The Met Opera's 'Le Nozze di Figaro' Star Federica Lombardi Talks Travel and Opera
Evan Zimmerman/ Met Opera
Italian soprano Federica Lombardi stars as Countess Almaviva in the Metropolitan Opera's 'Le Nozze di Figaro' , streaming Live in HD to cinemas around the world on Saturday, April 26 at 1PM ET.
Hailing from Cesena, Italy, located in the Emilia-Romagna region of Italy, Federica made her Met debut as Donna Elvira in Don Giovanni in 2019. Currently praised as one of the most sought-after Mozartians, she is right at home singing in Le Nozze di Figaro at the Met.
At the Met, Federica has also performed as Musetta and Mimì in La Bohème, Elettra in Idomeneo, and Donna Anna in Don Giovanni.
In February of 2025, Federica took on the title role in Vienna's new production of Norma. Next season at the Met, she will return to again sing the role of Donna Anna in Don Giovanni.
I interviewed the Mozart-pro recently about her favorite spot in Rome, her pre-performance ritual, and more, below.
My favorite opera that's not my own is…
'Tosca.' It has everything! Drama, passion, and Puccini's music is glorious! 'Not my own' for now…I would love to be Tosca one day!
My pre-performance ritual is…
I need a few minutes completely alone. I breathe, I focus, and I remind myself why I love this so much.
After a performance, I…
Take off my makeup as fast as I can, change into something cozy, and eat something good!
My favorite kind of operagoer (does what)…
Listens with their heart. You can feel when someone is really, truly present—it gives you energy on stage.
The best piece of career advice I've gotten is…
'Never settle.' Always keep growing, and remember to keep learning. Remind yourself that there is no finish line in this career.
Get the most out of an opera by…
Listening with your ears and your eyes. Watch the singers' faces, the small gestures, the atmosphere —opera is theatre, just get completely involved.
My must-have travel item is…
My humidifier! It saves my voice when it's too dry.
My preferred way to destress is to…
Take a long walk, ideally in nature or a quiet city street, with good music in my ears.
The destination I love to travel to most for work is…
Vienna! There is a special magic in the air there. Vienna has such tradition and beauty. Also New York of course! The Met is something unique to me, I love the atmosphere in the theater. It's an extremely professional experience and the audience is amazing!
My favorite travel destination for vacation, not work is…
Anywhere by the sea in Italy. I need sun, good food, and the sound of waves.
My favorite restaurant is…where I can find a good pizza!
My favorite spot in Rome is…
The Orange Garden, located on the Aventine Hill. It has amazing views, and that silence—pure magic.

Is Taylor Swift about to enter her 12th era? She's going to be a guest on 'New Heights'
Taylor Swift may be swinging open the doors to an opulent era. The singer was announced as a surprise guest on this week's "New Heights" podcast. In a teaser video, what appears to be an album sits on a shelf behind her. It's black with an orange outline. In front of it is an orange square with "T.S." printed on it. Swift turns to Travis Kelce in a light blue sweater and says, "Such a nice color on you." He replies, "Yes I know, it's the color of your eyes, sweetie. It's why we match so well." "We're about to do a f***ing podcast," Swift responds. The full podcast will air at 7 p.m. ET on Aug. 13. Listeners can subscribe to watch here. New era? A countdown clock appeared on her website three hours before 12:12 a.m. on Aug. 12 sending fans into a spiral. A new album would be Swift's 12th. Swifties suspected the singer's next act was imminent after her in-house marketing account, Taylor Nation, shared an Instagram post the morning of August 11: "Thinking about when she said 'See you next era…' ❤️🔥." A photo carousel of 12 photos showcased her orange bodysuits and dresses from the Eras Tour and included one shot of her and Sabrina Carpenter from the surprise set section in New Orleans. Shortly before the Taylor Nation post, Travis Kelce's account and the "New Heights" podcast page shared a joint tease to a "VERY special guest" on an upcoming episode. A silhouette that looked like Swift sent her fandom into a tailspin of excitement. The image background was glittery orange, the same texture seen on her website with her letter reclaiming her entire catalog. Coming full circle, the podcast is where Travis told his brother Jason he tried to give Swift a friendship bracelet with his phone number. "This all started when Travis very adorably put me on blast on his podcast, which I thought was metal as hell," she said during her Time Magazine Person of the Year article. The two dated in secret before she appeared in an NFL suite at a Kansas City Chiefs and Chicago Bears game in September 2023. Kelce has become a conduit for Swift news She changed her lyrics for Kelce at the close of Eras Tour. Every time he was in the audience, she'd switch up the tune to "Karma is the guy on the Chiefs coming straight home to me." When she won video of the year at the Video Music Awards, she thanked him in her speech. "When I'd finish a take, and I'd say cut, and we'd be done with that take, I'd always just hear someone like cheering and like 'whoo' from across the studio," she said in the speech. "And that one person was my boyfriend Travis. Everything this man touches turns to happiness and fun and magic." When he co-hosted Tight End University in May, she crashed the stage with Kane Brown to close out the night with "Shake It Off." 'The drought was the very worst' It's been 555 days since Swift's last album announcement, "The Tortured Poets Department," which she revealed at the 2024 Grammy awards. Swift has been laying low with music news except for in May when she announed she had purchased the master recordings of her first six albums. In an open letter, she hinted at a new era of sequins and rhinestones worthy of Elizabeth Taylor. The "TS" letterhead was framed by a diamond. She spelled "thiiiiiiiiiiiis" with 12 i's. In her Eras Tour book, she began with a shot from her Paris concert where she debuted the orange body suit and finished her opening letter with "See you next era..." Fans noticed the countdown in France also turned orange before the opening sequence, and they clocked the "Karma" door appearing orange at the end of her show. Taylor Swift's website is counting down. Here's how she announced previous albums
It's been less than 12 hours since Taylor Swift's team painted social media orange and ignited the internet into another "new music is coming" inferno. And now a countdown on the singer's website has tossed a match into a gasoline-drenched fandom. The glittery orange backdrop is counting down to 12:12 a.m. ET on Aug. 12. When Swift releases a new album, it will be her 12th. The hints kept coming throughout the night as a clip featuring the singer on her boyfriend's podcast landed at 9 p.m. Swift's marketing team, Taylor Nation, posted a 12-photo carousel earlier this morning of red-orange outfits from the Eras Tour and included one of her and Sabrina Carpenter. The caption read, "Thinking about when she said, 'See you next era....'" with a burning heart emoji. Shortly before, Swift's boyfriend, Travis Kelce, and his podcast "New Heights" shared an image with a silhouette of a mystery guest and a bedazzled orange background. The episode will air Aug. 13, a date that happens to include Swift's favorite number. Her label, Republic Records, liked the post. Is Taylor Swift going to announce new music on the 'New Heights' podcast? Why fans think so. Travis Kelce and his brother Jason Kelce have been on a break from the podcast but are coming back for a "very special episode." In the clip released at 9 p.m. Swift is seated next to Travis Kelce. "Such a nice color on you," Swift says. "Yes, I know. It's the color of your eyes, sweetie," Travis responds. "It's why we match so well." "We're about to do a f***ing podcast," Swift says. On the first page of her Eras Tour book, Swift shared a photo of her in a red-orange bodysuit next to a letter she ended with the phrase, "See you next era..." In the letter, she said, "There's nothing I hate more than doing what I've always done." She's never announced an album on a podcast or included a boyfriend when sharing the news. 'We never painted by the numbers' Kayla Wong is a walking encyclopedia of dates and statistics surrounding Swift. The "Data Swiftie" has been compiling data since the singer released her first, self-titled album in 2016. "Looking back on how she's made official announcements, I don't consider her first two of debut and 'Fearless,' because in both cases she was talking about them for a while," Wong says over Zoom. "She announced 'Speak Now' on a live stream from Nashville. Same with 'Red.'" Wong walks through every release. "1989" was a livestream from New York City. For "Reputation," the singer deleted all of her social media to start again. "Lover" was a livestream. "Folklore" and "Evermore" were surprise announcements on social media, released within 24 hours of her posts. For the rerecord of "Fearless (Taylor's Version)," Swift submitted a video to Good Morning America. "Red (Taylor's Version)" was a social media post six months before the fall release. Then came her award show announcements. Swift revealed "Midnights" at the Video Music Awards, and "The Tortured Poets Department" at the Grammys. Finally, she announced "Speak Now (Taylor's Version)" and "1989 (Taylor's Version)" at stops along her record-shattering Eras Tour. "The average time between an announcement and release is 66 days," Wong says. "There have been a couple of anomalies, like 'Folklore' and 'Evermore' were one day between the announcement and the drop, and 'Red (Taylor's Version)' had a 147 day gap. But consistently she hits the two month mark." August seems to be a favored month of the business mogul. "For four of the albums, she announced in August and released in October," Wong says. "If you count an August announcement only, that has happened five times for 'Red,' '1989,' 'Reputation,' 'Midnights' and '1989 (Taylor's Version).'"
