Speaking to
Chelsea
Flower Show designer Joe Carey, who co-designs with his wife, Laura at Carey Garden Design Studio shared five of the best climbing plants to add to your space.
Common Honeysuckle
A great choice if you want something relatively low-maintenance that can also survive the grey skies of a British summer?
The gardening whizz recommended honeysuckle for the best of both worlds.
He explained: "As a UK native, common honeysuckle is really well suited to UK gardens, and we love it; it has such a wonderful scent."

Climbing Hydrangeas
For more shady gardens, climbing hydrangeas are a great pick.
According to Joe, they're both gorgeous during the summer months when they flower, but the seed heads also look great in autumn.
Although it might not be the best choice for chalky soil, it will thrive in a spot with plenty of space to grow, he added.
Clematis
Perfect for sunny spots which are usually overbearing for plants, varieties of clematis can weather it all.

He added that his favourites include clematis '

, - but of course there are plenty of options out there.
Not only that, but some clematis, like the 'Sugar Sweet' hybrids and 'montana' types, can start blooming as early as March and continue into November, meaning you can enjoy them much longer than other blooms.
Kids will have hours of fun in the garden with The Range's bargain buy - it also lights up, plays music & is on sale
Climbing roses
On the hunt for something more traditional, look no further.
Joe said his personal favourites are the Rosa 'Wedding Day' type: "I prefer the single flowers because they look more like our native roses and bees can access the pollen more easily."

However, for larger spaces, a 'rambling' variety might be the best pick.
Star Jasmine
And if you want some more greenery in your garden, Star Jasmine could be just what you're looking for.
Not only does it have
evergreen
foliage, but when it does bloom the scent is stunning too, the pro explained.
Simply pop them in a sunny spot and they'll grow fast and thrive.

Forget your horoscope, birth flowers are the latest astrological craze – how to find yours and what it says about you
WE'VE all faced that inevitable question when meeting someone new - 'what's your star sign?' However, you should expect to be hit with a new astrological related small talk as zodiac fans discover their birth flowers. 13 Birth flowers are related to your star sign and can you understand yourself better Credit: Stone - Getty Unlike birth stones, birth flowers align with your zodiac sign rather than the month you are born and can be used to help understand your star sign. Initially, zodiac signs were used to determine the time of year to predict any seasonal changes, yet over time, these symbols turned into astrological beliefs, associating specific characteristics and influences with the different signs depending on the month we were born. The flower experts at Aries (21 March – 19 April): Honeysuckle 13 Energetic, bold, and a natural born leader, the Aries zodiac flower is symbolised by the honeysuckle. Read Moew on Horoscopes Representing vitality and the fresh energy of spring, it stands for the unstoppable drive and enthusiasm of an Aries. For an Aries born in March, daffodils are the main March birth flower, with jonquils also gifted to March babies. Tying into the energy of spring, daffodils are known for their cheerful and optimistic tendencies. When it comes to a new month of April, daisies are known as the April birth flower, representing a sweet side to those born in the month, and a perfect addition alongside any honeysuckle bouquets. Taurus (20 April – 20 May): Lily 13 Taureans are known for their love of beauty, comfort, and a grounded lifestyle, matching the Taurus zodiac flower with the lily. Most read in Fabulous Lilies are often associated with peace and purity, and reflects a Taurus's appreciation for life's finer things and their serene, loyal nature—embodying both strength and softness, just as the flower does. If you're looking for a May birth flower to add into your spread of lilies, you can add some hawthorns—adding to the delicate and sweet nature of any Taurus bouquets. Exploring the Dark Side of the Zodiac: Worst Traits of Each Star Sign Gemini (21 May – 20 June): Lily of The Valley 13 Lively, curious, and full of charm, Geminis are always on the go, exploring new ideas and meeting new people, and the lily of the valley is a delicate flower, making this the perfect Gemini zodiac flower. Most well known for symbolising happiness and renewal, the lily of the valley mirrors the sign's youthful energy, and ability to bring joy wherever they go. Lily of the valley is also known as a May birth flower, lining up perfectly for any May born Geminis. For Geminis born in June, roses and honeysuckles can also be gifted as for the perfect June birth flower bouquet. One of the most popular flowers, roses symbolise romance and love, but they come in a variety of flowers for different meanings. Cancer (21 June – 22 July): White Rose 13 Emotional, nurturing, and deeply intuitive, the Cancer zodiac flower is the white rose. Symbolising purity, innocence, and deep emotional connections, this white rose reflects Cancer's heartfelt nature and their natural instinct to protect the ones they love. Just as roses are a key flower for those born in June, larkspurs (also known as delphiniums) are the primary July birth flower for Cancers born in this month. Symbolising an open heart, joy and warmth, these blooms come in a variety of colours to pair with Cancer's white roses. Leo (23 July – 22 August): Sunflower 13 Leos are known for their confidence, charisma, and flair, and what better floral match for the Leo zodiac flower than the sunflower? Always turning toward the sun, the sunflower reflects a Leo's natural optimism, warmth, and need to be in the spotlight, radiating joy, just like those born under this sign. For an August birth flower, Gladiolus flowers are the primary flowers to add to your sunflower bouquet. With a historical tie to gladiators, these flowers symbolise strength, victory and success—perfect for those lion star signs. Virgo (23 August – 22 September): Chrysanthemum 13 Practical, detail-oriented, and quietly strong, those born under this sign have the Virgo zodiac flower of the chrysanthemum. Traditionally associated with loyalty and longevity, chrysanthemums symbolise a Virgo's dependable nature, and their pursuit of perfection in everything they do. If you're looking for your September birth flower, search no longer! September's primary birth flower is an aster, with morning glories coming in second. Asters are perfect to brighten up any autumn bouquets for Virgos, and symbolise love, wisdom and faith. Libra (23 September – 22 October): Rose 13 What is your star sign's element? In astrology, the elements — Air, Water, Earth, and Fire signs — serve as foundational principles that influence the characteristics and behaviours associated with the twelve star signs. Earth signs: Taurus, Virgo, and Capricorn The Earth signs are grounded in the tangible and practical aspects of life, embodying the stable and nurturing qualities of their element. These signs are known for their pragmatism, reliability, and strong connection to the physical world, often excelling in matters that require patience and persistence. Air Signs: Gemini, Libra, and Aquarius The Air signs are characterised by their intellectual, communicative, and social nature. This reflects the light and dynamic essence of their elemental influence. Overall, these signs tend to excel in the realms of ideas, relationships, and innovation, bringing a breath of fresh air to their interactions and thought processes. Water Signs: Cancer, Scorpio, and Pisces The Water element signs are profoundly impacted by their element. With each astrological sign, water gives way to emotional depth, strong intuition, and a capacity for deep empathy and connection. Fire Signs: Aries, Leo, and Sagittarius Fuelled by the element of Fire, these fire signs in astrology are known for their passion, boldness, energy, enthusiasm, courage, and a zest for life that often leads them to adventurous and creative endeavours. Ruled by Venus, Libras are lovers of beauty, balance, and romance, making the classic bunch of roses their ideal floral counterpart as the Libra zodiac flower. And there are different meanings of flower colours, especially for a Libra, whether pink for grace or red for passion, the rose reflects a Libra's charming disposition, and their deep desire for harmony and peace. Marigolds are the main October birth flower for those born in the month, followed by cosmos. Available in orange, yellow, and red, marigolds can pair perfectly with traditional roses. Scorpio (23 October – 21 November): Geranium 13 Mysterious, intense, and fiercely loyal, the Scorpio zodiac flower is the geranium. Symbolising determination and hidden depths, geraniums represent the Scorpio spirit of being complex, passionate, and always more than meets the eye. While marigolds are perfect for Scorpios born in October, those born in November can add chrysanthemums to their birthday bouquets. The November birth flower is known for its vibrant colours and is said to bring joy and good luck to a home! Sagittarius (22 November – 21 December): Carnation 13 Adventurous and full of zest for life, the Sagittarius zodiac flower is the carnation. These vibrant blooms symbolise fascination and distinction, which are traits that match a Sagittarius's love for exploring new ideas and new places with an optimistic and freedom-loving personality. Reflecting new beginnings and rebirth, narcissus is the main December birth flower. However, if you're looking to add more a Christmas theme to a Sagittarius bouquet, you can opt for December's second birth flower—the festive classic, holly. Capricorn (22 December – 19 January): Pansy 13 Capricorns are ambitious, disciplined, and wise beyond their years, and the capricorn zodiac flower is the pansy. The pansy, often linked to thoughtfulness and remembrance, reflects a Capricorn's deep intellect and classic nature, and is a quiet yet powerful flower—just like those born under this sign. Alongside the understated pansy, you can add carnations, the January birth flower, to the bouquet for any special Capricorns in your life. With a unique, ruffled shape, carnations are known to symbolise distinction, making them a great stand out for any birthday flowers. Aquarius (20 January – 18 February): Orchid 13 Innovative, independent, and maybe unconventional at times, the Aquarius zodiac flower comes to life in the form of an orchid. Both exotic and unique, the orchid symbolises refinement and mystery, mirroring an Aquarius's futuristic thinking and progressive spirit, whilst representing strength and the sign's inner resilience. For any January born Aquarius', you can add the stand out carnations bouquets. Meanwhile, continuing with the purple theme, the February birth flower is a violet. A flower that returns year after year, violets symbolise Aquarius's loyalty, faithfulness and reliable nature. Pisces (19 February – 20 March): Water Lily 13 Dreamy, compassionate, and artistic, the Pisces zodiac flower is the water lily. Often found floating on calm, still waters, the water lily reflects a Pisces's emotional depth and spiritual nature, as well as peace, intuition, and a deep connection to the unseen. As mentioned above, daffodils are the main March birth flower, adding a pop of joyful yellow to any pisces bouquets.
