Cal Raleigh delivered 4 hilarious words about kid who robbed HR Derby ball

USA Today5 days ago
It ultimately didn't matter on Monday at the 2025 MLB Home Run Derby: one of the kids tasked with shagging fly balls at the event in Atlanta leaped up to rob Junior Caminero of one of his dingers at the wall. The homer run was counted, so no harm, no foul.
And Cal Raleigh took down the Tampa Bay Rays rookie sensation with 18 dingers in the final round to Caminero's 15. So either way, it ultimately didn't matter that the kid jumped up to grab the ball.
That being said, that was all anyone could talk about after the contest. So what did Raleigh say after all that? He had to joke about it, and the punchline was perfect: "I paid him off."
Well played, Big Dumper.
What did Junior Caminero say about the kid who robbed his home run?
This is the best. Via MLB.com:
'Things happen,' Caminero said through an interpreter. 'He was enjoying himself out there too. He did something he thought was fun and it was fine.'
No big deal! It's fun! That's the spirit!

Baseball erupts after Cal Raleigh wins 2025 MLB Home Run Derby thriller

The post Baseball erupts after Cal Raleigh wins 2025 MLB Home Run Derby thriller appeared first on ClutchPoints. Cal Raleigh's dream season continued Monday night when the Seattle Mariners' slugger capped off a remarkable first half with a historic Home Run Derby performance. The All-Star catcher was the betting favorite to win the event after leading the majors in homers at the break. And Raleigh came through with a strong showing. After out-donging the competition over three rounds, Raleigh was crowned the 2025 Home Run Derby champion, per MLB. While the fifth-year veteran was expected to dominate the event, the Big Dumper barely made it out of the first round. Raleigh showed off his versatility by switching to the right side of the plate during Round 1 and then changing back to the left side for his bonus swings. However, he ended up in a tie with the Athletics' Brent Rooker as both players had 17 homers. In the first round, distance is the tiebreaker and the longest dong wins. Raleigh just edged out Rooker's 470.54-foot blast with a 470.62-foot bomb, narrowly advancing to the second round. Mariners' star Cal Raleigh makes Home Run Derby history But after just squeaking by early, the Mariners' backstop found his groove. Raleigh easily surpassed Pittsburgh Pirates' slugger Oneil Cruz in Round 2, mashing 19 homers to move onto the finals. Raleigh squared off against Junior Caminero in the championship round. He put the pressure on Caminero by opening with 18 dingers and, despite a strong effort from the Tampa Bay Rays third baseman, Raleigh emerged as the Derby champ. It's the latest achievement in a historic season for the Mariners' veteran. Raleigh is the first catcher and the first switch hitter to ever win the Home Run Derby, per Daniel Kramer of He's the first Mariner to win the competition since Ken Griffey Jr. took back-to-back titles in 1998 and 1999. Raleigh leads the majors with 38 bombs on the season. He fell just one blast short of joining Barry Bonds with the most home runs all-time before the All-Star break. Raleigh is on pace to leave the yard 65 times this season as he attempts to lead the Mariners to a Wild Card berth. Raleigh's epic Home Run Derby win got fans talking. Sports Analyst wrote: 'Best power-hitting catcher in MLB history' Juju was still upset about that tiebreaker: 'Brent Rooker was robbed.' RangersReports2 added: 'This was Mariners fans' World Series' The Chairman commented: 'Congrats Cal you put on a historic performance from both sides of the plate. Keep it going in the second half!' Rays score go-ahead run on throwing error in 4-3 victory over the Orioles

TAMPA, Fla. (AP) — Chandler Simpson had a tying RBI single and scored the go-ahead run on Ryan O'Hearn's throwing error in a three-run eighth inning in the Tampa Bay Rays' 4-3 victory over the Baltimore Orioles on Saturday night. Tampa Bay rallied after Seranthony Domínguez replaced Baltimore starter Dean Kremer to begin the eighth inning with the Orioles leading 2-1. Ha-Seong Kim had a leadoff single and a steal and scored on Simpson's single to center. Simpson stole second and advanced to third when José Caballero walked on a wild pitch. Caballero stole his 32nd base — tops in the majors — and Gregory Soto replaced Domínguez with the bases loaded. Jonathan Aranda hit a grounder to O'Hearn at first base, but his throw home was off target when Soto crossed his path allowing two to score for a 4-2 lead. Tyler O'Neill had a one-out double off Scott Fairbanks in the ninth and scored on Cedric Mullins' two-out single to get Baltimore within a run. Mullins swiped his 14th base before Fairbanks finished it for his 16th save in 19 opportunities. Kremer allowed one run on three hits in seven innings. Domínguez (2-3) retired one batter and allowed three runs — two earned. Tampa starter Zack Littell gave up two runs on seven hits in six innings. Edwin Uceta (6-2) pitched two scoreless innings for the win. Key moment Fairbanks sealed it when he retired Holliday on a 401-foot fly ball to center on a 3-2 pitch.
