Conway business owners say holiday decorations help sales during off season
CONWAY, S.C. (WBTW) — The city of Conway has transformed into the 'city of love' as town officials say decorating for the holidays helps attract visitors during the off season.
The ribbon cutting for the Conway Riverwalk expansion kicked off the city's Valentine's Day events, but they're showing love all week long.
June Wood, public information officer for the city of Conway, said Christmas decorations were taken down just after New Years, but some stuff got to stay.
'We've transitioned a lot of those lights into pink and purples and reds throughout the city,' Wood explained.
She said they started planning for Valentine's Day between Halloween and Christmas.
'We keep a lot of the canopy lights in the trees and some of the building lights we've left up,' Wood said of the decorations around the city.
She said this isn't the city's first year celebrating cupid's holiday, but each year gets bigger and better.
'We're going to have some gondola boat rides, we have some romantic movie nights that people can attend, we have a Valentine's Day village that people can come to and shop at,' Wood said. 'They'll be some unique Valentine's Day type of vendors they can come and enjoy.'
Wood also said the vendors for the village will be different from Christmas. Some include sweet treats, flowers, and even a kissing booth.
'We know those are ways to get people to want to come to the area, and our restaurants have told us they've seen an increase; our shops are open and changing their hours so they can accommodate those shoppers that are going to be here,' Wood said.
Sean Kobos, owner of Chanti's Pizza in Conway, said the decorations bring the city to life, giving visitors a reason to explore.
'We get a lot more tourism during those months, I've had people tell us they've came all the way from Ohio to see the city of Halloween,' Kobos said.
Kobos explained that during the winter months, business goes up by about 30%.
Wood said many business owners have told the city they're interested in moving their businesses to the area because they appreciate what it's doing.
If you're interested in going, the Valentine's Day Village will be open from 6 to 9 p.m. Thursday through Sunday.

Oppenheimer Raises Price Target on Cloudflare (NET), Maintains Outperform Rating
Cloudflare, Inc. (NYSE:NET) is one of the 10 tech stocks on Wall Street's radar right now. On June 5, Oppenheimer raised its price target on Cloudflare, Inc. (NYSE:NET) from $165 to $200 and maintained an Outperform rating after discussions with Phil Winslow, the company's VP of Strategic Finance & Investor Relations. The firm grew more optimistic about the company's growth prospects due to strong momentum in SASE (Secure Access Service Edge) security, boosted by Magic WAN adoption and improvements in CASB (Cloud Access Security Broker) and data loss prevention security features. The firm noted that the Worker platform's expanding capabilities have gained more traction among developers who favor the shift-left approach. Additionally, new AI-focused edge computing technologies like MCP and A2A, along with a new container service for AI workloads, are also some of the reasons for Oppenheimer's positive outlook. The firm is confident that Cloudflare (NYSE:NET) will exceed expectations for 2025, accelerate revenue growth beyond 30%, and reach a $5 billion ARR by the end of 2028. Roku, Inc. (ROKU): A Bull Case Theory
We came across a bullish thesis on Roku, Inc. (ROKU) on The Finance Corner's Substack by Kostadin Ristovski. In this article, we will summarize the bulls' thesis on ROKU. Roku, Inc. (ROKU)'s share was trading at $74.6 as of 5th June. Close up of a hand holding a tablet device with video services streaming. Roku, much like the classic razor-and-blades model, has positioned itself as a hardware gateway to a highly monetizable software ecosystem. Initially launched in 2008 to support Netflix, Roku began with low-cost streaming devices, eventually expanding into a broad lineup of physical products—from smart TVs and speakers to home accessories—sold at a loss to attract users. The real value lies in the Roku OS, which it licenses freely to TV manufacturers like TCL and Hisense, enabling Roku to grow its user base without owning hardware production. This feeds into its true moneymaker: the platform business. The Roku Channel, launched in 2017, now features over 80,000 titles and more than 500 live channels, all of which are ad-supported. The company also earns by taking cuts from streaming subscriptions and charging content providers for distribution and prominence. Unlike content-heavy rivals, Roku remains content-agnostic, focusing on being the go-to aggregator and ad platform in the streaming value chain. Strategic acquisitions in data analytics, content, and ad tech have strengthened this positioning. While Roku isn't profitable yet due to the drag from its hardware division and rapid pandemic-era expansion, its platform gross margin stands at 54%, and the company holds $1.7B in net cash. International growth, ad innovation (including shoppable ads via Walmart), and potential new verticals, such as gaming, suggest that revenue can continue to grow at a rate of nearly 10% annually. Despite trading near its estimated fair value, Roku presents a compelling case due to operating leverage, potential margin expansion, and even acquisition interest. Investors face dilution risks and limited governance, but the long-term digital ad tailwinds remain highly attractive. Previously, we covered a on Roku by LongYield in May 2025, which aligns with Kostadin Ristovski's June 2025 view. The stock has since then appreciated by approximately 23%. Both highlight Roku's high-margin platform business and ad monetization strength. LongYield focuses on improving financials, guidance, and recent acquisitions, while Ristovski emphasizes Roku's razor-and-blades model, OS distribution, and long-term operating leverage. The theses reinforce each other but differ in focus—one near-term execution, the other strategic positioning. Roku, Inc. (ROKU) is not on our list of the 30 Most Popular Stocks Among Hedge Funds. As per our database, 56 hedge fund portfolios held ROKU at the end of the first quarter which was 37 in the previous quarter. While we acknowledge the risk and potential of ROKU as an investment, our conviction lies in the belief that some AI stocks hold greater promise for delivering higher returns and have limited downside risk.
