A loss in the quarter-final on night 15 last Thursday against to
The Dutchman must win night 16 in the Premier League and hope Aspinall loses in the quarter-final if he is to seal an unlikely play-offs place.
Van Gerwen has also not won a PDC ranked televised event since November 2022 - at the Players Championship Finals in Minehead.
The 36-year-old had won at least one ranked TV event each year from 2012 to 2022 with the exception of 2021.

So the lack of success in recent years has caused concern for former player Colin Lloyd.
Lloyd, 51, told
"He says he is. He says there's plenty left it in him and that when he turns up, he's still the man to beat and one of the best players in the world.
"I'm sorry, but I've got to say we haven't seen Michael turn up for a while now. We've seen flashes of brilliance.

"Has it slipped into his head he has other priorities? He loves spending time with the missus and the kids going on holiday."
Lloyd, who retired in 2016, added: "Has that little bit of spark gone from Michael's game?

"He'll turn up and he's got all the good intentions of how a champion is. You don't turn up to make the numbers up, you turn up to win."
But if Lloyd thought Van Gerwen would be stepping away from the oche any time soon, he'd be sorely mistaken.
Last December at the World Championships, Van Gerwen vowed to 'be on the scene for a little bit longer'.
"If you look at my rankings this year, I'm still in the top four or five," Van Gerwen said.
"Can you imagine when I play well again? I will be really dangerous."

Djed Spence signs new long-term contract at Tottenham
Djed Spence has signed a new long-term contract at Tottenham, the PA news agency understands. Versatile full-back Spence only signed fresh terms last October until 2028, but has been rewarded for a fine breakthrough campaign at Spurs. Spence made 35 appearances in the 2024-25 campaign, after eventually being handed his full debut in December – two-and-a-half-years after he first joined the club. Spence played for Tottenham in the Super Cup (Adam Davya/PA) After Spence was deemed a 'club signing' by former Tottenham boss Antonio Conte in 22, the former Nottingham Forest defender had mixed loans at Rennes, Leeds and Genoa. Spence might have left Spurs in the summer of 2024, but instead forced his way into the plans of Ange Postecoglou and played his part in their Europa League triumph. Postecoglou's replacement Thomas Frank has quickly placed his trust in Spence and turned to him for Wednesday's Super Cup loss to Paris St Germain. The latest development of the 24-year-old's resurgence is to earn improved terms at the north London club to ensure his long-term future remains at Tottenham.

Newcastle agree fee with Aston Villa for winger Jacob Ramsey
Newcastle have agreed a fee for Aston Villa winger Jacob Ramsey. The 24-year-old is due to travel to the north east for a medical after a deal in the region of £40million was agreed, the PA news agency understands. The prospective sale of Ramsey, who has made 167 appearances at Villa Park, will represent pure profit for Villa, who are walking a UEFA financial fair play and PSR tightrope and need to sell. Ramsey came through the ranks at Aston Villa (Jacob King/PA) If the medical goes without problem and personal terms are agreed in the next 24 hours, Ramsey could be a Newcastle player by the time they visit Villa Park for Saturday lunchtime's Premier League opener. Villa boss Unai Emery is not expected to see much, if any, of the financial proceeds as the club's spending is under the close eye of UEFA after they were fined £9.5m for breaching regulations. They are keen on re-signing Paris St Germain midfielder Marco Asensio, who spent the second half of last season on loan. Ramsey's arrival at St James' Park will boost spirits after a difficult transfer window for Eddie Howe's side. They have signed Anthony Elanga and Malick Thiaw, with Aaron Ramsdale arriving on loan, but missed out on Benjamin Sesko, who chose to join Manchester United instead. The future of Alexander Isak also remains unclear following the Sweden international's desire to join Liverpool.

Keith Andrews gives Kelleher fitness update ahead of Premier League opener
Caoimhin Kelleher is a doubt for Brentford's Premier League opener against Nottingham Forest on Sunday. The Ireland goalkeeper missed last weekend's pre-season friendly draw with Borussia Monchengladbach, although the nature of his injury was not disclosed. Speaking ahead of his first Premier League game in charge of the Bees, former Ireland coach Andrews admitted that the Corkman was touch and go. 'From the ones that missed last Friday, Caoimhín and Kevin Schade are back on the grass,' Andrews said. 'Whether they'll be ready, we'll see over the next day or so and make that decision. 'But, overall, we're in a pretty good place on that front.' Andrews added that he was pleased overall with his goalkeeping options - and that he was delighted to take over shortly after the arrival of a player he was very familiar with from his time as Stephen Kenny's assistant. 'The goalkeeping situation happened before I became head coach,' he said, 'but I'm happy with who we got in for obvious reasons. Caoimhin Kelleher is a goalkeeper I rate very highly.' Kelleher joined Brentford early in the summer from Liverpool for a fee that could rise to over €20million. He played 46 times for over the last two seasons for the Anfield side, where he played back-up to Brazil netminder Alisson.
