Texans CB Kamari Lassiter impressing in early stages of OTAs
Lassiter, the Houston Texans' second-year No. 2 cornerback, set the tone as the No. 42 pick in last year's draft, totaling 11 pass breakups and three interceptions. He arguably was the best rookie corner in the league while helping Houston produce a top 10 secondary and a second consecutive AFC South division title.

Offseason team activities might be overblown in the public eye, but Lassiter is living up to expecations once more. Last year, he caught everyone's attention winning his one-on-one battles against All-Pro Stefon Diggs.
He did the same thing during team drills while guarding Pro Bowler Nico Collins during seven-on-seven drills. He broke up a pair of passes with Davis Mills under center in stride with the two-time 1,000-yard receiver. Lassiter also broke a pass intended for John Metchie III when lined up inside.
Everyone, including teammates, is paying close attention to his growth, along with teammate and defensive back Calen Bullock.
'It is fun watching them. They love football, they are passionate about it," Will Anderson said following practice. "You hear Kamari slapping his helmet. You hear Calen running to him. That is what you need on a defense like this. We play an attack style defense, and we have two attackers in the backend that don't mind getting their hands dirty.'

Lassiter is only 20 percent of the secondary that could lead the NFL in takeaways this fall. Stingley, who recently became the highest-paid defensive back after his dominant season, will line up on the opposing side. Bullock will have a new running mate after Houston traded former first-round pick Kenyon Green to Philadelphia in exchange for do-it-all safety C.J. Gardner-Johnson. The Texans also have back a fully healthy Jalen Pitre, who arguably was the most improved player last season, will command respect in the nickel position.
If Lassiter's success in OTAs can carry over to Week 1's matchup against the Los Angeles Rams, Houston could be more than just a good front seven and a promising roster that continues to win division titles.

Jets coach can't contain enthusiasm after Jermaine Johnson, Quinnen Williams return from injury: ‘Woah!'
It's safe to say that Aaron Glenn was stoked about Jermaine Johnson and Quinnen Williams returning to New York Jets practice on Tuesday. The Jets coach couldn't contain his enthusiasm when asked what it's like to have the two studs back on the defensive line. 'All I can say is, 'Woah!'' Glenn exclaimed excitedly, with his eyes wide, eyebrows arched, and a grin creeping across his face. 'Eleven [Johnson] is out there, and he's rushing the passer, and he runs right by me, and it's like just wind, 'Woosh!' goes right by me. And then you see 95 [Williams]. It felt good. I'll just say that. It felt really good.' It was Johnson's first contact since he sustained a ruptured Achilles in Week 2 last season against the Tennessee Titans. The 26-year-old was activated off the PUP list last week but didn't take part in team drills until Tuesday. He was flying off the edge against the Jets offense, and would've likely had two sacks if the quarterback was allowed to be hit. Johnson was one of three first-round picks by the Jets in the 2022 NFL Draft, behind corner Sauce Gardner and wide receiver Garrett Wilson. He broke out in 2023 after a quiet rookie season. Johnson started all 17 games, recorded 7.5 sacks and 55 tackles, and had a 37-yard pick six. He was selected to the Pro Bowl at the end of that season. A powerful athlete, Johnson will complement 2023 first-round pick Will McDonald IV in an explosive 1-2 punch coming off the edge this season. McDonald had his own breakout season a year ago, when he took on a bigger role in Johnson's absence and led the Jets with 10.5 sacks. Glenn, in his first season as Jets coach, is amped about seeing Johnson and McDonald finally on the field together. 'Will has a fastball that's elite in this league. Jermaine is a bigger body that's a true power player, but he does have speed also, & when you have that dynamic, you can have one guy from one side rush with power, & when he's running right through the tackle, now the quarterback has to have an escape lane, you have a guy that has speed that can come from the backside & make a play,' Glenn explained. 'You see that from a lot of teams that have that dynamic. You have one guy with power & the other guy with speed, that makes a hell of a rush.' The three-time Pro Bowl lineman, who was First Team All-Pro at DT in 2022, helps complete a dynamic three-fourths on the defensive front with Johnson and McDonald. Williams has 39 sacks in six NFL seasons, including six last year and a career-high 12 in 2022. It was exciting to see those three all play together for the first time in more than a year, but don't expect to see that happen when the Jets host the Philadelphia Eagles in their preseason finale Friday at MetLife Stadium. Though Glenn was coy about who's in and who's out of the lineup against the Eagles, he did say, 'Some starters won't play in this game. I won't get into the who's or whatnot but a good amount of starters won't play.' It's difficult to imagine Johnson or Williams suiting up coming off injury and just weeks away from the regular season opener Sept. 7 against the Aaron Rodgers and the Pittsburgh Steelers. It'd make no sense for the Jets to take such a risk with such important players. Speaking of important players and injury, Gardner also returned to practice Tuesday. He missed the 31-12 preseason loss to the New York Giants on Saturday because of a calf issue. But he was a full participant Tuesday, though there was a mild scare. Gardner was limping after a pass in the end zone and it appeared that perhaps he reaggravated the calf injury. But Glenn quelled those fears. 'I think he just got kicked in the leg. I think he's fine.' That helped put a bow on a happy day for the Jets head coach. 5 Trey Hendrickson Trades Cincinnati Bengals Should Accept
Five months after allowing their All-Pro pass-rusher to find a new team, the Cincinnati Bengals are once again reconsidering Trey Hendrickson trades. Hendrickson wants a new contract, but after leading the NFL with 17.5 sacks and being named a first-team All-Pro, he's earned one. Set to have an $18.6 million cap hit, Hendrickson's current salary ($15.8 million) comes nowhere close to the top of the market, like Myles Garrett, who leads all defenders with an annual average value of $40 million. The Bengals are reportedly seeking a first-round pick, plus a young defensive player in exchange for Hendrickson. But that player does not have to be a pass-rusher to replace Hendrickson in the lineup. So, unless they're willing to strike a deal, let's look at a few potential offers the Bengals should be willing to accept for Hendrickson right now. The Bengals would likely prefer a first-round selection, New England likely won't be willing to pay that price knowing they're coming off having a top-five pick. Still, getting two immediate contributors on defense, plus a future pick that could land in the top 50, is better than having a disgruntled player in the locker room. It heps that their new defensive coordinator Lou Anarumo is who coached the Bengals' defense for all four of Hendrickson's Pro Bowl seasons. This offer could entice the Bengals because it offers what could be a top 50 pick, plus a 25-year-old 6-foot-3 cornerback in Brents, a second-round pick from 2023. Ebukam missed all of 2024 with a torn Achilles, but recorded 9.5 sacks in 2023, possibly helping replace some of Hendrickson's production. Yet, after a historically bad defense in 2024, the Panthers can ensure their group takes a leap forward by adding a proven pass-rusher who led the league in sacks. Meanwhile, the Bengals add two more picks to their '26 class plus a 27-year-old pass-rusher in Wonnum. The former fourth-round pick was limited to just eight games due to injury last season, but he still recorded four sacks. His previous career-high (8 sacks) came in 2023 (and 2021) with the Minnesota Vikings, earning him a starting job in Carolina, but they'd happily replace him with an All-Pro like Hendrickson. Still, Wonnum would be a worthy situational rusher in Cincinnati while still offering starting potential. But what about the defense? While he had limited participation last year, Christian Wilkins won't be saving them. So how about trading for an All-Pro pass-rusher who, like Maxx Crosby, can command double teams? Whether the Bengals prefer Koonce or 2023 No. 7 overall pick Tyree Wilson is up to Cincinnati's front office, but we felt like the 27-year-old veteran was a better fit. While he missed all of 2024 with a torn ACL, the 6-foot-3, 243-pound pass-rusher recorded eight sacks in 2023. If not as a starter, Koonce would at the very least be a top situational sack master in Cincinnati and there's still enough potential in the former third-round pick to enjoy an even bigger breakout year. They were already a playoff team last season and aside from cutting bait with Jaire Alexander and Christian Watson's injury, there's no reason to believe this young team is suddenly set for regression. While this trade may offer less immediate upside, getting a first-round pick in return is incredibly strong value, even for a player of Hendrickson's caliber. Plus Enagbare is no slouch. The 25-year-old 6-foot-4, 258-pound outside linebacker is coming off a 4.5 sack season and could be primed for a breakout year.
