Jacob's Pillow cancels rest of 2025 dance festival after employee dies in workplace accident
The center in Becket had said performances would resume this week, but announced a change of plans Tuesday night.
"The Jacob's Pillow Board of Trustees and institutional leadership has decided that Festival 2025 will not continue," the center said in a statement. "We have come to this difficult decision following the tragic accident on our campus on August 1."
Sirico, a 40-year-old from Rochester, New York, was moving staging platforms on a dolly with a summer intern when the accident happened. According to the Berkshire County District Attorney's office, the pair lost control of the dolly as they tried to move it downhill, and it began to roll. Sirico tripped and fell while trying to regain control of the dolly and was run over, authorities said.
The platforms fell off the dolly and landed on Sirico. Bystanders attempted life-saving measures, but Sirico did not survive.
The district attorney's office said no charges would be filed because an investigation "determined that the events leading to the employee's death were related to a work-place accident."
The nine-week summer festival that features some of the best dancers from around the world was set to run until Aug. 24.
Last month during the festival, Jacob's Pillow reopened the rebuilt Doris Duke Theatre, which was destroyed in a fire in 2020.
Ticket holders affected by the cancellations will receive refunds.

The Ventura County Sheriff's Department is investigating the deaths of a man and woman who were found in a car near Point Mugu State Park on Wednesday evening. Gina Carano settles legal dispute with Lucasfilm and Disney
Gina Carano has reached a legal settlement over her firing from The Mandalorian. The 43-year-old actress was fired from the hit TV series back in 2021, following a series of controversial posts on social media, but Lucasfilm and the Walt Disney Company have now confirmed that they've reached a settlement agreement with Gina. In a statement given to Variety, a spokesperson said: "The Walt Disney Company and Lucasfilm are pleased to announce that we have reached an agreement with Gina Carano to resolve the issues in her pending lawsuit against the companies. "Ms. Carano was always well respected by her directors, co-stars, and staff, and she worked hard to perfect her craft while treating her colleagues with kindness and respect. With this lawsuit concluded, we look forward to identifying opportunities to work together with Ms. Carano in the near future." Gina previously hit out at Disney on social media, accusing the media giant of trying to "control" what their employees say in public. The actress wrote on X: "Disney has confirmed what has been known all along, they will fire you if you say anything they disagree with, even if they have to MISREPRESENT, MALIGN, and MISCHARACTERIZE you to do it. They are now on record letting everyone who works for them know that Disney will take any chance they get to control what you say, what you think or they will attempt to destroy your career. Glad we cleared that up. The First Amendment does not allow Disney to wantonly DISCRIMINATE, which is what they have done in my case and frankly have now admitted they did. Trump increasing federal law enforcement in DC beginning Thursday night

It comes just days after a well-known former Department of Government Efficiency staffer was assaulted in DC. 'President Trump has directed an increased presence of federal law enforcement to protect innocent citizens. Starting tonight, there will be no safe harbor for violent criminals in D.C. President Trump is committed to making our Nation's capital safer for its residents, lawmakers, and visitors from all around the world,' White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt said in a statement. A White House official confirmed to CNN that the increase in law enforcement presence will include federal officers in 'marked units, and highly visible.' The increased presence will start at midnight and begins as a 7-day effort, with the option to extend, the official added. The effort will be led by US Park Police, with participation from US Capitol Police, FBI, DC Police, Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives, and others. It 'will be focused on high-traffic tourist areas and other known hotspots,' according to the official. Despite Trump's repeated claims of increased crime in DC, 2025 crime numbers are lower than last year's, according to a preliminary year-to-date crime comparison from DC Police.
