BRICS, Diesel, Urea…India and China come together to teach Trump a lesson amid tariff war, PM Modi now plans to..., Gautam Adani also to...

New Delhi: India and China appear to be coming closer amid US President Donald Trump's tariff war. According to the reports, India has exported diesel to Xi Jinping's China, while China, on the other hand, has softened its stance and eased restrictions on urea exports to India. In addition to this, the direct flights between India and China likely to begin soon. To recall, the Modi government had suspended direct flights to China since the COVID-19 outbreak. Moreover, Prime Minister Narendra Modi is scheduled to visit China this year to attend the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) summit. Reports suggest that India is also set to assume the BRICS chairmanship soon, raising the possibility that Chinese President Xi Jinping may visit India. It is believed that BRICS nations, including India, China, Russia, and Brazil, could strengthen cooperation to rein in Donald Trump. India-US Ties: Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi was among the first few leaders who met US President Donald Trump after he returned to the White House. However, despite all the bonhomie, the relationship between the nations witnessed a new low after Donald Trump imposed a massive 50 percent tariff on India and overtures to the Pakistani Army Chief Asim Munir. Meanwhile, after the Galwan clash in 2020, economic ties between India and BRICS member China now appear to be getting back on track. India has announced that it will grant tourist visas to Chinese citizens. What Chinese Experts Said About India–China Friendship Speaking to Bloomberg, Henry Wang, president of a Chinese think tank, said that relations between India and China are now 'on the rise.' Henry Wang also said that as leaders of the Global South, the two countries need to engage in dialogue with each other. Wang pointed out that China, too, is a prime target of Trump's tariff war. China has also indicated its willingness to improve relations with India. China has approved the export of urea to India, the world's largest fertilizer importer. Adani is looking to form a joint venture with China's BYD to manufacture batteries on a large scale within India. Prime Minister Modi may meet the Chinese President on August 31 during the SCO meeting. China is India's second-largest trading partner after the United States. India has a significant need for Chinese technology and raw materials to boost its manufacturing sector. Analysts say that while there is a visible warming in India–China ties, full trust between the two will not be established overnight.

Elon Musk vs Sam Altman: Tesla chief to face OpenAI's harassment and ‘Sham Bid' allegations in spring 2026 trial

The long-running rift between Elon Musk and OpenAI is set to play out in court after a US judge refused to dismiss allegations that the Tesla chief waged a sustained campaign to damage the artificial intelligence company he helped to create. On Tuesday, District Judge Yvonne Gonzalez Rogers ruled that OpenAI's claims, which include accusations of a 'years-long harassment campaign' through public statements, social media posts, legal filings, and an alleged 'sham bid' for the company's assets, were strong enough to proceed to trial. Musk co-founded OpenAI in 2015 but parted ways before the launch of its widely used chatbot, ChatGPT. The relationship soured further when Musk sued OpenAI and chief executive Sam Altman last year, arguing that the company had abandoned its founding non-profit mission in favour of profit-making. In response, OpenAI filed a countersuit in April, accusing the Tesla CEO of fraudulent business practices under California law, claiming his actions were designed to damage the firm's reputation and operations. Musk had sought to have these counterclaims dismissed or delayed, but the court sided with OpenAI, clearing the way for the case to proceed. A jury trial has been scheduled for spring 2026, setting the stage for a high-profile legal battle over the future of one of the world's most influential AI companies. In separate news, Sam Altman has pushed back against Elon Musk's accusation that Apple is giving preferential treatment to ChatGPT on its App Store, preventing rival applications from reaching the top of the rankings. In a post on X, Altman criticised Musk, suggesting the Tesla boss has manipulated his own social media platform to serve his business interests while undermining competitors. 'This is a remarkable claim given what I have heard alleged that Elon does to manipulate X to benefit himself and his own companies and harm his competitors and people he doesn't like,' Altman wrote. He added that he would welcome further investigation into the matter: 'I hope there's an opportunity for counter-discovery, many of us would be interested to know what's really been going on. As for OpenAI, we'll stay focused on building great products.' (With inputs from Reuters)
