Son explains emotional exit
Son said the main reason for leaving Spurs is that he feels he has completed his journey at the club and needs a fresh challenge elsewhere. 'It was the most difficult decision I have made in my career. I have spent 10 years at Tottenham. The main reason is I have achieved everything I can at Tottenham,' he said.
He added that he wants a new environment to push himself again and thanked the club for supporting his decision. 'I need a new environment for a fresh challenge. I'm grateful the club have respected my decision and wish Spurs well for the next season,' Son said.
'I came to north London as a kid. 23 years old, a very young age. A boy who couldn't speak English. I leave this club as a grown man. Thank you to all the Spurs fans who have given me so much love. It felt like it was my home. It was one of the toughest decisions I ever made. I think it is the right time to leave. I hope that everyone understands that and respects that,' Son said about his jouney at Spurs.

New Spurs manager Thomas Frank, who joined from Brentford, said he was sad that he won't get to work with Son for long. 'For me, personally, I would have loved to have worked with this fantastic person and player,' Frank said.
'He is a true Spurs legend in every aspect, one of the greatest players to play in the Premier League. It is never easy to find the perfect timing and me coming in from the side, it makes it a bit easier to end on a high.'
Tottenham will play Newcastle United in Seoul on Sunday, August 3, and it could be Son's final match in a Spurs shirt. Frank confirmed that Son will lead the team out as captain for the match in front of his home crowd. 'If that is the last game for Sonny, what a place to do it here in front of his home fans. It could be a beautiful ending.'

"Didn't Like What I Saw": Ricky Ponting Questions Yashasvi Jaiswal's Act During 5th Test

Former Australia captain Ricky Ponting wasn't impressed with Yashasvi Jaiswal's 'time wasting' antics towards the final moments of the opening session of the third day of the fifth Test between India and England. India captain Shubman Gill played a sublime drive to find the boundary rope, and then pushed the ball to sprint for a double. Moments after bustling for a couple of runs, Yashasvi Jaiswal started hobbling at the non-striker's end while pointing at his hamstring. The slight delay caused by Jaiswal ran the clock down and ensured that it was the final over before lunch. As he returned towards the dressing room, seemingly walking fine, the England players retorted as emotions boiled over. Words were exchanged, and fingers wagged with Ben Duckett at the centre of the verbal jabs. Gill calmed Jaiswal before the duo returned to the dressing room. Ponting expressed his frustration with Jaiswal and invoked the example of the events that unfolded at Lord's. "I didn't like what I saw there with wasting time in that last over. Especially at the back of what happened at Lord's when India complained about what the English batters did," Ponting said as quoted from Sky Sports. Former England fast-bowling mainstay Stuart Broad shared a different view from Ponting. He expressed his love for the shenanigans between the India and England players, saying, "All the drama that has enthralled us all series, the little dramas that make you smile." This wasn't the first instance of India and England players engaging in a heated verbal altercation in the gruelling five-match series. During the third Test at the 'Home of Cricket', Lord's, temperaments flared, tension simmered, and emotions ran high in the final over of Day 3. India felt England opener Zak Crawley had resorted to time-wasting theatrics after moving out of the way on the third delivery of Jasprit Bumrah's opening over. Gill expressed his discontent and yelled at Crawley from the slip cordon. On the fifth delivery, Crawley sustained a blow on the glove. He quickly removed the glove and asked the physio to have a look at it, which caused pandemonium on the field. The Indian players swarmed the English openers as Gill and Crawley engaged in a fiery verbal exchange while pointing fingers at each other. During the exchange, a couple of expletives were thrown as well. The drama continued on the final day of the fourth Test in Manchester when the draw was looming large. England captain Ben Stokes went to Ravindra Jadeja and Washington Sundar to offer his hand to pull the curtains down on the Test. Jadeja and Sundar refused, considering they were on the cusp of reaching their hard-fought centuries. A statement from Stokes was caught on the stump mic as he said, "Jaddu, do you want to get a Test 100 against Brook & Duckett?" Jadeja responded to the English skipper's comment and said, "What do you want me to do, just walk off?" Zak Crawley, who stood close to the crease, chipped in, saying: "You can, just shake your hand." Jadeja and Sundar eventually blazed past the three-digit mark and eventually shook hands to settle the Test. England's actions drew widespread criticism from fans and former cricketers.

MS Dhoni confirms CSK captain for IPL 2026, concedes major squad issues

Legendary Chennai Super Kings cricketer MS Dhoni confirmed the return of Ruturaj Gaikwad as the captain of the franchise in Indian Premier League 2026. Speaking on a private event in Chennai on Saturday, August 2, Dhoni said that CSK opener will return to the side and take over his usual Dhoni was forced to take over CSK's captaincy from Gaikwad due to the latter's injury in the IPL 2025. Gaikwad fractured his arm early in the tournament, one that went terribly for the Chennai-based at the event, Dhoni admitted to the team's issues from IPL 2025 and said that they were going to strengthen their batting order. The comment perhaps indicates that the franchise will be moving on from Rahul Tripathi and Deepak Hooda, who were woeful last season. 'We are slightly worried about our batting order. But I think our batting order is quite sorted out now. Rutu (Gaikwad) will be coming back. He got injured. But he will be coming back. So, we are quite sorted now,' said Dhoni during a private function in Chennai.'I won't say we (CSK) slacked off (in IPL 2025). But there were certain holes that we needed to plug in. A small auction is coming in December. Some loopholes are there, and we will try to plug those in,' he last competitive outing remains CSK's match against Punjab Kings at Mullanpur on April 8. The Maharashtrian had inked a deal with English county Yorkshire but withdrew from the deal citing personal reasons. However, he has been named in the West Zone squad for the Duleep Trophy, beginning later this admitted that the Super Kings have been well below-par over the last two seasons, but said it was important for the team to identify those grey areas.'Yes, the last couple of years have not been good for us. We have not been up to the mark. But what is important is for you to see the learnings. Yes, you had a bad season. But what went wrong? And that was the question for us last year also.'We were like, okay, there are some shortcomings. But first we needed to exactly figure out what were the shortcomings and then look at solutions,' he Dhoni Thanks Loyal FansDhoni profusely thanked the loyal CSK fans for their wholehearted support during the strife time, and promised to give a better account of themselves in the coming season.'I feel more often than not we have been able to figure out what exactly went wrong. In sports, you know you can have a very good time and at the same time there will be periods when you won't be performing well. In CSK, more often than not, we are on the higher we do talk about the processes. But at the same time we do want the result to come to our side. Last year it (result) wasn't there. But looking ahead, we will try to sort out most of the things and we will hopefully be at our best,' he 44-year-old then underlined the strong relationship he has fostered over the years with Chennai and the IPL team based in the city.'It's a very long relationship that we have had and it started much before the start of IPL... 2005 was the time when I made my Test debut which happened to be in Chennai. So, it started from that point of time. And yes, CSK helped in a big way because all of a sudden I'm spending 45-50 days here."'So, I feel the relationship over the years has grown. It helped me improve as a person. It helped me improve as a cricketer. So, CSK just happened. I think it's good for Chennai. So, today it's good for me also. Nowadays when we go and say CSK, it's not a brand only in India, but when we go to Australia, South Africa, or any of the cricket playing nations,' he noted.- EndsMust Watch
