New Delhi Police chief orders daily foot patrols by senior officers
An officer familiar with the directive said the patrols will take place from 4.30pm to 6.30pm. 'The CP stressed that senior officers must also be seen on the ground, not just the lower ranks,' the officer said.
Singh also instructed that two officials — including a woman officer — must be present at all times at the public facilitation desk in every police station. While the woman officer will attend to complaints related to women, the second official will handle cybercrime related grievances.
In a bid to uphold the force's integrity, the commissioner asked assistant commissioners of police (ACPs) to keep a close watch on sub-inspectors in their jurisdictions. 'He flagged concerns over recent arrests of Delhi Police officials by the Central Bureau of Investigation on corruption charges and said ACPs must monitor investigating officers more closely, especially sub-inspectors,' said another officer present at the meeting.
The commissioner further told DCPs to inspect police stations in their districts regularly, not sporadically, and to ensure proper upkeep of facilities. 'He emphasised that police stations must maintain basic infrastructure standards and that public facilitation desks should be clean, staffed and fully functional,' the officer added.
Singh also reviewed the Independence Day security preparations and instructed DCPs to step up security checks in their respective areas.

Imphal: Security forces in Manipur have intensified their crackdown on underground activities and criminal networks targeting insurgents, arms smugglers and vehicle lifters across the state and arrested insurgents and criminals in Imphal West and East in the past two days. On Aug 5, an active cadre of the banned outfit Kanglei Yawol Kanna Lup (KYKL), identified as Sagolsem Hemanta Singh (41) of Phumlou Keiroi Maning Leikai in Imphal West district, was arrested from his residence. He was reportedly engaged in extortion and illegal settlements of criminal cases. In a separate operation on Aug 4, two suspected arms smugglers were nabbed from different parts of Imphal East. Ningombam Abung Meitei (50) of Huidrom Awang Leikai was arrested from Pourabi Hidumbi, while Ningthoujam Konungjao Meetei (33) of Keibi Khulen Makha Leikai was picked up from his residence. Nepalese woman looking for job in city raped
Patna: An incident rape of a 27-year-old Nepalese woman in the state capital came to light after she filed a written complaint at the Airport police station on Wednesday. She alleged that she reached Patna in search of a job from Siliguri (West Bengal) by a train two days back and was lured by a private bus driver who raped her for two days. In her complaint, the woman alleged, "I reached Patna Junction from Siliguri by a train on Aug 3. After leaving the station, I was sitting outside when a driver approached me and gained my trust. I told him that I came to India in search of a job. The driver said he would help me find one. After that, he took me on a bus to his place and raped me for two days." According to the woman, the accused's name is Kartikeya. He took her by bus near BSAP-1 (Bihar Special Armed Police) building and also near Gandhi Maidan area. She alleged that the accused also snatched Rs 13,000 (Indian currency) and Rs 2,000 (Nepali notes) from her. The first person to learn about the incident was a member of Gorkha Samaj Sewa Service Samiti. He said that around 3pm on Tuesday, he received a call from a person near Gandhi Maidan informing him that a Nepali woman was crying. He arrived at the place with his wife and took the woman to his home. During questioning, the girl shared her story, after which a complaint was filed at the Airport police station on Wednesday. According to police sources, the Nepali woman, under pressure from her stepmother and two stepbrothers to earn money, left her country in search of work. The accused is suspected to be the driver of a private bus hired to transport BSAP personnel to Gandhi Maidan for Independence Day parade rehearsal. Sachivalaya SDPO-1 Anu Kumari said, "The traumatised Nepalese woman is currently not in a condition to provide details about the incident. Her medical examination has been conducted and the report is awaited. Further investigation is going on." The SDPO-1 further added that a Nepali organisation has been informed about the incident. After the legal process is completed, the girl will be sent back to Nepal. Until then, the organisation will take her care.

Manjha Sellers Keep It Going Despite Ban
New Delhi: Investigations into recent seizures of Chinese manjha revealed a worrying surge in the covert sale of this banned and dangerous kite string across various markets in the city, especially as Independence Day approached—a time when kite flying reaches a high. Despite the ban, sellers found new ways every year to evade law enforcement authorities while continuing the trade. During the recent crackdowns, police found that Chinese manjha was being sold discreetly using code words and through advance bookings. The string was delivered to buyers at pre-decided locations to avoid detection. According to police sources, sellers communicated with potential buyers through encrypted messaging apps or platforms like WhatsApp. In some cases, specific code names were used to refer to Chinese manjha in online chats. So far, Delhi Police has seized over 1,500 reels of this lethal thread. "After crackdowns begin every year, sellers often shift operations online. They use code words and encrypted apps to communicate. Buyers are often asked to pay extra for delivery. One of the crackdowns occurred in June when a team led by inspector Sunil Kumar Kalkhande, under the supervision of DCP (crime) Vikram Singh, found 1,170 reels of Chinese manjha from Kamla Market and Jeevan Park in Uttam Nagar. Two persons were arrested. In separate operations, 325 reels were seized from northeast Delhi's Nand Nagri and 31 from Gokalpuri. In June, a youth on a scooter was killed in north Delhi when his throat was slit by a Chinese manjha on Rani Jhansi Road in north Delhi's Bara Hindu Rao. The deceased was identified as 22-year-old Yash Goswami, a spare parts business owner. In another incident, a two-wheeler rider was injured after his face came in contact with a kite string on the Shastri Park flyover in east Delhi.
