scrolling and start mastering artificial intelligence tools instead. Speaking in a Thursday interview with Matthew Berman, Srinivas urged people to "spend less time doomscrolling on Instagram; spend more time using the AIs."
The CEO warned that those who fail to adapt to
AI technology
will be left behind in the
job market
. "People who really are at the frontier of using AIs are going to be way more employable than people who are not," Srinivas said. "That's guaranteed to happen."
AI adoption challenges test human adaptability limits
Srinivas acknowledged that keeping pace with rapidly evolving AI technology poses significant challenges for most people. "Human race has never been extremely fast at adapting," he said, noting that AI technology evolves every three to six months, testing "the limits in terms of how fast we can adapt."
The Perplexity chief predicted that some workers will inevitably lose their jobs due to their inability to keep up with AI advances. However, he sees entrepreneurship as the solution to potential job displacement.
Entrepreneurs must drive new job creation as AI reshinks teams
As AI reduces headcounts across industries, Srinivas believes new employment opportunities must come from entrepreneurs rather than traditional companies. "Either the other people who lose jobs end up starting companies themselves and make use of AIs, or they end up learning the AIs and contribute to new companies," he explained.
His comments align with broader industry concerns about AI's impact on employment.

Representational Image NEW DELHI: Govt is keeping a close watch on capex as private investment remains weak, some of which may be on account of the global uncertainty induced by the US President Donald Trump's tariff regime. During April-May, Centre's capital expenditure has been higher with ministries and departments spending 20% of their allocation for the year, compared with 13% in the first two months of the last fiscal year. Over the last five years, capex by the Centre has been a key policy tool to boost investment in the economy with the expectation that the multiplier effect will generate demand for inputs and create jobs and spur private investment. The private sector has, however, largely watched from the sidelines barring sectors such as cement and steel where companies are lining up investment to meet the demand created by public investment in roads & railways. There has been heightened activity in sectors such as electronics, induced by schemes such as PLI. But overall capacity utilisation is not seen at levels where companies would ramp up investment to set up new production lines. In sectors such as automobiles and energy, the shift towards greener technologies is resulting in some investments being held up, industry sources said. While acknowledging the weak private investment, govt sources said efforts are being made to understand the measures that may be needed to boost activity. Further, the sources said, some of the central projects may not have more absorptive capacity to step up capex and govt may explore newer segments of the economy to divert more public investment. These could include spaces such as urban infrastructure with the finance ministry and other wings of govt expected to hold discussions in the coming months. Given the needs of the economy and the growth expected in coming years, the focus on capex is going to remain, with private sector expected to take the baton sooner or later. For the current fiscal year, the Centre has budgeted for capex of Rs 11.4 lakh crore of which nearly half is allocated to roads and railways. From coordinated drone missions (or drone swarming) and real-time battlefield monitoring to combat simulations for troop training, information warfare, and data-backed decision-making — the Indian Army is learnt to have drawn up a detailed roadmap identifying key areas where it plans to deploy Artificial Intelligence (AI), Machine Learning (ML), and Big Data Analytics by 2026–27. According to sources, one of the immediate priorities is to improve battlefield awareness using AI tools that can process large volumes of information quickly. These include text summarisers built on Large Language Models (LLMs) to scan and condense long reports, AI-powered chatbots, voice-to-text systems, facial recognition, and tools that can detect unusual patterns or threats. AI will also be used to analyse feeds from drones, satellites, aircraft and ground sensors, and fuse this data in real time to support faster, more informed decision-making. Although the use of AI has been discussed by the Army in the past, it is now being fast-tracked, in the wake of lessons learnt from Operation Sindoor — the Army's cross-border operation in May targeting terror infrastructure in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir. As part of this push, an AI task force under the Directorate General of Information Systems (DGIS), with representatives from other Army directorates, will soon be set up to oversee the implementation of niche technologies across the force. This will include areas such as training and capacity building, data sharing, maintenance and support, integration, promoting research and development, and incorporating these technologies into procurement processes. Sources said the roadmap — which sets specific tactical, operational and strategic goals to be met by 2026–27 — includes deploying AI across a wide range of functions, including decision support systems that can generate counter-intelligence, enhance surveillance, manage logistics and supply chains, analyse Open Source Intelligence (OSINT) and social media, map adversary capabilities, and run wargaming simulations. These technologies will also be used for better positioning and targeting of equipment, predictive maintenance, and AI-based navigation in environments where GPS access is denied. Decision support systems will further assist in operational planning and threat detection. To support long-term integration, AI features will be embedded in the General Staff Qualitative Requirements — the technical specifications for all new equipment being procured. The Army also plans to explore retrofitting select AI capabilities into legacy equipment, sources said. An AI lab is being set up at DGIS to develop and test models, which will also be integrated with AI applications being developed by the Navy and the Air Force. Additionally, the Army is pushing for greater collaboration with industry and academia to advance research in this space.

1 2 3 Nagpur: With the first phase of the Rs197 crore Integrated Intelligent Traffic Management System (IITMS) project underway, the Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC), through implementing agency Keltron, has now begun deploying AI-powered speed radar systems on the city's major roads. This comes after Keltron completed integration of IITMS at 10 of the 171 identified traffic junctions in the city. The pilot installation of the speed radar system was completed on the busy Omkar Nagar Square–Manewada Square stretch. Equipped with radar sensors, ANPR (automatic number plate recognition) cameras, and high-intensity strobe flash units, the system is capable of detecting over speeding vehicles in real-time, capturing licence plates, and instantly transmitting data to the city's traffic control command centre. "The radar system was successfully calibrated and integrated. Once a vehicle exceeds the speed limit, the system triggers the camera to capture high-resolution images of the number plate, even at night," said a senior Keltron official. At some junctions or routes, multiple radar units will be installed to cover both sides of the carriageway. In parallel, Keltron has also initiated the conversion of 50 traffic intersections under IITMS. This includes the installation of smart traffic signals, vehicle actuated systems, surveillance cameras, and real-time traffic data integration at each junction. These upgrades are part of the wider plan to cover all 171 junctions with intelligent systems. Each radar and junction system is connected to the NMC's centralised traffic control room, allowing real-time monitoring, data collection, and automated violation alerts. Senior civic officials, including the municipal commissioner, are likely to inspect the radar installation site soon. Keltron's technical teams are continuously monitoring the functioning of systems on the ground. The IITMS project is a critical part of Nagpur's Smart City initiative and is expected to transform how traffic is monitored, enforced, and managed in the city.
