sacks a record three times and owns four First Team All-Pro honors to go with his 2021 DPOY. There is no question that Pittsburgh wants to keep him here and keep him happy. And now we know that Rodgers wants that very same thing.
