Yahoo27-03-2025

Flowers are blooming across the state in a bright rainbow of colors, and there are plenty of opportunities to catch them in their beauty.
From tulips to cherry blossoms, and azaleas to daffodils, spring flowers in Oklahoma are a sight to see.
Here are several flower festivals or locations where you can experience the blooms of the season.
For its third year, the Myriad Botanical Gardens Tulip Festival is "bigger than ever."
From 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. on March 29 and 30, see the array of tulips blooming and take advantage of the photo ops. There will also be live performances, vendors, food and activities for kids.
The largest collection of cherry blossom trees in Oklahoma belongs to Tulsa's Gathering Place park, where the trees are currently in full bloom.
If you can't make it to Tulsa before they pass their peak, you can also see cherry blossom trees at Myriad Botanical Gardens and Will Rogers Gardens in Oklahoma City.
Throughout the month of April, visit Honor Heights Park in Muskogee, Oklahoma, for the iconic Azalea Festival which draws thousands of spectators each year.
During the festival, there is free admission to the Papilion Gardens, found inside the park.
Also in eastern Oklahoma, the Tulsa Botanical Garden is hosting its annual flower festival, Tulsa Botanic BLOOMS!, which started March 20 and runs through April 27.
More than 170,450 spring flowering bulbs were planted for this year's display, including daffodils, hyacinths and tulips.
Check out the BLOOMS tracker at tulsabotanic.org.

First day of Cox Convention Center demolition marks major change to downtown OKC

Downtown dwellers and visitors will have to sharpen their navigation skills as the building formerly known as the Myriad and the Cox Convention Center goes through major demolition this week. The north wall and the pedestrian skybridge are currently scheduled for removal during the week of June 9-13, leading to lane closures on Sheridan Avenue. The demolition process is expected to last through the rest of the year. There haven't been any delays because the work has been all interior so far, said Kristen Torkelson, arena communications liaison. The work is being done as the city prepares to present renderings for the new NBA arena that will be built in the footprint of the old convention center. The renderings are expected to be shown during Mayor David Holt's State of the City address on June 16, Torkelson said. The Century Center parking garage can be accessed by the southbound lane on N. Broadway Avenue, and one westbound lane on Sheridan Avenue is open. People staying at the Wyndham Grand Hotel can access it by making a U-turn at the end of N. Broadway Avenue. The OKC Streetcar is temporarily shut down, but Embark will operate a dedicated shuttle bus along a modified downtown loop. Riders should allow for extra travel time as real-time tracking won't be available. The city said in a news release most of the sidewalk around the center remains open, with some portions closed, but accessible ramps are open at all four corners. More: Cox Convention Center demolition to start by April; memories to be preserved As the process keeps going, Midwest Wrecking, the demolition company contracted by the city, is working to remove debris from inside the building and tearing down steel from the walls to recycle it, Torkelson said. After the north wall and the sky bridge is down, work will start on dismantling the east and west walls and then work toward the center of the building. OKANA's outdoor waterpark is now open to the public: Things to do, how to buy a day pass

It's been three months since Oklahoma City's newest attraction opened its doors, and another portion is ready to debut to the public. The outdoor portion of the OKANA Resort and Indoor Waterpark, known as OKANA Beach, is opening to day-pass visitors Saturday, May 24. The outdoor waterpark has been open to resort guests since May 17. 'The community response has been incredible since we opened our doors,' said Ken Leone, managing director of OKANA. 'We're seeing families drive in from across the region because there truly isn't anything like OKANA in Oklahoma or the surrounding states … The enthusiasm from locals has been particularly rewarding, as they're seeing their hometown become a premier tourist destination." From a white sand beach to water slides, an adults-only tanning pool to an inflatable obstacle course, there's something for everyone at OKANA Beach. Here's everything you need to know about how to visit and what to expect. OKANA Beach, the outdoor waterpark featured at OKANA, opens to day-pass holders on Saturday, May 24. The Memorial Day Weekend Bash will be complete with a live DJ, mermaids, giant fan dancers, stilt walkers, face painters, balloon artists, jugglers, hula hoop performers and a drone show to end the night. It will also kick off Saturdays at the Lagoon, a series of events every Saturday from June to August featuring rotating themes, live music, interactive games and curated culinary offerings. The waterpark will remain open through Labor Day. There are a range of ways to keep the entire family occupied at this outdoor waterpark, including a white sand beach, 36 private cabanas and more: The Drop-off: Two water slides twist and turn before dropping off into a deep water pool. Bounce Bay: Jump, climb and splash through this overwater obstacle course. Summit Splash: Get the thrill of a cliff dive by plunging from a platform into the water below. The Lagoon: Enter the fourth-largest pool in the nation from the white sand beach. Zip & Dip: Glide across a zipline before jumping into the water. Cabana Cove: A shallow, adults-only tanning pool exclusively for those 21 and over. Hungry and thirsty from all the fun? Sam's Club to remodel stores in Oklahoma, US as part of 'register-free' move: What to know

Sam's Club is remodeling each of its 600 locations, including all 13 stores in Oklahoma, with a focus on both physical and digital expansions. CEO Chris Nicholas said during Walmart Inc.'s 2025 Investment Community Meeting on April 9 that the company is emphasizing a strategy based on improving membership numbers and expanding physical and digital capabilities. 'This is one of the fastest, most scalable transformations happening in retail today,' said Nicholas in a news release on April 11. 'We're investing with intention — in our fleet, our associates and the member experience — to become the world's best club retailer.' Renovations are set to begin soon, but there is no information available on whether the stores will need to be closed during the process. Check with your local Sam's Club to see if your store will close during renovations. Here's what remodels will do to Oklahoma's 13 locations. The remodeled Sam's Club stores will follow the model of a store that reopened in Grapevine, Texas in late 2024 after it was damaged in an EF-1 tornado in December 2022. After "extensive renovations," the location introduced the company's transition to a "register-free shopping experience." "High-top tables near the showroom and entrance are staffed by member specialists ready to assist anyone new to Scan & Go," the company said in news release in December 2024, adding that the register-free experience was "met with enthusiasm, with the majority of members preferring the streamlined system in its first week." With the new design, customers can explore online exclusives, use Scan & Go to add items to their cart, and ship purchases directly to their doorsteps. All of Sam's Club's locations nationwide will be remodeled, which includes 13 locations in Oklahoma: 1117 W.
